NEXT plc accusing me of fraud

Dontbeabitterlemon · 15/06/2024 12:58

Bought 9 pairs of sandals online, sent all but 1 pair back. Now Next are saying 4 boxes were empty when received. Bizarrely they refunded me for these 4 but not the other 4 and have sent me an email demanding that I cover the cost of these shoes plus £35 for investigation fees.

Aibu to feel completely wronged?!

Obviously when I sent it all shoes were present and accounted for.

You do understand that free or low cost returns are not there in lieu of a change room.

Online retailers cannot cover the cost of you just trying things on.

9 pairs. You are having a laugh

You do realize that Next is perfectly capable of deciding how to run their business and have decided low cost returns will net them more money in the long run?

I won't mention how many bras I've ordered from Bravissimo...

They should have more stock in store to try on then. My nearest branch has a very limited range and popular items and sizes are rarely restocked. If you ask the staff direct you to online ordering 💁‍♀️

Ridiculous comment. NEXT are the ones who allow it for goodness sake 🙄

Can I ask if returns are a known problem with Next, and people have to buy multiple items to find one that fits..and then have the hassle of returns, why don't you just go in store to try on and buy?

I'll add I don't live in the UK and we still mostly buy in store here.

I get there is travel and parking etc but going to an actual shop sounds a lot simpler in some instances.

Because the stores have very limited range in both size and product. Most stores probably only carry about 5% of what is available online.

I didn't even think of that as a reason. It's a bit sad really, it seems gone are the days of a trip out shopping.

We still seem to be very old school here in comparison.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 17/06/2024 19:24

In person shopping has become a joke in many countries. The last time I went with a friend the perfume set I liked was cheaper online, and the shop didn't have bras in her size so she had to orde online. We were at a brand-new major shopping center and left empty-handed.

I'm having similar problems with Debenhams. I returned several bras to them via Evri, Debenhams said they received an empty package.

I'm going to have to ask the corner shop for CCTV of my husband handing over a large bag! You can't even do that, you can't prove the boxes you sent weren't empty. It sucks.

norasand · 19/06/2024 06:32

I think there are still massive problems with Evri. If I can't return any other way, I photograph or even video sealing the packaging and handing it over, but otherwise I mostly oder from shops where i can return to store and get an immediate refund/ itemised receipt, especially if its a higher value order. Sadly some returns centres also seem to have problems with theft, unfortunately.

Maleficentthemagnificent · 19/06/2024 06:39

I ordered masses of clothes and shoes recently from next. I had a job interview and was short on time to find the right fits. It was a worry to be honest until I got them all back to them as was a lot of money on my credit card. I do collect and return them in store though.
This is probably why stores like "Yours" and "long tall Sally" now have a per item return fee.

As for the investigation, fight them - you're innocent.

Dontbeabitterlemon · 19/06/2024 07:18

I am so busy working all day, then all the usual stuff with kids in evenings. This is just a massive pain the proverbial. Bloody Next. And silly me for thinking the system just worked. Feel like fool risking all that money.

If they have refunded the wrong ones, they have shot themselves in the foot ( no pun)The easiest place to start is to question why they have not issued a refund for the 4 pairs they admit they have received .

She didn’t take the piss. She did what online shopping is there for. If Next didn’t want big orders they’d say.

Why on earth would you order 9 pairs of sandals on line! No wonder businesses are starting to charge for returns

To try on

OMGsamesame · 19/06/2024 07:39

Paying an "investigation cee" sounds really odd. Have you paid it, @Dontbeabitterlemon?

Have you checked the email address it came from? Possible fraud.

Ain't that the truth? Went to M&S last Saturday to spend a gift card. There was very little in my size and I have to trudge round the shop trying to find something I like and then see if they have it in the size I want. Much easier to go online and filter what will fit.

But on the shoe front, I was buying shoes for a theatre costume - it was very last minute, the actress got cold feet, literally. I had to go and buy while she was rehearsing. She said she was a 5. I bought a 5 and picked up a 6 in case they were too tight. Nope. They were too bloody large. I needed a 4. So I needed 3 pairs.

Fortunately, I was returning in person. If it ha been online, I might have been in the same position as OP.

OP have you raised a chargeback/claim through your bank? Honestly that's the quickest way to resolve this nonsense. It will take you 10 mins on the phone to your bank.

She isn’t taking the piss at all

next could put a limit on how many things you can order but they don’t

i have recently ordered 7/8 pairs of shoes for dd, they didn’t arrive but the customer service people were very helpful and reordered them for me.
