Found out I didn’t get the job from social media

There was an internal job going in work and various people applied.

On Friday I noticed I had a missed call from my manager from the day before at 5.30, I had logged off just before 5 so didn’t see the call. Then due to various meetings and work I had to do it just slipped my mind to call him back.

i went onto Facebook after I finished work on Friday and seen a post that my colleague had been given the job and realised that was why my manager had called me.

AIBU to be annoyed to have found out from Facebook or was it my own fault for not calling my manager back?

he said he left me a voicemail but I didnt get the notification for the voicemail and no further attempt was made to try and contact me on the Friday.

Any job I've worked it it's normal for there to be a period between being told you've been promoted and it being announced. Whilst I agree you hear some responsibility for not calling the manager back, it's pretty poor form to find out this way. What's not clear is who did something wrong - was the colleague told not to tell and told anyway, did the colleague not get told anything, or were they told ages ago and assumed you'd have been informed by now. Personally in a contested promo I wouldn't be announcing on social media or mentioning it at work until it was formally announced by work just because of this sort of thing.

You are not a victim in this situation.

They attempted to contact you, you didn't prioritse responding and then found out through a personal SM post.

The company/manager did nothing wrong here.
