Why does his Google history show he was at an industrial estate at night

Last night I was on Dh’s phone-not snooping…initially at least. I was turning lullaby music off that he and our dc had fallen asleep to.
It showed the travel history of where he’d been/been driving etc. I just thought it was quite interesting at first, don’t think I have it on my phone or if I do, no idea how to access it! I started looking and it was all pretty boring-travel to work, certain shops, cafes etc, a friends house. One entry from last Sunday shows him going out in the evening driving for 30 minutes, it says here no location/location not shown. Then from around 10.30-11.30 pm, it shows a location and when I looked at it, it’s an industrial estate. This is really strange isn’t it?! Making me so paranoid, what would you make of it?

Google timeline can be wrong. My last month's timeline shows me visiting an industrial estate in Birkenhead several times - and I haven't been to Birkenhead for 25 years at least.

How do you access this? I've never thought that my journeys would be recorded, or where I would be able to see that.
I think you need to ask him. Do you have reason to be suspicious of his behaviour?

Depends if you have Android or Apple. I just go into my Google account and follow the menus. It can be handy if you have lost your phone, but it does depend how much info you want these corporations to hold on you. You can turn location off.
Various social media platforms also track, some of them let friends see your location or at least see when you are online. You can disable these things.

I was in Jordan last month and my phone insisted I was in Cairo.

The industrial estate near me has a sex club. It's totally suburban a nice area, this is a completely boring normal warehouse building. You wouldn't know, unless you knew...

zingally · 07/07/2024 10:54

Sorry OP, but there's only about 4 reasons blokes would go solo to an industrial estate at that time of night.
1: Prostitution - industrial estates are often places where prostitutes will go and wait for pick-ups.
2: Drugs
3: Dogging - watching other people have sex.
4: Drag racing. Either watching or participating in. Is he interested in cars? Specifically sooped-up racers?

Google Maps isn't 100% accurate. There is loads of information online about this. Have you googled how accurate is Maps?

It depends on lots of things- GPS signal, obstruction of buildings, wifi, your phone battery, sometimes it mistakes mode of transport, whether you are logged into Google or not.

You've taken one thing and you've asked people online and you are getting social proof which is not facts.

In 30 minutes?

Are you questioning whether he could have sex with a prostitute in 30 mins? Or do a drug deal/take drugs? Not sure what you're asking.

He doesn’t have Pokémon Go, he’s 45 😬
Realy don’t want to drive there at that time at night, but feel I need to, where would I say I was going though? Considering I rarely ever go out in the evenings, only occasional girls nights, I’d never venture out at 10.30 on my own, it will seem very strange

What does being 45 have to do with anything?

a) There's absolutely no age limit on having fun
b) I know quite a few people who go out catching Pokemon for their kids - and incredibly seriously they take it, too!

For people saying Google Maps isn't accurate, the issue is that it's been accurate all the rest of the time on her husband's phone.

Oh don't be so ridiculous!

Imagine thinking like this

Could not possible be anything innocent?

What I am saying is that mine is accurate nearly all the time, but has me randomly going to Birkenhead several times last month. So random glitches on a background of accuracy, rather than being random all the time.

RaspberryIce · 07/07/2024 11:34

My Google maps timeline and Life 360 when we used to use it, definitely used to get it wrong sometimes. It showed me visiting the odd random place I hadn't been to.

Corksoles · 07/07/2024 11:52

There's not a parcel drop off box there? I end up in very odd places looking for one with an empty space!

RaspberryIce · 07/07/2024 11:54

You can set Google maps to show everywhere you've been as a pinpoint on the map. Mine is mostly correct, but it says I've been to Aberdeen and have not been to Sheffield. Not true. Went to Sheffield recently. Not been to Aberdeen

RaspberryIce · 07/07/2024 11:55

But obviously that doesn't mean he hasn't been to the industrial estate

It means it would be wise to keep an open mind about whether he did go there.

TwixOwl · 07/07/2024 12:02

Google map history can be used to your advantage to get out of car parking tickets.

I once parked in B&Q, but left to go to the shops instead. Came back and had a ticket.

I edited the Google map history to show I had parked the car at 10:51 am in the car park and then had been in the store from 10:55 to 12:15 and was at the next location at 12:25pm.

They withdrew the parking fine!

User284732 · 07/07/2024 12:07

I do know friends who drop in on friends for an hour or two regularly on weekday evenings and they are all stoners, buying weed from their mates. I assume this is the case for the OP as she has mentioned he has a smoke with friends regularly. So in that sense-i don't think it's odd he does that when there is an explanation.

I'd assume it was meeting a sex worker OP, except for the fact it's Google location history and as others have pointed out, it's sometimes totally inaccurate. I have also got random false entries on mine even when it's mostly accurate. Getting dash cam footage for both your cars might be an idea? Or find some other way to share location via devices.

Yes, as I said in the post before that, Google maps can be wrong.

I will sometimes get a message saying my 'device' has logged on in e.g. Middlesborough.

Since I live in a UK city about as far South as you can get without falling into the sea, I can't ever understand what is going on !

That is outrageous - many of us can be a little paranoid even when we don't really believe something is at all likely.
