Been in two houses this week. No windows open. Bloody stuffy, makes me feel uncomfortable.
I always open my windows and can't stand sitting in a room or a house where there is no fresh air.
I know it's cold in the winter but at this time of year I can't stand it.
🙄
Get the window open . Lol.

I love a fresh house - can't stand a stuffy one!!! Makes me feel ill when I go into someone's house and it stinks of stuffy humans, urgh!

HollyKnight · 04/07/2024 23:51

Nope. Too many spiders get in when I do that.

Isitautumnyet23 · 04/07/2024 23:52

We open them every day of the year, even if its freezing (at least for a short blast of fresh air). Same at my office as everyone likes them open. Its so unhealthy to not let fresh air into the house and the cause of so many households having problems with mould. Even if all you do is open them in the morning whilst getting ready for work etc and then in the evening, its better than nothing.

Alicewinn · 04/07/2024 23:53

Yes I don’t know how people deal with stale air

Waffle78 · 04/07/2024 23:54

I only open my downstairs windows because they are the small ones that open at the top. I open upstairs a tiny bit open but lock them for safety. But last time I opened them fully upstairs a bird flew in. Don't want to go through that again.

Not everyone likes their windows open though. Bil mum has her heating on over summer. Only if we're going through a heatwave above 20 ISH she doesn't have it on.

GoingRoundInTriangularCircles · 04/07/2024 23:43

Mine get opened daily. Even if rain snow or freezing they get at least 30 minutes to air house

Rest of time upstairs open all day.
Downstairs when I'm home Inc patio doors and kitchen door.

Today was really windy to the point I had to wedge all the.internal doors open as they were slamming with the breeze. It felt so good and aired

Same as us, open every day of the year and love the fresh air all through the house. We also have the washing out all year as long as its dry. The worst for me is houses with washing drying everywhere and windows closed - that must be the cause of so much mould in homes across the country and so many health problems too.

No thanks. I want the pollen outside where it belongs!

This

RubySloth · 05/07/2024 00:21

I feel the cold as I have raynauds, definitely not opening the windows when it's 10c outside and blowing a gale.

Rondel · 05/07/2024 00:25

Well, me too, but I ask people if I’m in their house and I’m finding it too hot or stuffy.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 05/07/2024 00:26

I'm with you! My neighbour has just started building works, and now we cannot open our windows until the builders finish at 4.30pm!! The pneumatic drill is so loud (even with the windows closed), and so much dust, need to keep them shut. It's killing me!!!!!!!! I open all windows as soon as I wake up and don't close them until it gets dark normally, even in winter.

AquaLeader · 05/07/2024 00:34

Those who live in houses that absolutely reek are so used to it that they don't notice it.

Catnipcupcakes · 05/07/2024 00:54

No. Pollen, flies, crop sprays of various kinds and cats that can’t go outside due to health conditions.

I’m not inviting you round for dinner OP so that’s alright.

Bayleaftree63 · 05/07/2024 01:09

MintTwirl · 04/07/2024 23:04

I’m with you OP. First thing I do in the morning is open up the windows a little and the back door for 10-15 minutes at least. I only don’t do it when it’s blowing a gale or below zero.
I hate it on busses when people close all the windows, let the air in ffs!

Me too. No air makes me almost feel like I’m suffocating on too much “stuffy” air

MustBeGinOclock · 05/07/2024 01:38

Agree op. Looks terrible when people never have a window open.
Untidy window sills/cluttered are another bug bear but that's for another day!

YouZirName · 05/07/2024 02:06

There's no moral superiority in having your windows open.

lljkk · 05/07/2024 03:44

I feel the cold so bad, I want to shiver just reading that.
What are your heating bills like?
I imagine indoor temp must be about 10 most the year, same as outside basically.

JerkintheMerkin · 05/07/2024 07:59

@loropianalover I have magnetic screens on all my windows as well. Absolutely love them. I got them to keep my cat in and insects out. I feel for people who have to deal with pollen issues though as fresh air flowing through the house makes such a difference.

Catsmere · 05/07/2024 08:02

I only have a window at the front of my unit, and opening that means hearing the neighbours' godawful radios and televisions that are on all day, so nope. Otherwise it's the back door, and that means getting smoke from my chain-smoking neighbour. No chance.

NightOwlEarlyBird · 05/07/2024 08:04

You'd be fine in my drafty Victorian house, OP. No open windows but plenty of fresh air anyway. I'm currently wearing two fleecies inside and still feel cold.

Blabla81 · 05/07/2024 08:05

Maybe they’re locked open which is what we do, or the back ones are open, which I assume you wouldn’t be able to see.

DampDust · 05/07/2024 08:07

No!
Flies
Pollen
Heat
Next doors cat!

Devilsmommy · 05/07/2024 08:10

HollyKnight · 04/07/2024 23:51

Nope. Too many spiders get in when I do that.

That's why you get mesh window screens. Air in, spiders out😁

RampantIvy · 05/07/2024 08:37

My house is never stuffy. I air the occupied bedrooms and bathrooms every day. We keep all the doors inside the house open (except the bathrooms when in use) and all the windows have trickle vents.

Our downstairs windows are casement windows so I only open the ones at the front in exceptionally hot weather to create a through draft when we are in the house, otherwise someone could easily climb in. Obviously, we haven't had to do this over the last couple of years (I live on the edge of the Pennines on a hill in a house with a garden, not a stuffy south facing flat in a large city in the south).

I use the extractor fan over the hob as it draws the steam and cooking smells out far better than having the window at the other end of the kitchen open. I tend to open the back door rather than the window to give the kitchen a good airing.

Are you a burglar?
