To be a secret Tory voter and feel embarrassed about it?

SecretToryVoter · 04/07/2024 12:41

I’ve just gone to do my vote and had to admit to myself that I’m one of those secret Tory voters and would be embarrassed to admit it to friends / family!

A month ago I was adamant that I would be voting Labour but ended up changing my mind for a number of reasons

  1. Keir seems to have a number of grand ideas of what he wants to do but no substance behind how he’s going to do it (where is he going to find an additional 6,500 teachers as just 1 example)
  2. Womens rights
  3. my Labour candidate has been helicoptered in and doesn’t look good on paper whereas the Tory candidate is a local, well respected councillor
  4. Tory policy is closer to my values overall

anyone else had to admit to themselves that they are a Tory at heart for this election?

Because people genuinely cannot hold a view that is different to your own? 🙄

No, because the Tories are desperate, and are clinging on for dear life. They've been trying all sorts. Sunak's favorite meal "sandwiches" 😂

So based on the last 14 years of Tory rule you think they speak nothing but the truth? You trust this party when they have done nothing but lie? You are happy for the NHS to collapse? It is well on its way. I guess you are a private health care patient so you're alright.

Why is it only two ends of the extreme that get brought up? I’ve said endless times to the point of boredom for me the Tories were the only choice out of a very very shit bunch. None of them deserve to be in power but I have my democratic right to a vote because one of them (Labour) will be in power tomorrow.

Im a single mum on benefits caring for disabled children. So no, I don’t use private healthcare. But despite everything I still would prefer Conservative over Labour. You can be angry about it, not understand it, go on about the magical unicorn of politics Labour are selling (or simply have a carry on about how they’re Not Tory and that should be enough), it doesn’t change my opinion today. And I look forward to be proven wrong believe me but I’m seeing absolutely nothing to suggest things will change or simply get worse in what personally matters to me in the next few years of a Labour government.

Honestly do not know how somebody with a disabled child could vote Tory given their approach to those with disabilities. But it’s a free vote.

I’ve said it enough times over enough threads. It’s not just about the trans issue, their policies around women in general are non existent. Socially, in terms of healthcare, cost of living for single parent families. I find their education policies damaging in more ways than the Tories and that’s saying something. And no, I do not want people who actively push their ideologies as truths in the highest political positions in the country. Out of all the options on my ballot, the Tories were the least shit option for future government in my view, yes they have made decisions that have had severe effects but due to their austerity measures our economy as a whole has not collapsed.

Unlike the Tories, I don’t believe a single thing Labour have said about ‘change’. I believe Labour will take the slow but evident economic progress the conservatives have made, overspend again on their big unworkable ideas and we’ll be back to square one in 5 years. With a still shit education system. But at least they were kind to LGBT people, who are apparently still the most marginalised people in this country (after yet another month of every corporation going monetising from Pride).

Bloody hell. Tories least shit option.
See as soon as you said ‘back to square one’ I knew you were posting in bad faith.

Admittedly I haven't fully read the thread, but I can see noone who has voted Tory being negative about people with opposing views, but, as is not surprising, plenty of the opposite.

I agree. I’ve read, I think, all the thread and no ones said loony left or anything similar.
Lots coming from the other direction some of which have since been taken down by MNHQ
I’ve just reported a shocking one on page 20
Hoping it will go too!

Franzkafkascat · 04/07/2024 18:23

@cardibach agree. On benefits and working in an area massively underfunded by the Tories. Hope poster tells the parents of these kids how she’s voted, I’m sure they’ll be impressed. I guess she/he cares more about the privately educated waifs we’ve heard so much about.

Then don’t understand it, it bothers me very little. What are Labour proposing to do for disabled children that differs from the Tories? What are they going to do for familial carers such as myself?

The Tories have already cut benefits and services and signalled that they will be tougher on disabilities. Labour haven’t done that. And haven’t said they will. Have noticed you’re a ‘back to square one’ advocate. If that’s 2010 I’m all for it. Brilliant NHS, far fewer in poverty, education properly funded…and on and on.

Do you know how many parents of sen kids have to scrimp and save to send their ‘waifs’ to a school that can meet their needs? I’ve looked into it myself in desperation. These will be the kids who suffer from private school taxation.

I have no idea what this ‘back to square one’ backlash is, I can only assume some Tory bots have been also throwing it out and I missed the memo.

Do you have links to the Tories saying they will cut DLA or are you talking only about PIP?

Zippedeedooda · 04/07/2024 18:29

cardibach · 04/07/2024 18:13

That’s not what I said, is it?

@Namechange98242
In fairness to @cardibach i think they were just trying to explain to me my confusion regarding a pp comment. That’s all

cardibach · 04/07/2024 18:29

@LostTheMarble i can’t reply to your post about SEN kids for some reason. However, if you are on benefits as you say you will NEVER be able to afford private school fees, VAT or no VAT. State education should be funded to support those with SEN - as it was before austerity.

Back to Square one is one of Sunak’s repeated-ad-infinitum phrases. Since it actually makes no sense at all, I don’t believe you independently came up with the same nonsense.

I have looked it up, thoroughly. Labours education manifesto is one of the key reasons I didn’t vote for them, especially on regards to SEN.

I was also going to say this. As far as I can see, the Tories have made no mention of cutting/reducing/changing the process for DLA.

(Also carer of a disabled child).

The whole PIP thing is an ongoing consultation. The consultation is over this month and report will be ready in September.
Both parties have said they will review the report and it’s findings and suggestions. There’s another thread on this looking / talking at it in more detail. Well as much as you can given the consultation is ongoing.

Yes TikTok is full of reform videos and tbh the videos they posted would make you like them. They look like a perfectly good party with what people would think are normal straight forward ideas.

Problem is they want to leave the European human rights convention and the youth of today having always had those rights don't understand what losing them means for us, not just the asylum seekers. You only have to look at what's happening with protesting to see freedom of speech, democracy and human rights are being eroded in this country. It's a count down to autocracy and election rigging, democracy is in decline. Probably before the end of our lifetimes the way things are going. That's if we live that long given the trajectory we are on with Russia and China.

Fair enough. My comment was in response to those with the view that many people supportive of the Tories must be Tory propaganda machines.

Scrimp and save 😂 some of us couldn’t even afford it if we gave up Netflix and avocado for the next 20 years. My son is dyslexic, too late now but a school with smaller classes and more targeted help would have been great, but sadly not for the likes of us. Too poor.

I agree there’s been a lot of bot shaming on this thread by others but that wasnt cards modus operandi.
