To think about botox

How common is botox and how haggard does it make you look when your older?
I've been thinking of getting a bit as I have a deep line on my forehead but partner said i will regret it when I'm older. I am 32 just now. I would obviously only be getting a few top ups a year. I know people can look terrible after but they are the people who get loads but does a few top ups a year really make you look that bad when your older ? I would maybe get some around my eyes too to hide the wrinkles lol

I’m surprised how so young many on this thread are.

autumn1610 · 29/06/2024 11:31

I had a deep centre frown line which was becoming permanent, it’s the only thing I get done had it at 36 as was making me look grumpy all the time I’ve had it 3 times I think last time was January and it’s starting to ease off, frown hasn’t properly come back, so will leave it a bit longer. But my face looked so much fresher and had a lot of compliments. Didnt restrict facial movements due to where I had it

PeachyKeane · 29/06/2024 16:02

I just had it for the first time at 54, haven't felt the need before but I have a very expressive face and realised my forehead was deeply grooved. It was getting me down as I didn't look like me. I'm really happy with the results, look like myself again 😊

TennisLady · 29/06/2024 18:15

I’m 38 and long had a deep frown line between my eyebrows, since my 20s, due to poor parenting when I was short sighted as a child.
I’ve always been so tempted to try Botox to see if it makes a difference, but sounds as though it won’t work on existing lines?

Cantsleepagain33 · 29/06/2024 18:20

It's a little depressing that women in their early 30s are having it done regularly. How on earth are you going to cope in your 50s?

Scammersarescum · 29/06/2024 18:28

Do you look at your husbands face and dislike it because it has aged?

Do you love him less because of his wrinkles? Is he of less value to you now?

If the answer to these is no and you think it would be weird for your husband to have botox, then why are you having it?

Women age, we should be allowed to do that naturally. It should be accepted as it is for men, we are not objects to prettify the world and the weight of our worth should not be measured in the smoothness of our faces.

Be on the side of women and embrace who you are and your age.

It absolutely works on existing lines. It's very effective on grooves between the eyebrows.

It absolutely works on existing lines. Looking at photos of me in my 30s, I had obvious forehead and frown lines. Now 52, and I have none.

It definitely does. The muscle stops being able to contract which makes it stop worsening, but also over time the existing lines also lessen. That's what happened with my 11s and crows feet anyway; my crows feet are basically non-existent now whereas photos from about 8 years ago they're there.

TennisLady · 29/06/2024 21:00

Ah you’re all making me more tempted now! I’ve been TTC for over a year now so will have to hold off for now I guess, but very tempting.

Scorchio84 · 29/06/2024 21:04

I've had it for years, I've never had any regrets, twice a year so it's not that expensive, it makes me endlessly confident, make up is easier to apply too...

ZanyFox · 19/08/2024 13:44

I'm 57, have botox and I love it.

Fair enough, if you want grey hair, no make up and trainers for the next 30 years, knock yourself out. I would feel utterly depressed dressing like that. Cheap though, so I guess there's that.

Newbie8918 · 19/08/2024 14:05

I've been having Botox since my late 20s. I had very deep lines in one area of my face and nowhere else which looked weird.

I absolutely love it. I've used a certified practitioner and researched reviews before. I ensure that the look is natural. I ask for no eyebrow lift to retain my natural position of my eyes and brows.

No one knows I've had it, unless I discuss it. It's not a secret and I'll happily share. You can't tell as it just enhances and maintains, rather than changes. If I've discussed it, people are surprised (I still have lots of movement).

The moral of the story is, do your research. Find a practice who will help achieve a natural look.

It will wear off if you don't like it. You won't look any more or less haggard when it does.

I’m a bit older than you but started Botox last year just for one fairly deep vertical line between my eyes brows that was very noticeable and really aged me. I had 2 lots 4 months apart, the next lot after another 5 months, and now it has been 7 months and no sign of the line coming back at all! 100% worth it for me.

Does it stop your eyebrows moving or cause you to use other parts of your forehead more? I have a naturally expressive face. I honestly still looked about 20 when I was 32, but since turning 40 I have suddenly got two lines between my eyebrows. I have them because they make me look cross when I'm not.

Wrennyjenwren · 19/08/2024 14:16

I'm 35 and I'm considering it for the frown lines. I look miserable all the time, and it really spoils photos especially when the sun's out.

I think I'll start looking around!

Bignanna · 19/08/2024 14:21

I’ve heard that lines just appear somewhere else, like “ bunny” lines down each side of the nose. Plus, collapse of the area between eyelid and eyebrow. Simon Cowell looked odd in this area at one time, until it wore off.
I find a little filler in the naso labial and marionette lines makes a huge difference to the ageing face, as long as one is not tempted to keep filling other bits, ending up with pillow face!

TheFlis · 19/08/2024 14:24

My lines haven’t moved, they have just disappeared.

@Genevieva my eyebrows still move fine, it’s just the middle bit between them that doesn’t so no line there.

mossylog · 19/08/2024 14:27

What I find bizarre is when people who have botox also buy into nonsense like juice cleanses— wanting to detox but also inject themselves with the botulinum neurotoxin.

OptimismvsRealism · 19/08/2024 14:56

Botox works!

Juice cleanses might be good for the gut idk

Anotherparkingthread · 19/08/2024 15:00

Botox is great. I'm sick of ill informed nonses spouted like doing Botox and drinking juice are mutually exclusive. It's absolute tosh lol.

I want it, but haven’t tried it yet. The cost puts me off. But I’ve been through the most terrible few years of my life, and the pain really shows on my face. I would like it to help me to look less tortured.

And in their 20s! My daughter is 26 and says friends of hers get it done. I look at her face and skin and think it's flawless. I can't see why they'd do it.

Milkandtwosugarsplease · 19/08/2024 21:47

I’m in my early 40’s and have Botox in my forehead, on my crows feet and in between my eyebrows. A bereavement meant I aged ten years at the end of my thirties and Botox makes me feel better. My job requires me to make exaggerated facial expressions so I only have a small amount 2 or 3 times a year. My only advice is to go for a Dr, not a beautician. I pay more than I would in a salon but I’m confident in her ability to keep me safe and deal with any issues, should they arise.

Thank you for all your answeres I think I will maybe bite the bullet and go for it. I just feel/look constantly drained sinse I've had the little one and I feel I need to do something for me to feel good again. I am also trying to lose weight so this will go nicely with that. Thanks everyone.

First lot done after thing about it for almost 2 years and I’m 15 years older than you!
Hate my frown lines which make me look grumpier as I get older so got them sorted. Did my research and went to an established Doctor who does this privately.
Glad I did it, was good to talk through it all and it was and painless procedure which makes me look happier and less angry! Well worth it - just do your research. Mine did one treatment and then went back 2 weeks later for a review and any tweaking and had a slight top up
