To think about botox

How common is botox and how haggard does it make you look when your older?
I've been thinking of getting a bit as I have a deep line on my forehead but partner said i will regret it when I'm older. I am 32 just now. I would obviously only be getting a few top ups a year. I know people can look terrible after but they are the people who get loads but does a few top ups a year really make you look that bad when your older ? I would maybe get some around my eyes too to hide the wrinkles lol

The answer is no to all.
Happily grey
Happily trainered with most of my fabulous clothes, which are not necessarily fashionable/ transient
I don't feel the need to look 'younger' by filing my face with a toxin.
Hapoy in my skin, and no issues with finding frirnds or attracting a 'mate' if I wanted to
Sorry to piss on your 'clever' post

Good for you, other people have different opinions.

Yes, this is why we are posting on a discussion forum
But it seems that if one has a different opinion to the prevailing one here, god preserve you. Even if more than one person shares this 'wrong opinion', the pack will pick one one and shower them with sarcasm and malice.

Please look up Botox injuries.

People think it’s something that never happens yet it happened to me. My muscle is irreversibly damaged, so no it doesn’t always wear off either.

@Gilbertwasawuss that's interesting my eyes are getting more hooded etc

It makes a subtle but noticeable difference. My eyes are getting more hooded as I age too and being able to give myself a bit of a lift and better symmetry is incredible.

I don't care what anyone says, if botox twice a year makes me feel happy and confident and also stops me wanting cosmetic surgery, it can only be a good thing! :)

It's a personal choice and it wears off if you decide you don't like it!

I had some botox around my nose area to drop my upper lip (very gummy smile) and I HATED it.
4 months later it was 90% back to normal and now there's no signs of it at all.

It's like a bad haircut. It's not permanent or the end of the world!

Inthesummertimewhen · 28/06/2024 07:42

Where do they inject for hooded eyes

For me it was permanent.

Ive had surgery on the NHS and still not corrected. I’m not the first my surgeon has dealt with either.

I'm sorry to hear that.

But statistically, if people do their research and go to trained medical professionals, they are typically fine.

And the risk vs going under anesthesia for cosmetic surgery is far better.

Most people have botox with no issues.
I am sorry you were unlucky and had a complication.

IAmAnAdultHumanFemale · 28/06/2024 08:16

I haven't rtwt sorry however Botox and skin treatments are the way forward I think - less are having fillers now.

skin is in!

daffodilandtulip · 28/06/2024 08:17

I'm 44 and have had the line between my eyebrows done twice a year last year and once so far this year, next booked for august which will last the rest of the year.

It was a deep, deep line that made me look tired, angry and unapproachable all of this time. It also seemed deeper than it should for my age. I've got other fine lines around my eyes and lips but they don't bother me. I certainly won't be freezing my face or having other areas done.

And I use a nurse. It's scary how easily some people can train to do this.

Branleuse · 28/06/2024 08:18

I get it every few months. Costs me just over £100 for 2 areas. Really brightens up my whole face. I dont really tell people except one or two friends.
It just relaxes the wrinkles. I still have movement in my forehead, because thats what i ask for. Some people want the frozen look and they get a lot more but i like a more subtle look, but want to look refreshed. Unexpected benefit is that it makes me hold less tension in my face.
Im late 40s and it means i wear less makeup and it does more for me than any fancy moisturiser or serum.
I don't see what would make you regret it when older? If you dont want to keep getting it, it just wears off and if anything it prevents the wrinkles getting deeper

honeylulu · 28/06/2024 08:18

I've had botox recently (first time, 50th birthday present to myself, I didn't think I needed it before) and I am really happy with it. I had started to get really obvious furrowed frown lines and like another poster I had one eyebrow naturally much lower than the other.

I now have a smooth forehead (though I still have some movement and can raise eyebrows etc, not frozen) and my brows are adjusted to look much more symmetrical. That was 8 weeks ago and no sign of it wearing off. I went to a nurse-prescriber who had a LOT of independent recommendations. She took a lot of time and care to get it exactly right.

I also had some filler in my cheeks to lift my face a bit. It doesn't look fake though my husband (who hadn't wanted me to get it done) said I look "perked up" and a friend said I looked "smilier" . I'm really happy with that too.

Smitherss · 28/06/2024 08:24

I'm 31 and had it for forehead lines. Mine was really bad due to genetics. I've had them since being a teen, we all have them in my family. It also made my brows even as one was lower than the other. It took me years to decide to get it as I was very against it. You can't tell I've had it at all as it just looks natural. No shiny head or anything.

But you're assuming other deeper lines won't appear, which they will do as you age. Or when the fine lines that don't bother you become more prominent. Are you saying you won't then have those areas done?

Deep lines around my eyes/mouth etc in my 50s will be a lot more normal though. And won’t make me look like a miserable cow either 😂

3peassuit · 28/06/2024 08:36

Rather than Botox, start using tret in your thirties. Used correctly and along with an spf, it helps keep the lines at bay without the alien look that can sometimes happen with injectables.

migrainagain · 28/06/2024 09:04

I only use sunscreen or moisturiser.
But if botox works for you then go for it.
Some it works well others look awful the same as fillers.
Ive never been a fan of either and not something id want to do.

DJSteves · 28/06/2024 10:18

Has it twice in my 11's I can't be arsed to maintain it at the moment.

Slattern77 · 28/06/2024 10:22

It’s all very well for people to poo poo Botox - but it is brilliant and people age differently. I had a terrible few years and looked haggard, was so unhappy. Botox is subtle and gave me my confidence back. I say go for it!

Back21970 · 28/06/2024 10:33

I find forehead Botox does make my eyes more hooded and smaller so also interested in maybe looking at getting it for lifting my eyes.

I do hate the very smooth ‘alien’ look though and that was why I stopped getting it and only get my crows feet done now.

I go a couple of times a year and it’s £79 because it’s just one area, so quite affordable.

People are definitely overdoing it, I can spot a lot of Botox a mile off and don’t necessary think it always looks better.

Try it but don’t get carried away would be my advice.

Fiftyfiveandcounting · 28/06/2024 17:36

@TaylorBrown I had Botox this morning just on my deep eye wrinkles. I look just like me just slightly refreshed and rested. I’m pretty sure no one will notice I look any different but I feel more confident in myself. It will only last a few months and I probably won’t do it again till next summer but if you want to try it just do it. I’ve not done anything irreversible or added filler to my face and most importantly it’s no ones business but mine😁

charitynamechange · 28/06/2024 18:26

People are generally very polite and won't say 'Ooooo have you had Botox?!'. They are far more likely to say 'Gosh have you been on holiday? You look well'. So be careful folks when you think people don't notice.

Bridgertonne · 28/06/2024 18:31

I didn’t start until I was 50 and I get it twice a year and am happy with the results.
I started filler when I was around 47 or 48 and get it once a year in various places. For example jowls and cheeks one year, fine lines above the lips the next year.

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/06/2024 18:35

Another in the It’s Brilliant camp. Subtle, makes my face look a bit fresher and less tired. Sorts out the asymmetry (eyebrow lower on one side) by an illness. Worth every penny

Why so mean? Why was OP trying to be clever?

Voltefarce · 28/06/2024 18:45

I’m 42 and have been having Botox since 30. I think it’s brilliant. Started by just having my “11” done (I frown a lot) and now have forehead and round my eyes. Don’t have enough to completely immobilise.

When I started, I found that I had fewer headaches (I think because it physically prevented me from frowning).
