Or is there some and I’m missing it? I’ve been searching online for ages but not found anything.

Trigger In an effort not to discriminate - my weight gain is because of medical issues. Endocrine tumour, steroids, PCOS just to name a few. I lost lots of weight through starving myself to fit the norm & it piled on so any comments regarding weight please be mindful*

I broke a chair (the mesh type one) and basically feel mortified. My bum & ego are bruised 😂
I can’t go in direct sun/daylight, so the evenings myself & DC like to have supper and time outside whilst it’s cooler. I don’t want to have to stop that just because, well basically I’m fat.

God there are some horrible comments here. I'm fat, 20 stone. I tried bloody hard not to be, my whole life is an endless roundabout of feeling ugly/worthless/hungry at the moment. Being fat is miserable. Then you come on MN and some of the comments are just designed to make you worse!

There is furniture out there OP, it just takes some finding.

It’s awful, some just like to attack for a hobby I think!

Im so sorry you’ve had those feelings, I completely empathise. I feel like I’m being stared at and hate myself so it’s horrible to imagine others have those feelings that you’ve mentioned 😔

Your issue may be medical but let’s be honest, that’s a small number of people who can use that reason. The majority are just fat because they eat too much and are sedentary. I think it’s dangerous to start shaping the world around severely overweight people.

You think its dangerous to let fat people do more, take part in life more?

What, because the rest of the world might 'catch' fatness?

I'd argue that not taking part, staying in, hiding away is far more likely to result in people putting on weight, developing the mental health issues that often go alongside obesity, than being inclusive!

User weight limits on things are generally down to 'we just couldn't be bothered to test it to a higher weight limit', its a cost saving exercise, not a 'there is no demand' and not a 'its better for the nation if we don't encourage obesity thing'.

Did you realise, most gym equipment has a pretty low max user weight, home stuff is rarely over 15st, professional stuff more like around 19st?

Meaning its even harder, even before you add in that plus size clothing whilst more available than it was 20 years ago is still pretty poor...

How are us despicable fatties meant to get out there, get mentally and physically healthy with nothing to wear, no exercise gear, nothing to sit the fuck down on?

This!!

I went to do some jump excersise thing on mini trampolines and was told in front of everyone that I couldn’t participate as I looked over the max weight limit the small trampoline could handle!

I always think you can get a very good measure of a person on how they discuss weight. Racism and all of the other ism's are socially unacceptable and for very good reason - it's not on. But there's still a ton of halfwit fat shamers out there just using up the air Confused

This is true.

I’ve been all kinds of different sizes and the treatment I’ve had from friends/strangers weather unbiased or not, are remarkably different!

You know PCOS doesn’t cause weight gain? They go hand in hand, both caused by the same root cause = insulin resistance.

PCOS is known as type 4 diabetes (type 3 being dementia).

Get yourself low carb and save your money on what would no doubt be a massively overpriced piece of furniture!

PCOS makes it much more difficult to keep weight down!

What about my endocrine tumour that regulates many of my body functions? Having to live with not being in control of simple things.
Can you even imagine what it’s like to gain weight even though I count my calories? All whilst trying not to go back to starving myself.
Many medics involved in my care talk about my weight gain. I’ve many other conditions too.
The looks of disgust & comments I get from people make me so insecure.

Even if it wasn’t caused by that, there’s many reasons people are overweight such as trauma, mental health. Just because someone is outside the normal BMI they shouldn’t be berated.

I genuinely applaud those who can keep their weight under control and envy them secretly.
But please be mindful. I’d like to think humans treat each other equally!

Please don't let some dicks online upset you. Y'know what, weight may be lost but their nastiness will remain.

I got metal garden furniture from made.com a few years back, because it gets stored in the garden out of season and 'D'H smokes in there 😡so it would have been stinking. I wanted rattan!! I don't know if you can still get it - I think Next took made on? - but it was sturdy and came in a few lovely colours. Mine is teal. It matches the decor in my living and dining rooms lol - carrying on the theme outdoors, go me!! 😄

If someone has a medical condition that causes them to lose weight, no one lectures them about it. So why is it seen as ok to do so if someone has a medical condition that causes them to put on weight?

StamppotAndGravy · 27/06/2024 07:17

Nice though it looks, I would avoid wicker. It holds moisture between the strands, even the plastic stuff, so it degrades really quickly so second hand is high risk. The frames are normally not sturdy because the wicker covers it so you can't see how shoddily they're built. I'm not heavy and have fallen through several over the years! The wider ones are worst because the frame doesn't go across the middle of the seat so there's a lot of fragile woven bit with no structural support.

Sorry you're getting a rough time. Some people need to go sit in their gardens and get out of their caves! They'd feel much better for some daylight

Disturbia81 · 27/06/2024 09:09

I don't know why but I've been very large and very slim in my life and the times I have broken beds/chairs by sitting on them have been when I've been slim. Maybe I've sat down more vigorously because I think it won't break? And it's the sudden force that does it rather than weight?

Thank you - I don’t know why I bite or take it to heart, I should’ve learnt by now!

ooh the smoking would drive me mad personally, reminds me of ExH 🤢

Teal sounds absolutely lovely! I love that colour.
i found an absolute bargain of a rattan set on Facebook marketplace, it’s so comfy! They delivered it too and you’d never think it was second hand!
Id ordered a few of the suggestions on here too so I’ve a packed patio but least I’ve options for my fat arse 😂😂

👏 this.
It’s like we’re not believed.
I had even put how I resorted to starving myself - literally - and still had comments.

@StamppotAndGravy that’s a good point I didn’t think of! I’ve a few different varieties at home now after my shopping spree from the helpful suggestions here ha! ☀️
Love the sun comment too!

@Disturbia81 sorry but the vigorously comment made me laugh 😆

I've had the same struggle finding sturdy patio furniture that actually feels comfortable and safe. So much of it seems designed for a very specific body type, and it's frustrating.

I ended up looking at weight limits on everything before buying, but it's annoying how little info is given. There’s definitely a need for more options that are both stylish and built to last for different sizes without costing a fortune.
