DS is eight and we've allowed him to start making his own playlists on Spotify - just of random songs he likes that he's mostly picked up from being in the car with us. I've just taken a look and it's warmed my little cockles. Billy Joel, The Strokes, David Gray, Amy Winehouse, Ben Howard, The Eagles... Don't get me wrong, I'm sure in five years he'll be listening to whatever his peers do, but for now I'm so chuffed he's got his own little personal taste.

Aww that's lovely OP! My 5 year old is currently really into Michael Jackson and is obsessed with copying his moves too! She loves him! She also loves the Vamps and Andrew WK so definitely a mixed taste at the moment 😀 xxx

My DS is in his teens but his taste in music is fascinating
Oasis
Arctic monkeys
The kooks
The blossoms
Catfish and the bottle men
Morrisey
Gerry Cinnamon
Elvis to name but a few. God knows how when his dad listens to drum and bass and rave and I'm all about the boy bands 😂

Just goes to show how music connects with you on a personal level. I remember being obsessed with Toto when I was a teen but at school having to pretend I loved Take That!

And when they get in their teens you can take them to gigs! I've taken my son to Liam and Noel (separately obv) and my daughter to numerous Suede gigs.

My dad doesn't like my taste in music - we have to listen to the radio (absolute radio) when travelling because neither of us like the other people's taste in music...

My 8 year old loves “hamster on a piano” “I am a banana” “the potato song” “capybara” and “poo poo bum bum” so not sure where I’m going wrong?

Ds loves Def Leppard, Maiden, Van Halen, ACDC, Judas Priest, Johnny Cash... and has done since he was about 8. He's a rock guitarist in a metal band now. His dad, Dh is a lifelong rocker but he didn't really expose Ds to his music really, it was pure chance that they love the same.

@WinterKate he's all about the lyrics. He's forever asking me to listen to some random song I've never heard because the lyrics hit hard!
In my teens I liked a bit of indie but I've never really listened to it around him. He's going to see some of the artists he loves at a festival in a few months - unfortunately I'm not going with him!

Spotify not a thing when our DC were small, but have shared pkaylists now as adults! Love it when DC introduce us to new to us bands - DD in particular. DH loves taking our adult daughter to gigs when I don't want to go. We bought 2 pairs of Red Rum Club tickets at Christmas - DD and her boyfriend had standing, and DH and I seated.

Love being recommended books, TV programmes and podcasts too, and swapping recipes etc.

DS (17) listens to everything from Frankie Valli to ACDC and Ozzy Osborne. He introduced me to Aurora and Crawlers. He quite often listens to classical pieces on the piano when he can't sleep too.
