What is the stale pong in my house?

I thought my house was pretty clean but it has a stale smell. I’ve just realised I hadn’t cleaned the extractor fan filter and it was filthy so that is now sorted. I’ve also cleaned sofas / throws etc.

We don’t have carpet but we do have a rug I should clean - any idea what with?

and what other hidden things could be creating a stale pong?

how do you get your house smelling super fresh?

Are you saying the smell I still lingering despite the deep clean?

Could it be hidden mould or damp? I'd check behind big furniture

I've just had to clean my plug/drain thing in the sink as I could also smell something.

It's now gone.

Shoes are always the culprit on this house. Sadly I have inherited my dads sweaty feet.

The warmer weather means pongs are more obvious

Oh god, you've just triggered a memory of leaving a bag of potatoes at the back of a cupboard and forgetting about them whilst going on holiday.

I've not got a weak stomach, but I was gagging at the smell when opening the door... thought something had died in the house.

Rugs seem to smell here after a few months (pets). We shampoo with a carpet cleaner and shake n vac regularly. Also dettol does a carpet antibacterial thing that helps, nothing beats a wash though.

If you happen to have more than one shower / bath and one is not being used in warm weather the water in the trap can evaporate and smell just run tap / shower for a bit

Open the windows. Shoes in a cupboard.

I've heard one about spraying watered down fabric softener on the radiators but probably not much use at the moment!

The little drain at the back of the fridge blocked?
