Is it ok to chat online with someone of the opposite sex who you have no romantic interest in?

I'm single, time mostly taken up with dc, not looking for any kind of romantic liaison. Recently I have had a couple of long chats online with a chap I met professionally. Both were initiated by him, in my mind just friendly, enjoyable and not flirtatious I don't think.

Now im second guessing the situation and worrying that maybe it's not appropriate and I might be giving him the wrong idea by talking with him. Both chats were a couple of hours of back and forth, lighthearted exchange of humour and just chit chat. I really don't know the guy so it's a bit random.

I'm not very good at picking up social cues. Am I being an idiot? I was just enjoying having some lighthearted social contact. My dc have sen and I'm quite isolated due to their high needs.

its fine, As long as you make it clear its not romantic. You can't not talk to half the population incase they misunderstand you!

How do you make it clear without coming across as either bigheaded (assuming they're interested in a different way) or rude? 😬
