“I’m my own man”

I have a group of friends (3 + me) and every time I see them “how’s the love life?” “Are you talking to anyone?”. Firstly I never bring up being single, secondly I’ve made it clear to them I’m no where near ready to date.

Tonight friend had our group and a few random others that I kind of know and it got brought up again! So I retorted that I’m very much my own man, and I provide for myself and have a house, car and I’m doing just fine.

One friend looked a bit pissed off by this statement. Did I say something wrong?

Why were they pissed off?

It's one of those scenarios where with certain people you can't win. For them to be pissed off that you are self sufficient and don't NEED anyone else is making them feel like you're judging them for being with someone else, like they can't do it on their own. That's their feelings.
You're in no rush to date, you're independent and self sufficient and enjoying doing it. Well done you! I've been asked so many time in 6 months when will I date and I have absolutely no intention of doing so. I am happy being on my own, and making decisions without having to consider another is a relief, so much easier. Enjoy yourself.
