COVID causes period

I have COVID and am on day 13 of my cycle and been spotting for a few days and now full on bleeding. I only ended my last period over 1 week ago!

I have been to gp and awaiting ultrasound (before I knew i had COVID) to cover all bases as have had some lower back pain recently too. I am 37.

Researching I've found that COVID can cling to estrogen receptors and bring on a period. I've had COVID 3 times before that I'm aware of and never experienced this. But never had bleeding between periods either until this month.

Aibu to think COVID could be the cause?! Anyone experienced this?

I know this is a bit of an old thread but did you ever find out the cause of your irregular bleeding ? Just in same position right now !!

I’ve had covid 4-5 times and every single one has brought on my period! And I’m on the mini pill so it’s very rare that I have a period anyway. I just said to my partner the latest time that it must have been covid not a cold as I’ve started bleeding

I had been menopausal for at least 2 years and on getting Covid 3 times and 2 vaccinations I had a light bleed and PMT.

It's known that COVID effects blood, so it does make sense that it might effect periods too.

I had COVID for the first time last February and it didn't ring on my period;if anything I skipped one, but as I'm that age I didn't think too much about it.
However this month is the first one since then that I haven't been passing blood clots. Lots of them and in the first few months, quite big. I normally don't have any clots at all.

I've also noticed that I've had far fewer bruises (I normally bruise very easily) until the last couple of months, and last week, for the first time since COVID I had one of my mammoth nosebleeds for no reason that won't stop. I normally have them about monthly and more often in the summer.

I know this is a zombie thread but dh and I had an upset stomach followed by a cold at the beginning of October. After that my period was late but when I did start it was just spotting for three weeks. I had a cold back in jan/Feb which also messed up my period - didn't remember about this until recently. I take the mini pill and my withdrawal bleeds are usually really regular so I really think there is truth in this covid effect.

I didn't have that specific issue but it did mess my periods up. I think following Covid I went a few months without having a period.

It sounds like your doctor is very on the ball. I had a telephone appointment and they wouldn't get past "You're probably pregnant". It was very frustrating.
