MISSING PERSON - To ask you all to memorise his face

Jack went missing in Bristol, Hotwells area on the 2nd of March after a house party. It’s been 18 weeks and no further clues.

The police have been useless and his family are now relying on word of mouth to get Jacks story out there

I read about this one today, had never heard it before and this isn’t very far from me.
I don’t understand why some cases of missing people get lots of coverage in the news and others like this go under the radar. It’s very unfair.

AmelieTaylor · 07/07/2024 22:38

OMG. His poor family (&friends) that's a long time to be missing. How can the police not be doing more?! Surely there's more CCTV etc

It's actually quite rare for an adult with no other issues (mental health , financial difficulty etc) to be missing for such a long time, and in this sort of circumstance.

I do hope he's found soon

Bumping for further traffic, would be good for us all to share on our personal network pages.

ZoomDoomZoom · 07/07/2024 23:13

@Thefaceofboe ask meet HQ to change the title of your post so it attracts more attention. Nobody knows its about a missing person until you click on it so adding a name & missing person will help gain more attention.

TaylorSwish · 08/07/2024 10:22

Bumping so new people see this.

Honestly apart from being part of the ‘find Jack’ facebook page, I’ve barley seen it anywhere apart from a few local sites such as Bristol live. I see groups of people still searching the area and it breaks my heart

A quick search for his name shows articles in the Daily Mail, on Sky News, the BBC, the Independent, A&S Police press release/appeals, plus the Fb page and missing persons websites.

I suspect the police are not releasing full details of searches etc on purpose. It's pretty clear they have been investigating and searching, it's just not become a media circus.

Angrymum22 · 08/07/2024 10:45

It is similar to the young student who went missing in Worcester in 2019 during Freshers week. Locally it was well covered, unfortunately he was found 10days later drowned in the river.
The last sighting of him was on the footbridge crossing the river on his way back to halls.
He was a local lad who would have been familiar with the dangers surrounding the river.
His friends claimed that he hadn’t drunk much, but there is a massive problem with spiking in the local nightclubs boys and girls (DS19 was spiked last year), so he may have been spiked. The coroner ruled accidental death, possibly he responded to someone calling for help.
There does seem to be similarities to this case. Student walking home alone, spotted near water, CCTV footage.

I do hope that he is found. After DS’s spiking I struggled for a long time to sleep when he was out. I can’t imagine what his parents are going through.

US2gether · 08/07/2024 11:20

Why don't news channels and newspapers gave a section for individuals that are missing. So much celebrity rubbish.

I’m only going by what his parents have said, that the police aren’t taking it very serious. They have had to hire a cyber analysis themselves to get info from his SIMcard and also his mum found him on a cctv clip the police failed to see.

Do you know if they checked the water OP?

I don't know anything about this case which is odd as you'd think after 18 months it would be all over the place and everyone would've heard about it, but then like others have said not every missing case seems to get the same air time.

Thefaceofboe · 08/07/2024 19:57

@Falconfield the water was checked yes! Apparently the harbour authority assisted the police with any relevant info on tide times etc but it was a dead end

I have asked a friend to request a title change as I don’t know how, however I’ve thought they might not as they aren’t the OP. Do I just report the thread? If so it doesn’t give me an option to request an edit

Report your own OP and ask them to change it.

I agree that poor family, what must they be going through.

Instead of some of the 'news' they gave on the BBC talking about strictly (if you like it you'll watch it anyway), celebrity stuff etc they should have 5 minutes of a quick round up of anyone missing, pictures and last sightings etc.

That is totally unrealistic, hundreds of people go missing every week.

US2gether · 08/07/2024 11:20

Because there are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds.

Every day.

Wafflefudge · 08/07/2024 20:16

I have seen a few articles on this on Facebook over the last month or so and am not local so it is being reported a little.

Thefaceofboe · 08/07/2024 20:21

It’s definitely picking up momentum but his family have pushed and pushed for coverage. I appreciate lots of people go missing all over the world, that’s why I’m just trying to spread the word where I can. I think it’s hard too as the Jay Slater case has been huge

It’s scary we live in a world where we can just disappear without a trace

OP posts:
seagullstolemypie · 08/07/2024 20:31

I remember this happening and seeing it on the local news at the time. So sad that he is still missing.

TaylorSwish · 08/07/2024 21:14

I emailed the Daily Mail. I know it’s a trash paper but that’s not really the issue now.
I shared the email address in my earlier post.
What about if we also mass email the BBC etc?
Also @mumsnet please can you help - can you boost this thread somehow? Thank you 🙏🏻
I don’t know the lad or his family but I am a mum of a teenage boy so I want to help.

@mumsnet goes nowhere.

You need to report the OP if you want to request something like that.

But most are found with 48 hrs! The others could be shown, better than doing sod all. Or on regional news stations.

I agree - it’s quite rare to be missing 18 weeks later. Horrendous for his family

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/07/2024 12:20

Very sad. Unfortunately when someone goes missing in the early hours after a night out drinking and right next to a large body of water (and it seems he was heading to cross the Avon when last seen) it is often a matter of time rather than police investigation which makes clear what has happened.

whathasitgottodowiththepriceofoliveoil · 09/07/2024 12:25

What is it you think the police should be doing that you know they aren't doing?
