To think It's not THAT odd to order a baked potato instead of chips, with a burger?

Went for a pub lunch with my friend on Sunday.
Ordered a burger and asked for baked potato instead of chips.
I just don't favour the chips in this particular pub, and it saves fat/calories.

When my lunch arrived my friend was aghast (not exaggerating) kept repeatedly telling me how odd it was, that 'burgers go with chips that's that!' and 'You can order a baked potato on the menu anyway, so that's like you've got TWO meals!'
I see the point there but, a baked potato has fewer calories than a portion of chips, so doesn't that sort of negate that point at least?

I had the same comment a few years ago on a work do too-although they just made one comment rather than repeated ones.

There's a pub near me that offers any side with a burger, including baked potatoes, whereas most places I have to ask for a swap.

I kind of proved my friends' point in this pub on Sunday though, because the burger came with guacamole and roast veg on it, and I couldn't fit it into my mouth so I used them as a topping for the potato so I suppose that DID make it into two meals in the end!

So, Liz Taylor put on a lot of weight and Joan was making a joke about her eating habits. When you're asked what you want on your hotdog people usually say Ketchup or onions. Liz wants a whole hamburger. I didn't tell it right - which is why you didn't get it.

Also, the joke is very old. Perhaps these days it is seen as perfectly reasonable to have a hamburger on your hotdog.

I do get it now! And can see how it'd be funny 'of its time '!

Far too many carbs for me but you do you (I’m on a diet).

To be fair to me, now AND last year, I tend to be healthy and low carb mostly, throughout the week and then on a weekend (usually only every second one) I'll have a treat food of some sort be it a nice meal out or a burger/few glasses of wine with a friend or any variation thereof. I wouldn't eat carb overload every day. I'd be very unhealthy and soon require my own postcode if I did that.

A jacket potato is a meal. Imagine having a meal with a meal. This is wrong.

I would look to therapy.

You'd have a baked potato just by itself, nothing on it, as a main meal? Really? I guess each to their own!
