Dogs on tables in Cafes !!

Bride2Be25 · 06/07/2024 20:30

I was in a cafe today (part of a very well known chain) and not only saw several dogs sitting up on the chairs & sofas but one delightful family had their dog up on the table!!! Staff didn’t been bat an eyelid.

I am honestly flabbergasted that people think this is acceptable. Not only do we have to put up with dogs barking at each other in restaurants and cafes & being covered in dog hair but we now risk eating our food off tables that have had an animal walking all over.

No point to this thread really but just giving people a heads up to be extremely mindful of where you eat - I will be avoiding any food establishments that allow dogs from now on and encourage others to do the same.

@Anonym00se you are absolutely right, dog unfriendly places are very few and far between because we dog lovers are more sociable, spend more money and don’t leave grumpy reviews on Trip Advisor!

You all need to get a dog and let a little joy into your hygienic, anti-septic lives!

I only go to dog-friendly places and I have NEVER seen a dog on a table..

No thank you. After being attacked, having my entire scalp ripped off and surgically reattached as a child, I’m understandably somewhat wary of them.

Ylvamoon · 07/07/2024 19:48

@Tutorpuzzle I agree, if you can't beat us dog lovers, you clearly need to join join us with acquiring a pooch or 2....

Yes, obviously. But that’s a little more extreme than a dog drinking a cappuccino at the table…

Dog-lovers are more sociable? I am not sure about the social skills of people who can’t leave the house without an animal in tow! I love going out. Just with humans ;-)

Tutorpuzzle · 07/07/2024 20:15

@FoundNecklace oh I quite like humans too, but only if they’ve got a dog with them!

henlake7 · 07/07/2024 20:19

sounds like a very weird cafe. The only dog I've ever seen on a table is my own, at home (and he was a chihuahua....I have no idea how he managed it!).

I did once see somebody put their baby on a supermarket conveyor belt with a wet nappy.......if we are talking gross things people do with non verbal family members.

cherry2727 · 07/07/2024 20:25

I'd rather unknowingly sit in a baby's paddle of urine than a dog's! I really don't understand the obsession with dogs being in eateries ! Why? Just why?

Last time DS2 was in a room with a dog, he ended up wheezing, blue and needing an ambulance for severe breathing difficulties.

Dog free places mean my son gets to enjoy life without risking death by asthma attack. Nothing grumpy, unsociable and joyless about such places for us. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Tutorpuzzle · 07/07/2024 20:31

@HighHeelsOnCobblestones of course there should be dog free places. That’s not what I’m saying.

I’m just a bit confused by dog haters getting grumpy about dogs being in dog-friendly cafes. (And I repeat, I have never seen a dog on a table.)

BarryCantSwim · 07/07/2024 20:44

I’m a dog lover although don’t have one.

I’m finding the trend of bringing dogs everywhere v odd. Yes they shouldn’t be on the table but more broadly I see so many in busy shops being weaved through crowds, in noisy restaurants squeezing into tiny spaces to sit, and expected to just sit there.

Awful for them and I judge the owners.

Mamtorr · 07/07/2024 23:02

Went to a cage yesterday and the family next to us changed their babies pooey nappy on the table and left the nappy on the table when they were asked to leave

Exactly. Did when did baby poo become more disgusting than dogs that they were asked to leave yet dogs ard fine.

xsquared · 08/07/2024 09:44

Of course changing a baby's nappy is unacceptable and disgusting, most people know that, but it has nothing to do with this thread which is about dogs.
Stop deflecting.

I have no problem with well behaved dogs and if they were sitting close by theor owner on the floor. They shouldn't be on chairs and tables.

That said, I once declined a suggestion by a friend to have lunch at a dog's diner place, given that none of us had dogs!

OonaStubbs · 08/07/2024 13:18

The only dogs that should be allowed in shops and eateries are actual service dogs. Other dogs should only be allowed in private homes and veterinary surgeries.

QueenCamilla · 08/07/2024 13:45

I stopped going to Starbucks in Deal (dunno why people won't name the places) after the seat I chose absolutely reeked of wet dog and the fabric bench seat next to me was covered in white layer of dog hair.

I don't hate dogs. I stroked and ruffled the scruff of a large Alsatian in a pub and the dog owner commented how much the dog seems to like me. All fine thus far, until I took my hand away and my palm was grey-black in colour with dirt. I had to wash my hands immediately before I even touched my glass.

I've moved to Northern England now and there's less dogs here and nearly none in eating establishments. I saw a tiny sausage pup on the lap in cafe Nero - he's all grown now and the owner stays outside with him.

It's the South of the country that seems to be particularly dog-riddled.

NoMoreTories · 10/07/2024 19:40

Trigger warning: disgusting images of filth beast and its gross tongue (possibly just licked its own genitals):

I had a fb friend post this recently, chortling away about how charming and funny it was. To my mind, this is absolutely repulsive. And it disturbs me that anyone finds it acceptable, let alone cute. They are on a train, in case you can't tell.

I'd be disgusted if I had to contend with this, let alone whilst eating some crisps. Why is it even on the seat too?!

This is why us non-dog people can't stand dogs and their people. It's getting way out of hand.

NoMoreTories · 10/07/2024 19:43

Images:

There were more, but I am feeling so repulsed, and don't want to make the non-dog people feel even more sick.

NoMoreTories · 10/07/2024 19:45

And I am sure if I'd said I saw a dog on a train seat, poking its face through the gap in the chairs to the people behind, baring its stinking teeth and tongue after some crisps, the dog people would be calling me a liar.

FOJN · 06/07/2024 21:00

There was a thread on here a while ago about someone changing a nappy on the table in cafe. I've never seen it but I haven't seen a dog on a table either.

That must have been me, and it really happened- unfortunately!

Saschka · 25/08/2024 21:52

Bet it was Gail’s wasn’t it? Always tonnes of bloody dogs on the seats there, wouldn’t supreme at all to find one on a table.

And I avoid dog friendly airbnbs since we stayed in one and washed some clothes, and they came out covered in dog hair from the filthy washing machine (which seemed to have been used to wash dog blankets). Dog hair all over the sofas and beds as well. Just grim.

DBD1975 · 29/10/2024 16:31

Brilliant, where is this cafe, can't wait to visit.

Jeremono · 29/10/2024 16:34

Oh look, another anti-dog thread. Imagine having such hatred towards innocent vulnerable creatures.

DBD1975 · 29/10/2024 16:35

fungipie · 07/07/2024 14:11

Oh my - what friendly souls you are. So just go to places which don't allow dogs- that is all fine by me.But don't tell me all dog owners are the same- my dog will never bother people or be on a seat, let alone on the table. And it does not stink either.

We will have to agree to disagree here. But let me tell you I never trust anyone who has such hatred and disgust towards dogs, and have always been proven right. Cheers- I wish you a lovely dog free day and life :)

My dog is not little, and it is a dog, not a doggie. Thanks.

Edited

Well said, never trust a person who doesn't like animals and never have a person who doesn't like dogs in your life (I wouldn't)!
