www.findjackosullivan.co.uk/

It is now over 100 days since 23-year-old Jack O'Sullivan went missing on March 2nd 2024, following a night out in Hotwells, Bristol.

Jack, having attempted to get a taxi home, was last seen on CCTV on the morning of March 2nd at approx. 3:40 am walking up the Bennett Way slip road heading back towards Hotwells.

Jack's phone was still active and placed him at an address at 5:40 am in the Granby Hill area.

His phone continued to be live on the network until 6:44 am.

Nothing has been seen or heard of Jack since the early hours of that morning.

Heart breaking. I hope his family have news soon. And how terrifying was that underpass network, even in daylight? Urban planning at it's most thoughtless.

SallyWD · 02/07/2024 11:43

That's heartbreaking. I simply can't imagine what his family are going through. Was the address near water? I feel people often end up falling in rivers etc.

MadKittenWoman · 02/07/2024 12:06

I live near there. Unfortunately, he'll be in the river which is tidal and is full of mud and silt.

Livelovebehappy · 02/07/2024 12:08

Have the police started trawling the river? It’s usually unlikely in these kinds of cases that there’s something sinister, unless drugs are involved. I’m guessing he’s fallen into the river, and hopefully the police will put a lot of manpower into getting divers in there.

I’m sorry to hear this. Do missing men generally get less coverage in the media than missing women? I haven’t heard about this at all but it’s confusing that the media report more heavily on some cases than others.

I think missing women definitely get more media coverage, especially if they're young and attractive women.
Do you remember the Joanna Yeates case? A young woman who was murdered by her neighbour? That got sooo much media attention (and rightly so, it was horrific) but I read that several young men went missing that weekend too - some were also violently murdered by random strangers. However they got no media coverage at all. Joanna Yeates was an attractive, young, blonde, middle class woman - the public are more interested in those sorts of cases...

I think OP means can we give his disappearance some publicity, yano, like him whose gone awol in Tenerefy?

CatMumSlave · 02/07/2024 12:46

@LakeTiticaca
Yes. I don't always word things properly probably due to my autism / dyslexia. I didn't know what to put.

Avon and Somerset Police told Newsbeat its officers had recently reviewed more than 100 hours of CCTV, sent specialist dive teams to comb the River Avon and dog teams to to search the local area.

That was back in mid May.

What a heartbreaking thing, I have a young adult and i just can't imagine what the family are going through. I really hope he is found soon.

LakeTiticaca · 02/07/2024 13:05

Must be heartbreaking, the not knowing what happened. The family must be going through every kind of hell x

It's so sad.

As parent of a young lad the same age it's utterly terrifying.

This website is so clear.
It's excellent
This should be standard

You're right - that website is perfect. Shame it hasn't generated any positive results yet though 😢

sweeneytoddsrazor · 02/07/2024 14:15

Far too many young men end up in the water in Bristol. A lot of people believe that someone is responsible for it, but the police always say there is no foul play.
Similar to the cases in Manchester

This is such a sad unresolved case, but like other local PPs have said, this has got wide coverage in the area, his posters are EVERYWHERE, his parents are on the local news very frequently. Everyone I've spoken to says the same sad thing - he fell in the river (someone said it had been high tide? I'm not sure if that's true or not) and may never be found. I'm sure I'd be doing the same as his parents if it were a child of mine, but they may never get the answers they're looking for.

Hopefully this link works, or at least takes people to the right page. They have reconstructed Jack's journey up until CCTV lost sight of him. Anything that jogs peoples memories is so important

Can I just say this is a genius idea, have never seen it done before and must be so helpful to the locals.

I wonder if someone stole his phone just before he turned back in the last part of the video, although presumably the thieves would have also been caught on cctv, or he'd have been seen running away.

Well done for raising awareness OP. It is indeed a mystery and I truly hope an answer is found soon.

TiroirSousLeMiroir · 02/07/2024 15:10

It says he had an airtag - I wonder why that hasn't yielded a clue

Unfortunately it was not set up properly and so did not work.

Thats a fabulous website.

Where is his airtag showing as it is?

YouCanRingMyBellingham · 02/07/2024 15:54

It's been in the local news and the daily have been on local tv. The family feel that the police messed up and had to look through a lot of cctv footage themselves. They've employed people to help as the police have been unwavering on their intital stance that he sadly fell into the water.

YouCanRingMyBellingham · 02/07/2024 15:54

Family not daily

There's lots of factors involved. And sometimes it'd harder to say why one person gets far more interest than another.
If there is a possibility of a grisly murder it tends to attract less helpful speculation. And if it does turn out to be foul play the media gets really interested. But a man walking alongside a river disappearing looks less suspicious and therefore sadly for his family gets less interest.

biscuitandcake · 02/07/2024 15:57

As a general rule, really good local attention is more helpful than national interest as well. Which tends to be more prurient.

No it's known as the floating harbour and is continually filled with water in the area he was last seen. However, if the nearby lock gates have been opened, which they would have been by now....

It is very easy to go in the water in the harbour side area of Bristol. It's was a working docks for 900+ years and the area he was in was still very commercial as late as the 1980s it's used a lot by pleasure craft, dingy sailors and canoeists.

His last movements aren’t on the harbour side. They are in an area with railings. I was driving in that area today. The railings have to be there as the bridge is a major road. I can’t see any way he could have fallen.
