Dogs on tables in Cafes !!

Bride2Be25 · 06/07/2024 20:30

I was in a cafe today (part of a very well known chain) and not only saw several dogs sitting up on the chairs & sofas but one delightful family had their dog up on the table!!! Staff didn’t been bat an eyelid.

I am honestly flabbergasted that people think this is acceptable. Not only do we have to put up with dogs barking at each other in restaurants and cafes & being covered in dog hair but we now risk eating our food off tables that have had an animal walking all over.

No point to this thread really but just giving people a heads up to be extremely mindful of where you eat - I will be avoiding any food establishments that allow dogs from now on and encourage others to do the same.

Oh my - what friendly souls you are. So just go to places which don't allow dogs- that is all fine by me.But don't tell me all dog owners are the same- my dog will never bother people or be on a seat, let alone on the table. And it does not stink either.

We will have to agree to disagree here. But let me tell you I never trust anyone who has such hatred and disgust towards dogs, and have always been proven right. Cheers- I wish you a lovely dog free day and life :)

My dog is not little, and it is a dog, not a doggie. Thanks.

That’s what the poster said they’ll do and you still felt the need to write out a paragraph to respond to them. Where did I say I have such a hatred and distrust towards dogs? I just don’t want to eat my food with a dog on the floor next to me. Massive difference👍

rainfordays · 07/07/2024 16:57

YANBU. I hve two dogs and would never allow them on a table.

But hopefully you feel equally ardently about children being allowed to stand and walk all over seating in cafes with their shoes on...drives me nuts when I see parents do this and make no effort to clean up afterwards.

Montymorency · 07/07/2024 17:01

I saw exactly this in the members' room ( not even the public cafe) at tate modern, brought it to management attention and was told I WBU. Didn't renew my membership

JohnTheRevelator · 07/07/2024 17:28

I don't think I've ever actually seen a cafe that permits dogs. Where was this?

My god another dog bashing thread. I'm in.

If I saw a dogs winking crusty sphincter at my eye level when I'm trying to enjoy a cucumber sandwich I'd literally vomit. Dirty, dirty beasts.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I feel this way about kids, trotting over sofas with dirty feet and picking noses.

But in all honesty it would extend to a dog too, they should not be on the table or seats.

Plenty of establishments are not dog friendly- go there. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dogs, all animals infact, should not be on chairs and tables in cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants. They should remain on the floor.

kitsuneghost · 07/07/2024 18:02

Yeah it's gross.

But dog owners think their dogs are cleaner than humans Confused
But then you must have low standards to even own a dog.

Type either dog free or fog friendly cafes near me and you will get many come up.
Also ask on your local Facebook page (I see people on mine ask often and the same 5 or 6 are mentioned)

Dog free however cannot be found on Google
You just need to do the sniff test on entering.

i actively avoid any eaterie that allows dogs. I suggest you do the same, and we vote with our money. And tell the eateries why.

Unfortunately I don't think they will care. Dog walkers are probably a much bigger market than not.

Dogs shouldn't be on the table. I've seen the tag line 'paws on the floor' which should be adhered to in my opinion. But people are scruffs. I've seen people changing nappies/ using potties in cafes and restaurants and it's just grim. I once seen that someone nicely left a changed nappy on the table for the staff to clear away with their rubbish and trays. Grim!!

The world has gone mad. The cult of Dog has replaced the cult of God.

outdamnedspots · 07/07/2024 18:18

Disgusting.

I hate seeing dogs on train seats too. 🤢

RedVanYellowVan · 07/07/2024 18:21

I don't go to cafes or restaurants which allow dogs inside. Neither do I stay in holiday accommodation which allows dogs. Why would I pay to go somewhere dirty?

There is a cafe in my town which is particularly dog friendly. I walk past their large windows and see dogs on the sofas and chairs. The other week there was a smallish dog, back legs on the chair, front legs on the table, drinking or eating out of a bowl. Disgusting, I don't know how they pass even a basic hygiene inspection.

Which is why we always ask for a corner away - and ALWAYS ask people at next table/s if they mind. People always say that they don't, and always congratulate us on our well behaved our dog is. If someone said they did mind, we would move, and sit in a side room or outside, or cancel and leave.

'Why would I pay to go somewhere dirty? ' - do you go where there are ramblers, farmers, children who have played football or in the park? We always have a towel for our dog's paws and clean them before we go in. And our dog (not a doggie, not an Erzatz child- a dog) is any more dirty than the above.

fungipie · 07/07/2024 18:43

In accommodation, our dog sleeps in her own basket, just washed, placed on large clean towel, in the lounge. And will not go upstairs or in bedrooms. We clean paws with clean towel.

I like children too, it is not either or for me- but children who play outside are no cleaner than my dog, and often don't take shoes off (well mine did, but ...)

LaurieFairyCake · 07/07/2024 18:54

Lol never seen this and have a pile of dogs I take out to dog friendly places all the time

I don't even see them on the chairs, never mind the table !

FoundNecklace · 07/07/2024 19:05

I avoid dog-friendly places if I can. Cafe Nero is disgusting for it. Dogs sitting on the sofas. I haven’t seen one on a table yet but believe it can happen.

Many places are dog-friendly now. The pandemic made people introverted, turn to dogs rather than people for comfort and now they can’t leave their house without their furry friends. You know the kind, ‘I prefer dogs to humans’ and inane comparisons of kids to dogs.

There is not much that hygienic folk can do these days. I have also seen dogs barking and running round pubs and one crashed into a table with jugs of water once.

I leave scathing reviews on Tripadvisor and Google. Eg when I see catering staff pat the head of a dog with its paws on the servery counter.

It really puts me off an establishment. I hope we have reached peak dog and humans can eat and drink in peace one day again. For now we just have to tolerate selfish dog-owners that give the good ones a bad name.

I don’t think you notice it because you like dogs. It’s not on your radar. Like you probably think ‘everyone’ likes your dogs, because dog-lovers will stop and talk to you. You don’t notice the people who really hate being around your hordes of pets. It won’t register.

Exactly.

I immediately rule out dog-friendly hotels. I want cleanliness on my holidays!

There is a poster here who lets her dog sit on train tables because he likes the view 🙄 She claims to wipe up after, as if that makes it all ok.

outdamnedspots · 07/07/2024 19:17

@FoundNecklace , that is truly disgusting.

I don't assume everyone loves dogs

Anonym00se · 07/07/2024 19:26

I read “Dogs on tablets in cafes”. Crikey, if it’s not bad enough that parents are giving iPads to toddlers to keep them quiet, now the dogs are all screen addicts too!

I try and avoid dog friendly places but unfortunately dog-free places are few and far between these days where I live. Dogs are everywhere, cafes, pubs, even at the supermarket. It’s really weird.
