Neighbour trimmed the tree that hangs over in to her garden......but

She chucked all the bits she trimmed over in to my garden

Is this normal?

I don't mind her trimming it - trees grow - but I'm pissed off that she threw it all over in to my garden

Totally normal

Prettypengu · 23/06/2024 18:53

I do the same to my neighbor. They should keep their garden under control

MissMoneyFairy · 23/06/2024 18:56

I offered to ask our gardener to trim the ndn side, they said no they would do it themselves, they cut the overhangs and chucked them back into my garden so I ended up paying twice for disposal.

MumblesParty · 23/06/2024 18:56

ellyo · 23/06/2024 16:12

Yes she should offer and not just throw them over, but if I were you I also wouldn't expect my neighbour have to take on the job of disposing them as well as having to trim them. Personally I'd be grateful she dealt with the overhang and just dispose of them myself

This.
She’s done you a favour by doing a job that was technically your responsibility. So unless you want her summoning you over to cut the tree every time a single twig overhangs, I’d just deal with the cuttings yourself.

why does your idea of a "garden under control" wins over someone who just like trees?

If you don't like gardens, don't live in a property surrounded by them? It's not hard.

Rosscameasdoody · 23/06/2024 18:57

Completely normal. My neighbour has apple trees up against our dividing fence. Every year there is overhanging greenery. We trim and throw in our green bin, but if we choose we could take it round to neighbour for disposal.

No you couldn't.

Fuck me why are people still clueless.

@Bunnyasmyname

All according to the OP! How does she know how much light it blocks?
It is still overhanging the neighbours. And annoys the neighbour so much that she went to the effort to clear it back.
Well of course according to the OP. Are we now making stuff up instead of dealing with the issue as outlined by the OP? That's weird.
I'm pretty sure the OP is fully capable of knowing which direction the sun travels relative to the houses. It's hardly rocket science.

There are crazy neighbours you know. The tree may well have been nicely shaped and maintained as the op states and a crazy neighbour might still have a problem.

The fact that they've hacked what was a shaped and trimmed tree into a weird shape and yeeted the debris into the OPs garden suggests the neighbour is hardly reasonable. So it's not a far stretch to imagine they may be a bit unreasonable in all regards.

Deary me. If it’s their tree, yes you can

No, you cannot.

BrutusMcDogface · 23/06/2024 19:13

I trimmed my neighbour’s tree and got rid of the clippings. I had no idea i was supposed to offer them back! How absurd.

Deebee90 · 23/06/2024 19:15

Cut your trees so they don’t overhang then. I’ve had to do my sodding neighbours trees and bushes today as it’s forever in my garden. But I’ve binned it all in my bin.

dunkdemunder · 23/06/2024 19:15

@DaughterNo2

why
Because a reasonable neighbour would ya know, use words and communicate. Not hack away at a tree leaving it in a disfigured shape and flinging the debris over the fence.
That's hardly the behaviour of a reasonable neighbour.

ruffler45 · 23/06/2024 19:16

Based on recent coversation with a professional gardener, throwing them over the garden fence is now deemed to be fly tipping (which is an offence) and he does not do it.

dunkdemunder · 23/06/2024 19:17

@Likewhatever

It isn’t you know. It says that anything that stems from the tree is the property of its owner and therefore must be offered to the owner. It isn’t very clear on what to do if the owner declines to accept them.
Don't you understand what 'offer' means?
Obviously if the owner refuses the offer it's your responsibility to deal with the debris. How is this confusing?

Gettingbysomehow · 23/06/2024 19:18

Its the law sadly, they have to return all of the tree that they cut off so it's not unreasonable, even if its annoying.

Another2Cats · 23/06/2024 19:18

BreakfastOfWaffles · 23/06/2024 18:48

Mine knocks on my door and says "the tree man is coming on Monday, would it be OK for him to come round your side and trim?". And I let him in.

Unfortunately, there are all sorts of weirdos out there (both tree owners and neighbours) who are nowhere near as civilised as you and your neighbour.

I speak from experience.

Scunnered123 · 23/06/2024 19:18

She's fly-tipping. It happens to me too. It annoys me so much I'm almost tempted to throw back all of their hedge trimming into their garden. After all, it's not my hedge ...

Gah stooop. They don't have to return it. They have to OFFER it back. The owner can reject the offer.

You are incorrect, it is not the law. It is the law to "offer" the cuttings, not to take it upon yourself to dump them in the owner's garden.

It's not the law. The prunings have to be offered. RTFT FFS

There was an article a few years ago where a neighbour cut all the 'overhanging' tree.
It left the tree looking quite ridiculous. Especially on the neighbours side. They have left themselves with an eyesore. They now look at an ugly mess.

People on here saying the OP should have maintained the tree so it didn't overhang at all would presumably have preferred it if the tree owner had done this.

Personally I think most people would be pissed off if they were left an eyesore like this. I think most people would have preferred the neatly shaped tree. But I may be wrong. Maybe people would be happier having the ugly dead looking cut side of tree

We are off to see downtown soon ( highclere castle) and we're thinking of calling in at Christchurch on the way back , is it still nice , I hvnt been since a child ? If not where else in the new forest area would you recommend ?

Not clueless, and thank you for insulting my intelligence. My neighbour is aware that there is overgrowth and has offered to take the cuttings, so we know we could take them round and they would dispose of them. According to the law we’re obligated to offer back to them before we dispose of them. Failing to do so is an offence. If your neighbour doesn't want the cuttings, then you are responsible for getting rid of them.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 23/06/2024 16:13

I’d just throw them back over her fence.

This. She can’t just chuck cuttings onto your property.
