Have you been able to sit out in your garden yet? I'm in SE London and no, tonight is just about ok but I feel we heading towards dark nights with no let up.

NW here! We've had quite a few lovely evenings in the garden this year, just not tonight 😂

Not sat in the park once this year! This time next week the nighta will be drawing in. I can't get my head round it. Very sad.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/06/2024 21:32

No sitting out and also I have had to put my car lights on in the afternoon several times this week, which is not very midsummery.

Macaroni46 · 16/06/2024 21:36

Nope, not once. SE. Sat wrapped in a blanket most nights. Unbelievable.

It's been a horribly wet and at times downright chilly year so far. Sometimes we get a nicer second half of the year though, so there's still hope.

I'm in the Southern Hemisphere and counting down the days to solstice so the day starts lengthening again. I start work early and hate the dark mornings. This is my least favourite time of the year but I always feel better after winter solstice.

We’ve sat out every week either in the garden or under the gazebo. We’ve lit the gas fire pit a few nights because it’s been a bit chilly but I’m refusing to let the light nights go to waste. I’m diagnosed with SAD so cherish the long light days. I’m really hoping the sun shines much more for the rest of the summer!

We really need some dry days to dry our fields out.

I'm also in the Southern Hemisphere, but I'm not sure I agree with you. While it's good to see it getting lighter winter solstice also means the weather is about to get colder, which I hate.

MariaLuna · 17/06/2024 04:34

I'm pissed off with this weather. Wait all winter for now and we get this.....

I also hate the colder weather, but I'm in Perth where it doesn't really get properly cold (except at night). Although people here wear ski gear if it drops below 20! I do get bored with the rain in winter though (and I know the farmers need it). Basically I just want it to be spring again, I hate winter, even the short relatively warm Westralian one, and lighter mornings is at least a start.

We're in the South of England and we've been able to sit out occasionally in the evenings and had a few warm days. It's been a lot colder and wetter this year though. We were in Cornwall around this time last year and it was hot and sunny.

Lucky you! I'm in the South Island of NZ and it gets cold here over winter. I wouldn't mind if we had snow, but we hardly ever see it here now (except on the mountains).
