Cheeky to order room service or not?

I’m babysitting in a 5 star hotel (live abroad, I’m a teacher and babysitting on the side pays well)
Lovely family, just put baby down, the mum texted and said to make yourself comfortable etc and help myself to anything, but that as they’d just arrived, don’t have anything really and to feel free to order something to be sent up (assuming that would go on their bill?)
Been here since 6, will be here for 6 hours, should have brought some snacks really but was sorting out my own Dd before I left and no time to nip to the shop on the way,

I’m hungry, but that’s cheeky right?

Would you order or no?

@AmelieTaylor Calm down. It’s not beyond me just don’t know if it’s cheeky

Don't be rude. I don't need to 'calm down' you need to behave like a sensible adult. She told you to order something up as they didn't have anything 'in'.

just choose something tasty (but not expensive) and tell us what you're having. All the better if it comes with chips!! (I low carb, so eating vicariously!!)

But do you think they meant on their bill? I don’t have my card and only €15-20 in my wallet, that won’t be enough. Imagine if she meant for me to pay for myself 🙈how embarrassing

Yes of course that's what they meant. She said 'feel free' - wouldn't have said that if she was wanting you to pay. As others have said, don't go overboard and no alcohol obviously ( as you're babysitting), but yes, of course.

It is NOT being cheeky to do as she said!!

Itsanotherworldisntit · 21/06/2024 20:29

😂Why does no one feel the same as me about this, I must be so uptight

OP posts:
StainlessSeal · 21/06/2024 20:30

If I were the mum I would honestly want you to! I think she wants you to be comfortable - a happy sitter means good care. Order yourself something to eat and drink.

Epidote · 21/06/2024 20:31

Order something. Don't abuse ordering super expensive stuff but get a decent meal.

Itsanotherworldisntit · 21/06/2024 20:31

Now i’m even paranoid as I looked in top bedside drawer things for the menu
I am uptight

OP posts:
PossumintheHouse · 21/06/2024 20:33

Can't you just ask them?

ReceptionTA · 21/06/2024 20:35

I used to be a nanny, and there were lots of times I put things on my own card (even things for the DC) but in this instance I would order a light meal.

Morningsiesta · 21/06/2024 20:39

Just call reception and ask.

Of course she meant on their bill. She wouldn’t need to give permission if you were expected to pay for yourself.

EscapeTheCastle · 21/06/2024 20:45

I really want to know what's on the menu. I'm also thinking about Kevin in Home Alone 2 ordering lots if food in the Plaza Hotel.

Viviennemary · 21/06/2024 20:46

She said order something. Obviously she meant for them to pay. Why would you need her permission to order and pay your self. It would be daft. Just order a drink and snack if you want to and put it on the room bill.

Itsanotherworldisntit · 21/06/2024 20:47

Ok so going to pass, cheapest thing on there is €17 and it’s basically hummus, cucumber and pita bread, can’t justify it 🙈feels like piss taking.

OP posts:
LadeOde · 21/06/2024 20:47

@OP do you seriously think the mum was giving you permission to order something from your own bank account??? you really think this is what they meant?

Tillslag · 21/06/2024 20:49

OMG woman, order a club sandwich or something. It's a 5star hotel, the parents are not counting pennies.

Itsanotherworldisntit · 21/06/2024 20:49

@LadeOde No, but it’s so pricey for what it is

Unbelievable. Honestly. They can afford a 5 star hotel and told you to order food.

Itsanotherworldisntit · 21/06/2024 20:50

@Tillslag Club sandwich is twenty odd 🙈

OP posts:
Differentstarts · 21/06/2024 20:50

Take a photo of the menu we will pick you something reasonable

JMSA · 21/06/2024 20:51

Just call reception fgs. You're scaring me! You're a teacher and you've been left in sole charge of a baby. This shouldn't be beyond you!!

How unnecessarily rude.

Honestly, from the message she sent it honestly sounds like she's saying call took service, she realises she's left you no snacks, 6 hours is a long time, order a pizza, toaster, sandwich and side etc something like that, a drink too and don't sweat it. Then thank her and say you appreciate the offer and have ordered something - enjoy!

Morningsiesta · 21/06/2024 20:51

Club sandwich. Yum.

Everything in a 5 star hotel is pricey for what it is.

As well as 17 euro for hummus and pittas, they'll probably add on an extra five as a 'tray charge' for bringing it up to you.

Itsanotherworldisntit · 21/06/2024 20:51

@Differentstarts Cheapest and smallest thing (under starters) is the hummus, so basically a bit of bread & dips.
