Been in two houses this week. No windows open. Bloody stuffy, makes me feel uncomfortable.
I always open my windows and can't stand sitting in a room or a house where there is no fresh air.
I know it's cold in the winter but at this time of year I can't stand it.
🙄
Get the window open . Lol.

ChishiyaBat · 04/07/2024 23:08

Nope only my bedroom and even then it's as close to shut as I can get. Like so many others I need to keep pollen(and insects)out and my beloved parrots and budgie in. I do open both my front door&back door once a week when I clean to give it an airing though.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 04/07/2024 23:11

I would love to have my windows open in summer in particular.

However. I would never relax in the day / sleep at night if my windows were open at the front of the house where my bedroom is as despite Living in a 'Naice' area of London that's just asking for it.

I also have 2 cats who are allowed into the garden at the back of the house (windows and doors often open) but I couldn't let them out the front as they'd last about a week.

I do agree about the fresh smell - but it's just not always practical

Gettingbysomehow · 04/07/2024 23:11

Its giant moth season here in Somerset and those buggers will come in day and night. I had one in my hair yesterday, they just dive bomb you.

ABCDEFuckYou · 04/07/2024 23:12

It’s like winter where I am! I wish I could open the windows without a force 10 gale blasting through the house. It was snowing on the mountains earlier and no I’m not joking.

I’m with you OP. First thing I do in the morning is open up the windows a little and the back door for 10-15 minutes at least. I only don’t do it when it’s blowing a gale or below zero.
I hate it on busses when people close all the windows, let the air in ffs!

Are you a specialist teacher who is clinically vulnerable and who will leave their job because people on the bus wont open the window?! lol

darksigns · 04/07/2024 23:21

No thanks, I’m on maximum hay fever meds already.

RaginaPhalange · 04/07/2024 23:21

It's rather cold and wet in glasgow so no thanks, have had to boost the heating

blackandwhitestripes · 04/07/2024 23:23

Sleep with my windows open all seasons, you'd be happy here!!

6pence · 04/07/2024 23:23

It’s got to be a certain temperature for me to open windows and when it gets too hot I keep them closed to keep the cool in, so yes I’m one of those who rarely have windows open! Sorry op, but you do you etc 😃

ForGreyKoala · 04/07/2024 23:24

I don't understand it either OP. The first thing I do when I get up is open the windows, summer and winter. I'm heating the living room atm (winter here) but as soon as I turn the heating off the window will be open. In my old flat they stayed open day and night, but now I am quite close to the street they get shut at night. Surely windows, by their very design, are meant to open? I even open the door for a while, and when spring arrives it will be open most of the time when I'm home.

loropianalover · 04/07/2024 23:26

I agree, stagnant air knocks me sick and is so obvious when you walk into a room/house. I hate the smell of food and animals too. We have magnetic nets on our high up windows to stop bugs coming in and they’re left open pretty much all the time including overnight unless it’s freezing.

TuckingFerrible · 04/07/2024 23:29

My windows.
My business.
LOL

Ohfuckwhatdoidonow · 04/07/2024 23:34

Lol I wish I could, but everyone in my house suffers with really bad hay-fever. They'd never stop coughing or sneezing, I miss the breeze of having the windows open though

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/07/2024 23:36

I'm with you OP - my parents have their windows shut all the time and it's so stuffy and smelly (mum has dementia). I sleep with a window open whatever the weather - I am like a dog and love a cold nose!

silentpool · 04/07/2024 23:37

And then they moan about mould!

I open my windows, for at least 15 mins a day, all year round. I also prefer to sleep with my window open.

speculoss · 04/07/2024 23:41

I’m the same as others -normally I’d love to open my windows every day for a little while at least but sadly i have terrible hay fever so it’s not wise.

I opened them a few days ago and I suffered terribly that evening. I have asthma and hayfever triggers that as well as my insomnia so I need to be careful. The sacrifice of fresh air is well worth it for staying well and getting a decent nights sleep.

It was a nightmare when I was younger and lived in flatshares in hot London as others would open the windows all day in June /July 🤧

now I have my own place I never have windows opened constantly though, even in winter - I find it let’s in all kinds of creepy crawlies plus I find it noisy during the day as I live next to a busy road.

TheOriginalEmu · 04/07/2024 23:42

CavalierApproach · 04/07/2024 22:41

No word of a lie, I was about to reply, ‘Pollen? But it’s winter’ — and then I remembered it isn’t winter, it is just an incredibly cold and grey July 😭

😂😂😂 I feel you on that one, I keep saying ‘in the summer’ as if it wasn’t already July 😂

GoingRoundInTriangularCircles · 04/07/2024 23:43

Mine get opened daily. Even if rain snow or freezing they get at least 30 minutes to air house

Rest of time upstairs open all day.
Downstairs when I'm home Inc patio doors and kitchen door.

Today was really windy to the point I had to wedge all the.internal doors open as they were slamming with the breeze. It felt so good and aired

Runnerinthenight · 04/07/2024 23:44

I have three indoor cats so no! I do open bedroom windows and ensuite window because they don't have access.

Far too breezy here to open windows! No idea what bloody season we are in! Will open windows on latch and open vents when it's hot but it's better to close the curtains and close the windows!

GoingRoundInTriangularCircles · 04/07/2024 23:45

However apart from 1dc we all have terrible hay-fever but I just can't not open them. It makes me agitated if I feel stuffy

speculoss · 04/07/2024 23:45

I love that some of us are forgetting it’s summer 😂 hopefully July will brighten up.

ScottBakula · 04/07/2024 23:47

DrCoconut · 04/07/2024 22:44

We have to be careful opening windows as our cat isn't allowed out for health reasons.

Yep same here and mine is a aggressive little git .
