1 month wait for a GP appointment for a suspicious mole - AIBU to worry that I should be seen sooner?

I noticed a mole that I want checked by the GP, I was asked to submit a photo which I did and then got a phone call around a week later offering an appointment for the next day. I unfortunately couldn't make that appointment so had to ask for an alternative appointment and I have now been given an appointment for the end of July.

AIBU to worry that I should be seen sooner or will it be ok? I did ask if that was the earliest appointment and they said yes. I know our NHS is stretched and they can't just magic an appointment out of thin air.

You can't be that worried if you refused the appointment they offered you.

ScaredAndPanicky · 26/06/2024 10:58

They gave you a quick appointment
You turned it down.
They have given you an appointment that you can plan into your diary.

Ok thank you. I unfortunately couldn't make the appointment as I was away with work and wouldn't able to get home to make it for a 9am appointment the next day but I understand

Do you think if I ring tomorrow morning when they open they might have other a sooner appointment available? It already took a week to hear back from my initial request for an appointment so by the time I will get seen by the GP it will be quite a few weeks of waiting (and I know they they will almost definitely refer me to dermatology under the 2 week wait as I've had a referral before and this mole meets the same criteria).

I'd ring again tomorrow.

As somebody who has actually had melanoma, I would have prioritised a Dr's appt over work. You could always pay privately to get it checked if you don't want to wait.

Doubledded123 · 26/06/2024 21:24

Go private tomorrow, you might have cancer

Health always trumps work. It's obvious

God some of these replies are harsh. If you physically weren’t at home, then you couldn’t make the appointment. Keep trying for another appointment OP, and I hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

KreedKafer · 26/06/2024 21:27

If it does turn out to be melanoma, it’s unlikely to significantly worsen in a month.

If you were referred before email the pic to the consultant secretary giving your hosp number
