Can we talk about Missing Man Jack O'Sullivan

It is now over 100 days since 23-year-old Jack O'Sullivan went missing on March 2nd 2024, following a night out in Hotwells, Bristol.

Jack, having attempted to get a taxi home, was last seen on CCTV on the morning of March 2nd at approx. 3:40 am walking up the Bennett Way slip road heading back towards Hotwells.

Jack's phone was still active and placed him at an address at 5:40 am in the Granby Hill area.

His phone continued to be live on the network until 6:44 am.

Nothing has been seen or heard of Jack since the early hours of that morning.

I remember reading about this and my impression was Jack was very drunk and near water- the assumption being he had somehow ended up in the water.

The phone could simply have bern found by someone and taken off to their house. It isn't necessarily significant.

However, as is often the case now, the police don't emerge from this as having being thorough in their investigations- CCTV, the house where the phone was etc.

I feel incredibly sorry for Jack's parents who are doing everything they can to try to find him. It must be unbearable.

This is so sad. I agree that it hasn't been publicated enough. The first I heard of this was yesterday and I live 5 mins away, the Bristol Post publish all kinds of crap so why not this??

His last movements aren’t on the harbour side. They are in an area with railings. I was driving in that area today. The railings have to be there as the bridge is a major road. I can’t see any way he could have fallen.

I feel the same way as you. I know the area and the route he took felt really strange, I don’t understand where he was trying to go. I also agree that it is a difficult place to fall into the water from, unless he somehow got back down to the water level? Those railings would prevent any toppling I would think.

It is so sad, I hope the family do get some answers.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 03/07/2024 02:24

From the video it very much looks like he was wandering around unsure of where he was. If he does go in the water there then to me it looks like he would have gone in just outside the floating harbour, more around the point where the river splits and goes in to the harbour one way and the new cut the other. This would be tidal and is a very long tidal reach.

There's a local man to me been missing 2 weeks and we're only just hearing about it now. He's a monk so not sure if he's only just been reported missing.

I've just been reading up on this. It's so sad. I'd be interested to know how well properties on Granby Hill were searched, door to door etc.

Merryweatherincoming · 03/07/2024 04:23

We were in clifton a few weeks ago and the posters are everywhere there. Agree it's such a sad situation. Awfu that the police didn't take this one more seriously earlier.

There's a similar case here in Berkshire. Not a word in the media.

Whereabouts? I live in Berkshire and haven’t heard anything..

HelloDaisy · 03/07/2024 06:08

So sad for his family. Why are the police tracking down the phone?

So he dropped his phone and a random picked it up and took it home? Last pinged at address 5.30 am yes? Then off for good half an hour or so later.

Presumably police have followed that lead?

It's got to be:
a He dropped his phone and fell in the water.

b Or he went to this address and something awful happened to him.

WhereDoWeGoFromHereHmmm · 03/07/2024 08:48

I have heard about this case and think about him and his family often.

The not knowing, the vanishing into thin air, it must be unbearable.

I really hope they eventually resolve the case but assuming he is dead it's such a sad loss of a young life with everything ahead of him.

Eatyerselffitter · 03/07/2024 08:49

I will post this on social media . I feel for Jack's family so much. Not heard about Jack at all . Such a shame.

Thanks for posting that. I didn’t realise there was a gap.

When I watched the reconstruction of the path it made me think whether somebody could have stopped and offered him a lift. It’s a fast road, but quieter at that time so maybe it’s possible if on a stretch without CCTV. I don’t know if there is any other way to know whether a car could have stopped without it.

Daisy12Maisie · 03/07/2024 17:36

It's really sad but it's not a case of the police haven't bothered. They have sent out specialist search teams, dogs, checked phone records, lots of other things but ultimately haven't found him. (I'm local so have seen a lot of it going on).

He has more than likely gone into the water, which is tidal so will have been swept out to sea. I don't think spreading awareness will help because he isn't just wondering around lost.

Alcohol and water is such a dangerous mix. As a mum of teenage boys it's a massive concern. i dont think it should be normalised for men to come home alone. I wish they would come home in groups or pairs as they would be so much safer. Poor family.

Linzymj · 03/07/2024 19:41

A few pyhsics have said its a hit and run and he is in the water. I really feel for the family. My brother was killed by a hit and run. But we had closure. This family need to find him. They need closure.

Linzymj · 03/07/2024 19:44

I really feel for the family. A few pysics have said he was hit by a car. Hit and run and he is in the water, near the bank hidden and near flowers. I pray he is found soon. Poor family need closure

5475878237NC · 03/07/2024 19:47

Thank you OP. Hadn't heard of this poor man.

StMarieforme · 03/07/2024 19:48

Awful though this is, 170,000 people are reported missing every year. That's 4270 a week.

How can they all be covered?

Though I would definitely say that cases like this where he was communicating then just stopped should def be in the news.

Totallymessed · 03/07/2024 19:57

I live in Bristol, and honestly, the chance that it is anything other than him falling into the water is minuscule. Young men drowning on their way home from a night out is sadly not rare. It must be awful for his family, but I'm not sure giving them hope that he is alive somewhere is helpful. Or the amateur detectives wondering about phone timings, or whether there is a local serial killer lurking around the harbour area pushing people into the river late at night🙄

CatMumSlave · 04/07/2024 07:23

@Daisy12Maisie

I've seen stuff about Jack in the media for months. It's a very strange case indeed. His behaviour that night doesn't make sense and certainly suggests that he was intoxicated - either drink or drugs or both. Why on earth would anyone take that route and wander around in such a dark area away from the direction he was supposedly heading in at 3am? His poor family must be frantic 😥

I've seen the video of the route he took but I didn't know the route he could / should have taken.
