To hate Sweet Caroline

It used to be a good song but it's been so overplayed it's become unbearable. And with the extra "So Good" x 3 that seems to have become an official part of the lyrics over the years makes me want to tear my ears off.

I think Neil Diamond originally intended to use his wife’s name in the lyrics but it didn’t scan so he looked around for an alternative - Caroline Kennedy was mentioned in a news item so he took it for the song.

I like the original version. The “so good” bit is awful and adds nothing, just an excuse for drunken chanting.

I love it. Reminds me of fun nights out & family weddings. Crackling Rosie is also a corker.

500 miles is a brilliant love song. The others are awful tho!

I've just remembered another song I hate - YlThe King of Rock and Roll by Prefab Sprout. Far too cheerful, too much "la la" as a filler and the terrible lyrics 'hot dog, jumping frog'

As a child I always thought that king of rock and roll song was about a bloke called Albert Cupcake 😆

I love it, it makes many so happy!

I can never understand why this particular song was chosen.

Like previous poster, liked the song, also played at friends funeral, and now ruined.

It peeves me off as a football fan and an Aston Villa supporter. That song has been Villa's for far more years than I can remember.

I know I'm not rational for this in most people's eyes. Tribalness involved here, I know.

I'm 4th generation (for my sins) AVFC, so that might help some understanding that there is life and then there is my team 😉😏😊

I mean, who started it? Who decided that a 50 year old Neil Diamond song that has nothing to do with football would make the perfect England footie anthem?

I adore Neil Diamond's music, I think he's a legend.
His songs remind me so much of my late DD. I love that sweet Caroline is played so often at sports events, nights out etc. Always makes me think of my Dad. I miss him so much😥

I love it. One of the best days of my life, on a catamaran in Barbados motoring back to Bridgetown with Sweet Caroline blasting out.
