At 9pm on a school night. Live in a terraced house. Kids trying to get to sleep but balmy night anyway. What do you think?

I think it’s fine . If you work full time then sometimes jobs have to be done in the evenings .
kids will sleep through most noises .

Beautifulbythebay · 26/06/2024 21:08

I used to hoover when dc were in bed.. Never flinched!!

alwaysraining123 · 26/06/2024 21:08

Okay thanks, though maybe an arguement for the prosecution- he’s been outside since 5pm doing quiet jobs 🙄

BestZebbie · 26/06/2024 21:10

Fine as long as he packs it away before 10pm - he has probably been waiting weeks for the rain to stop to get it done, then been at work all day, made/eaten tea, possibly put his own kids to bed, and is only now able to get down to it.

Edit: After your update, yeah, fair, he could have started at 5pm!

alwaysraining123 · 26/06/2024 21:10

They are still awake! Not sure if its the heat or noise.

OP posts:
alwaysraining123 · 26/06/2024 21:10

They don’t have kids

TooLateForRoses · 26/06/2024 21:11

Fine if it stops by 10

alwaysraining123 · 26/06/2024 21:11

I’ll wait until 10pm and then get my own pressure washer out - should get him back inside! 😶‍🌫️

It's been too hot to do anything too manual til now

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 26/06/2024 21:13

I think it's not acceptable on a school night if there are children living near. Ditto mowing the lawn at 9pm or cutting your hedge or mending your fence. Whatever your hours of work there are no circumstances in the course of a week or fortnight which force you to do noisy outside jobs at 9pm.

Johnhasalongmoustache · 26/06/2024 21:13

Not everyone cares about your kids

Clearly not. We wouldn’t do it though out of consideration for others.

Up til 10pm on a school night, 11pm Fri and Sat are fair game for outside noise unfortunately.

Londonrach1 · 26/06/2024 21:18

I understand, had similar with neighbour and some game they playing in the evening...I popped over today said I was totally unreasonable here as its before 10pm but I'm struggling to get dd down in this hot weather and wondered if they not play the game in the garden from 8.30-9. they so lovely and didn't realize how noisy it was...they didn't tonight and dd is asleep so we now hopefully get to school without her being too tried. Very grateful. Talk to them ...they might not know how noisy it is but they totally allowed to do it at this time

alwaysraining123 · 26/06/2024 21:19

It’s obviously worse because we have all our windows open trying to cool the house down.

Annoying. Kids might sleep through most noises but if they're not asleep yet then it's a different story IME. Pressure washing a yard is hardly manual as the washer does all the work. But what are you going to do? Ask him to stop? Tell him it's a huge waste of water and keeping the kids awake? Is he reasonable and considerate or more likely to tell you to fuck off?

Perhaps the quiet jobs needed the ground to be dry so he didnt tramp wet all over the place going in and out. Not really for you to dictate in what order he does jobs.

I'd rather a houseproud neighbour that someone who lets their property go to wrack and ruin

garlictwist · 26/06/2024 21:23

My neighbour is playing the drums with the windows open. I am trying to read in the garden and I feel incandescent with rage! (But too English to do anything about it).

Shut your windows then if the noise is a problem.

They don't have to care to be considerate.

Milkmani8 · 26/06/2024 21:23

Depends if it is keeping your children awake. My neighbours didn’t like it last weekend when I pressure washed on a Saturday at 11am, they were trying to enjoy their garden and had done all their jobs in the week - they’re retired, I work full time 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve got a noisy old desk fan on at the moment that’s pretty offensive sounding but luckily my son is asleep next to it.

That is noise pollution, would drive you mad. We've one thinks he's Jimi Hendrix. I am here to tell him that he is not.

If he carries on get your kids to scream and play loudly in your garden at 7am on Sunday...

I’m not really the sort to complain directly to a neighbour (just like moaning). I can’t help feeling living next to us is much more annoying for him! I’m also weighing up how big his backyard is and how much longer he can realistically be!

I don’t know what is worse. It’s hard to hear anything over the pressure washing
