Boss called me an annoying snitch for complaining about my lazy co worker?

Her laziness is affecting my job.

We both clean in a restaraunt. It’s just me and her, no supervisors.
She is extremely lazy, doesn’t do her work, leaves dirt and mess in her area, leaves most of the work to me. Often sits around on her phone. When I show her the mess and dirt she leaves, she rolls her eyes. One time told me « I don’t care, shut up, you are so annoying and you are not my boss, just do it for me, and left »

Management is often angry at us on WhatsApp and often complains about the mess and dirt she leaves. We both get blamed for her lazy horrible cleaning.

I tried speaking to her a million times, she told me she doesn’t care and to stfu.

After 6 months of this and yet another angry complaint hinting they’ll fire us, I had enough and contacted the cleaning company boss, asking him to please speak to her and that the area they were angry about, was hers.

I get this message

She never blames you Kate. We do not blame each other. Snitching is gross behaviour Kate. You are both a team and should work together! You are being an annoying snitch. A tattle tale. Just disgusting behaviour from you. Stop snitching, I don’t want to hear it

That's not how men talk. Or bosses.

Maybe someone used his phone.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/06/2024 00:53

Can you set up on your own, be your own boss?

Dibbydoos · 18/06/2024 02:25

Your boss is an AH.
Your co worker is an AH.

Ask the co who employs your employer to serruptitiously come and do a review of the quality of work. They should then tell your employer to get shut of her.

Take pictures of your area and hers. if all else fails, send them to your boss then go find another job.

WiddlinDiddlin · 18/06/2024 02:50

Set up on your own.
Show the restaurant manager this message and explain you're leaving.
Leave shitty co. and do so with the minimal notice possible (double check contract and see how much is required).

Meadowfinch · 18/06/2024 04:30

Find another job and leave them in the lurch. They deserve each other.

Blueblell · 18/06/2024 06:09

Get another job! They are rediculous and I think basically saying don’t snitch and do the work she doesn’t do!

Find another job and leave

This in spades and let them deal with the work-shy coworker. They’ll realise quickly that you weren’t “snitching”, but rather trying to improve the workplace environment once they truly see what little she does once you’re not there to pick up the pieces and tidy up etc.

SmileyClare · 18/06/2024 06:55

Just set up on your own as a cleaner.

It’s so easy to do this- advertise on local social media and build up a client base in your area.

I charge £17.50 an hour and have a waiting list. There’s a shortage of good domestic cleaners- you’ll have customers queuing up.

No need to work for a shit agency who’ll take a chunk of your earnings and treat you like dirt.

Perplexed20 · 18/06/2024 07:46

It's not just the member of staff that's lazy, so is the boss.

Yellowvelvetpop · 18/06/2024 07:52

Your boss is an immature childish idiot.

Do you know what, cleaning has been undervalued for decades. There is an assumption that anyone could do it and do it well. It was always classed as women’s work so devalued and seem as lesser.

It’s not. It is skilled. To do a thorough and efficient job takes time management, strategy, attention to detail and hard physical graft.

You sound like you have the skills. You could find another job BUT have you considered starting up on your own?

Sorry you are dealing with this shit behaviour. Could they be having an affair?

Fritatayay · 18/06/2024 07:55

All these people saying leave, why should the OP leave? Just match her work ethic. If she goes on her phone, you go on yours or get out a book. Split every task and just do yours and go home. Even the bathroom, just do half and go home. Let her shit catch up with her!

Yes and people will pay that and more for a good reliable professional and friendly cleaner - they are worth their weight in gold. I would literally cry if my cleaner stops working as it’s really hard to find someone good where we are.

Also, research shows that once you are over a certain threshold, more money doesn’t make you happier, except if you outsource chores! I feel sooooooo happy after my cleaner has been. So, I think it should be higher paid for that reason alone.

It’s just that it’s a devalued skill (previously seen as women’s work and therefore lesser) and there is a view that anyone can do it. Most can do it to a certain level but a GOOD cleaner is hard to find. It actually takes strategic thinking, time management and hard physical graft (whilst being careful).

One day we will wake up and see the value. AI can’t clean!

Caiti19 · 18/06/2024 08:01

I'd move to a different agency, one with standards. I'd also explain to new agency why I'm moving job. Doing a bad job cleaning a restaurant is a health hazard for the public. Not caring about that is what's gross. I'd give the minimum amount of notice you need to leave by law. See how lazy arse gets on when there's nobody else to pick up the slack.

Cattyisbatty · 18/06/2024 08:02

The world is crying out for good, honest cleaners. Find another agency/job.
I work somewhere where our cleaner is awful, we are always getting complaints because he doesn’t do his job properly (we are not always there to see it or other staff don’t mention it until they get complaints). I’m not sure why my manager keeps him on but it’s not my responsibility to decide!
i also have a cleaner at home who is OK - she’s very trustworthy and reliable - and not too £££ so I’m happy for now. I have had a lot of awful cleaners in many ways which is why you won’t find it a problem getting work.

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 18/06/2024 08:04

Yeah I'd be out of there faster than a bullet.

DexaVooveQhodu · 18/06/2024 08:06

Leave.
If the employers are happy to pay money for a slob to not do any work then that's their problem. They can employ a 2nd team mate who is equally lazy and then the Health & Safety Inspectors can close down the disgustingly unhygienic restaurant.
There are many many cleaning jobs. You do not need this one.

Show the correspondence to the restaurant manager. They might keep you, but sack the cleaning company.

That's a great shout. Nothing to lose at this point if you're doing the work of 2 anyway...cleaning company don't take a pay slice...you may possibly get more money. If they say no you look for another job anyway. And at that point the cleaning manager would be told to fk off

I really hope this is the outcome, nothing to lose at this point!

mrscee · 18/06/2024 08:19

I'd be looking for a new job sharpish that's awful you would hope that a manager would back you up not call you a snitch!

Fingeronthebutton · 18/06/2024 08:23

I don’t believe someone who’s paying someone to do a job is notified that said person isn’t doing it defends that person. Wouldn’t happen.

Didimum · 18/06/2024 08:37

So disrespectful. Find a new job asap.

Oh trust me, it happens.

im in a similar situation in work except that it’s a group of us against the rest of the cleaning team who don’t pull their weight. Complaints are met with a stony silence and defence in favour of the slackers.

BeFrankforonce · 18/06/2024 08:59

Dripfeed coming I suspect... why aren't you answering all the questions and comments about how in demand cleaners are and how easy would it be for you to find another job?

+1 for this is hard to believe, from the "picked up" American English the boss speaks, to the content.

tamade · 18/06/2024 09:11

I presume you are working nights for a subcontractor? Sign off sick for as long as you can and during the days go around all of your customers and explain what has been going on and how you could do better on your own. Get your own company started with freshly poached clients.
