I'm really not sure what to do and have a husband that says 'it's up to you, I don't mind'. We have 3 children, youngest is only 8 months old and I work part time. We currently run two cars & mine always needs something done. As it stands, it needs a new passenger window regulator, there's a knocking sound coming from underneath, my offside brake bulb has gone again less than 12 months after we replaced the whole light unit & my electric handbrake has started making a strange snapping sound when disengaging.
It's a 13 year old Renault grand scenic we've owned for 3 years & last year we paid £400 in repairs to pass the mot then two weeks later the exhaust fell off which was another 300.
I've been toying with the idea of scrapping the car and subsequently leaving my PT job as it feels too costly to maintain. I'm also planning on starting an accounting qualification within the next couple of months which will hopefully put me into a better job/financial position in the near future.
Would I be mad to get rid of this money pit car?! I know I'd miss not having access to one but we can't afford another on finance & I hate having to ask family to borrow money so we can fix it. I don't really need my job, getting there via public transport wouldn't really work, I just can't keep thinking the car needs xyz and we can't afford it!
