To think this tickle in my throat could be an Allergic reaction??!

Making dinner for the kids - spag bol - and adding a drizzle of honey to the sauce, I ran my finger round the rim of the jar to save any annoying runs of honey down the side, popped it into my mouth and within seconds felt like I had something in the back of my throat, causing me to cough constantly and so violently I actually threw up!

Was actually pretty panicked for a good 10 minutes or so - kept sipping warm water but it wasn't going away, felt like a constant tickling sensation and was so bad I could barely talk. Called my sister who said straight away it sounded like an allergy but I have eaten honey my whole life!?

I haven't had it for a couple months tbh as trying to avoid refined sugars but still - could this be what it is?? It's not like I thought an allergy would be as I don't feel like my throat is closing, but if I breathe through my mouth I can barely take a breath without coughing.

It's awful!! Anyone had a similar experience?

It could well be. Allergies can start suddenly to something you have regularly eaten before (for me it’s nightshades - worst thing to be allergic to for a vegan I think!). But honey can irritate your throat. You might decide to take a cetirizine if it happens again to see if it helps, or maybe see if you react to something with honey as an ingredient but not neat?

Take an antihistamine. If it goes away then you have your answer. You probably have a bee pollen allergy. This means you should never have any products with Propolis. (Or honey) This includes skincare. I would speak to your GP about what happened and ask about bee stings, etc. Do you get hayfever? Might be related.
