For feeling awful about throwing away this letter?

Just received a letter through the post (addressed to us, not by name - just address) from a Linda. She's a Jehovah's Witness and is wanting to spread the word.
It's handwritten, and postage has been paid so I would imagine she's gone to a lot of time, effort and expense to send all these letters out.
I have zero interest at all in what the letter or enclosed leaflet say, but feel awful at the idea of throwing it away!
Am I being a fanny? Or would you also feel a bit of guilt - like it's akin to spitting at poor old Linda in the street?! 😅

If hell exists there's a special place in it for JWs such as the one who messaged me through Facebook especially to tell me that my late DP was punished by God via cancer because of his Gothic style. And went on to basically tell me that unless I welcomed Jesus into my life I would lose everything and die alone.

I am a very live and let live tolerant person as a rule. However. Even I have my limits.

@MistressoftheDarkSide

I'm sorry someone did that, it's utterly disgusting!!

I'm not one bit religious, but I didn't think that was the JW 'style'

@aperolspritzbasicbitch

I had a few over covid when they weren't able to go door knocking, to meet their quota I suppose. Definitely hand written & so so beautifully. I came across them in some paperwork the other day, still couldn't bring myself to throw them out 🙇🏻‍♀️ they're just so beautiful.

Shame it's (IMO) a load of tripe!!

TeaGinandFags · 26/06/2024 16:12

Invite Linda to your next BDSM orgy.

Be clear about the fact that a goat will be sacrificed in honour of Satan.

Linda will then never write to you again.

Guitarstringscar · 26/06/2024 16:13

We get them regularly from the JW cult. We just bin them and feel no guilt whatsoever.

zingally · 26/06/2024 16:15

I've had a couple over the years. Zero quibbles about throwing them away. I've no interest in joining your cult Linda - you've wasted your money.

rainfordays · 26/06/2024 16:15

Bin it! The ones sent round our village said the writer was lonely and if you were too, here's the number to call for a chat.

It's a manipulative marketing tactic, bin it and never think about it again.

Bordersgarage · 26/06/2024 16:24

Of course it would be unreasonable to throw it away. You should become a Jehovah’s Witness immediately.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 26/06/2024 16:24

It's in the bin!

I had no interest in making contact with her or anything, the only alternative to binning it would have been leaving it in a drawer somewhere to eventually be used as a piece of scrap paper.

I was feeling bad as they still knock around here as standard, so I envisioned poor Linda to be an elderly/frail woman, unable to spread the words she feels the need to spread on foot, so instead spends hours hunched over a desk writing letter instead. But, someone said up thread that she's sent the letter, her obligation is fulfilled, so she's happy regardless of what I do with it.

It was 100% handwritten.

Also, @ginasevern - yup, Pisces.

JWs are an evil cult, so I wouldn't feel guilty......

Just bin it. I was a carer for a couple that did this. Literally every day.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 26/06/2024 16:29

I get these.
When the used to knock the door I'd shut in their face.
I bin the letters.
Keep your religion to yourself Linda

Waffle78 · 26/06/2024 16:30

I got these over lockdown and know a few others who did as well. Went straight in the bin. Had 1 at a holiday home we stayed in as well. To let us know about meeting at a church in another village 🤣🤣🤣 Addressed dear holiday maker now that's weird. Fuck knows how they knew it was a holiday home. On the plus side we've not had them knocking at our door.

Scruffily · 26/06/2024 16:31

If someone sends me a letter for their own benefit which I haven't asked for, I feel absolutely zero guilt in throwing it away. I can't for the life of me see why anyone would feel guilty about that.

Rubyupbeat · 26/06/2024 16:32

@HauntedCosmos
Of course they are Christians, they follow the word of Christ and Jehovah (God) probably more Christian than a lot of the big churches, as they practice what they preach.
No, I am not a Jehovah's Witness, I am a Christian though and know the bible very well.

Demonhunter · 26/06/2024 15:41

All the meanies on here. I think you should frame and treasure it, after all the trouble Linda has gone to, writing you a personal letter. Get a lovely God frame for it and put it high above, on the living room wall 😇

Edited

A God frame! 😂😂😂
Didnt Billy conelly call them Fuck offs. Because every time his mum opened the door to them she shouted it at them? 😂

Groovee · 26/06/2024 16:36

They just mass produce them.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 26/06/2024 16:36

Not one ounce of guilt, OP.

😧 That's foul. I am sorry for your loss. 💐
I'm a Goth, Goths are generally the nicest bunch of people you'll ever meet. But JWs don't seem to like us, which is fine by me!
I go to church, the people there are generally lovely and never made me feel lesser for the way I dress. I've had a few odd conversations, but nothing major.

OldTinHat · 26/06/2024 16:40

I returned the letter I had back to the return 'hall' packed full of glitter.

HighOnMaiden · 26/06/2024 16:43

I had one with a return envelope a few years ago. In it, it was going on about how they wanted to help the community through God etc.
I used the return envelope and replied telling them that perhaps a better way of helping the community would be to donate to the food banks rather than wasting ££'s on stamps to send unsolicited crap to my home.

Never had another.

You are a massive Fanny. I've had several of these and they go straight into the recycling! It's no different to any other unsolicited mail!

Toss without a thought

TopEndChops · 26/06/2024 16:46

I'm a postie, a while back we had a bunch come through where they had forgotten to put a stamp on. So I had to take out grey cards to a whole street informing them they had an item with insufficient postage and if they wanted to receive it they needed to pay £1.50 or whatever it was back then.
I told the ones who were nice what it was, but the arseholes, ì let them find out for themselves.

They spend such a long time writing these letters by hand, addressing them, and paying for postage.

Because they are brainwashed. And they want to brainwash you.

Throw it away, for sure.

Yougotwhatstuckwhere · 26/06/2024 16:47

The very rare occasion they've knocked my door they don't seem keen to make an effort .... must be my tattoos and facial piercings that put them off 😁
But letters definitely binned.
Political begging letters also go in the bin. If they can't be arsed to knock my door they can bog off.

Prawncow · 26/06/2024 16:47

They say they’re Christian but they don’t believe in the Holy Trinity.
