I just got back from my dads and his partner asked me about brother and grandparents....
My grandma likes to go round telling people I don't text, dont visit, dont invite her to my house(not sure why she needs an invite to mine but i can turn up at hers). But she also doesn't. Infact recently she has ignored my messages.
My dads partner told me I should text again and go round myself. But I feel like all my family relationships are one sided, if I don't go round they don't see me. No one comes to my house. No one visits on my birthday, they personally post cards through my letter box but don't knock.

I have family like this, if I don’t keep in contact/visit, then I’m out of sight and mind. I don’t chase them anymore and have found these two sayings quite apt. Still hurts though.

Now that you have seen the dynamic you can change it.

Re: your grandma - I would respond along the lines of “yes, it’s funny she keeps saying that, she knows I text her just this Wednesday and that my door’s always open. Maybe she’s getting forgetful.”

The road runs both ways.
The older I got the greater I expected reprocosity in all my relationships.
I feel under zero obligation to visit those whom feel under no obligation to share the contact load.
It feels good.

This is how I feel. But then I constantly get told that I should be going here and there.
