To think that pulling net curtains into the middle of the window and then tying them into a knot is never a good look?

My new neighbour keeps doing it, I want to knock on the door and ask her to come across to my side of the street and see if she thinks it looks nice.

I live in the end house of a cul-de-sac, so nobody walks past my house. We drawn the curtains when it gets dark and also have a roman blind.

Yes, we got rid of the hamster just after I discovered his passion for rodents.

purplemoon · 10/04/2008 14:12

I too have a washing up bow as I don't fancy wasting water every time I wash up by filling the sink up.

My personal dislike of netcurtains Kathy is purely and wholly irrational ...maybe I'm just nosy and like to be able to see out .

Oliveoil · 10/04/2008 14:12

what is wrong with a washing up bowl fgs?

Fimbo · 10/04/2008 14:14

I have a basin in my kitchen and utility [proud emoticon]. I do not have net curtains or those anti things. [doubly proud emoticon].

Ooh, ooh, ooh, an environmental reason for washing up bowls!

Purplemoon - but you can see out with netcurtains, people just can't see in, that's the whole point! Otherwise they would just be curtains.

Iota · 10/04/2008 14:16

purplemoon - if you want to see out of your net curtains, you could try knotting them up in the middle of the window

OverMyDeadBody · 10/04/2008 14:16

kathy there are lots of alternatives to net curtains to stop people looking in, but personally i like being able to look into people's houses, I am nosy!

I was wondering about that poor vole too VS.

moondog · 10/04/2008 14:19

'DP used to do it with the vole in our old house'

lmao

southeastastra · 10/04/2008 14:20

like what mydeadbody? blinds too dark, voiles (same as nets). what else is there? i don't want the local hoodlums nicking my stuff.

hecate · 10/04/2008 14:21

Net curtains. Hate 'em. DH is obsessed with people Not Seeing In and made us have them. I was so pleased when we had the blinds fitted and I was able to bin the fecking things. - btw, you can also see out with blinds without passers by seeing in, without having to suffer old fashioned, grannynet curtains that always look grey from outside - even if they're fresh from the wash.

DrippingLizzie · 10/04/2008 14:22

My window-related bugbear are those sweet old dears who insist on placing their enormous, mirrored dressing tables right in front of their bedroom windows...

SheikYerbouti · 10/04/2008 14:23

I don;lt like washing up bowls, because they get alool scratcht and minging. I have a washing up bowl which I use for general cleaning

I think it stems back to memeories of early childhood when I was ill, and my dad gave me the wahing up bowl to be sick in,. and then rinsed it out and replaced in the sink.

Plus they are a bit naff.

IMO

OverMyDeadBody · 10/04/2008 14:23

frosted glass, that stuff you stick on windows to look like frosted glass, in kitchens some nice fabric covering half the window, plants in front of the wwindows, plain thin white material (not the same as netting)shutters...

moondog · 10/04/2008 14:24

DL, I never get that.
Come to think of it, I don't get anyone who puts crap in the window. Fgs, it's not as if we are blessed with an abundance of natural light in UK is it?

My friend's mother visited my house, looked around, wrinkled her nose and said 'It's a bit bare isn't it? You could do with some ornaments'

Iota · 10/04/2008 14:24

oooh we have a special washing up bowl for kids to be sick in.

and we also use it for camping

moondog · 10/04/2008 14:25

Net curtains are as naff as washing up bolws.
Oh, and mug and banana trees. And spoon rests.

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 10/04/2008 14:25

oooh, people who put their nick-nacks on the windowsill... facing outwards

Kathyis6incheshigh · 10/04/2008 14:25

Gosh yes DrippingLizzie. My granny used to have her dressing table in the bay window of her lovely 30s semi.

It's interesting though. People in those days used to go to an enormous amount of trouble to make their front gardens lovely but didn't bother about what their furniture looked like inside their windows. However now people (in general - I am not accusing anyone on this thread, obv) tarmac their front gardens and park cars in them but worry about the visual effect of their window draperies

southeastastra · 10/04/2008 14:26

frosted glass would look horrible, still i only have them in the front windows and they're plain white.

i was looking on top tips for girls the other day and they recommend putting your dressing tables in front of the window for the best light.

SheikYerbouti · 10/04/2008 14:26

You camp in a washing bowl used for blown chunks, Iota?

Are you all incredibly small?

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 10/04/2008 14:27

kathy is, sheik (6")

Iota · 10/04/2008 14:27

LOL Sheik - the name is a bit of a giveaway isn't it?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 10/04/2008 14:27

God, I think frosted glass is way naffer than net curtains. And as for stuff you stick on to look like frosted glass, that's simply appalling!

chocolatespiders · 10/04/2008 14:28

havent had nets for ohhh at least 10 years... have wooden blinds...

hate my blinds in the kitchen but planning to move next year... so dont want to replace with really nice ones...
