NEXT plc accusing me of fraud

Dontbeabitterlemon · 15/06/2024 12:58

Bought 9 pairs of sandals online, sent all but 1 pair back. Now Next are saying 4 boxes were empty when received. Bizarrely they refunded me for these 4 but not the other 4 and have sent me an email demanding that I cover the cost of these shoes plus £35 for investigation fees.

Aibu to feel completely wronged?!

Obviously when I sent it all shoes were present and accounted for.

Next sandals are rarely in shoe boxes.

are you saying that the OP only has the right to "lol" as I responded to their message in kind!!!
I'll let you have the last word!!

No I just don't think any of this is lol worthy.

It's more the fact that it would look like a suspicious transaction to a retailer buying 9 pairs then sending all but 1 back. You must surely be able to see that?

It's a little excessive but not suspicious. Agree smart shoes are hard to shop for and she didn't do anything wrong.

Suspicious would be ordering one of each size in a certain shoe, and doing this regularly.
If the OP ordered 9 pairs and returned 8 regularly, like every month for years, they might have a word with her, but because they don't want to lose money because of her not because they think she's some kind of criminal.

EatCrow · 15/06/2024 17:38

fancysleep · 15/06/2024 15:52

No its not. You choose eg the 3 most likely. Then you have a chance of one of those 3 suiting. If not then you narrow down your chances of the next order being successful.

Chances are most those returns have to be discounted or destroyed

So the OP has to order three separate orders containing 3 pairs of shoes? So that would mean three separate deliveries by evri, using three lots of petrol/wages. Then three separate returns also meaning three lots of petrol/wages.

Why?

Utter nonsense, people do it all the time.

That's a strange rule you have for yourself.

Btw heeled occasion sandals won't be destroyed, it's only things of low value that might be, and more by the likes of asos and Amazon not Next.

rainbowunicorn · 15/06/2024 18:04

fancysleep · 15/06/2024 15:22

This. You should buy say 3 pairs - return those if no good then another 2 or 3 - you've just gone shoe crazy and ordered 9!

So, doubling or trebling the carbon footprint.

Minime88888888 · 15/06/2024 18:05

What the hell is up with everybody and remotely buying of 9 pairs of shoes ?

This is how it's done nowadays. Instead of walking into a shop and looking at all of the shoes on display you have to have them sent to your house.

They are not discounted ir destroyed. They are checked and if all okay they go back into stock and are sent to the next person that orders it just like they would in a shop. If not in a sellable condition when returned the original purchaser will have to pay full price.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 15/06/2024 18:07

9 pairs of sandals?! 😂

CatkinToadflax · 15/06/2024 18:16

I was once accused of shoplifting in Next. I hadn’t picked up a single item in there, not even to pick up, look at something and put it back. I was pulled over by a security guard in Oxford St, who demanded to look through my bags in the middle of a throng of Saturday morning shoppers. Funnily enough he found nothing. Didn’t even have the grace to apologise. I complained to Head Office and was sent flowers and a voucher. This was 25ish years ago - Head Office sounds like it’s a lot less nice now! Hope you get it sorted OP.

Bullshit.

If they have an issue with customers ordering 9 pairs of shoes then they should limit how much you can order.

I use Next a lot. I often order loads of things and sometimes send lots of it back, sometimes all of it.

Oblomov24 · 15/06/2024 18:31

Good god, most of these messages are silly. Op is allowed to order as many as she likes.
I ordered 4 from deichman last week.
Fight, and fight hard op.

Bigstuffypillow · 15/06/2024 18:36

I had problems with Next returns
I sent back 1 pair of sandals for £40 & kept a pair that were £22
I got a refund for £22, when I queried it they argued that I'd sent the cheaper pair back. I had to send a photo of me wearing the cheaper pair to prove I kept them!! I was made to feel like a thief! The man on the phone said he'd never heard of it happening before😏

Shan5474 · 15/06/2024 18:43

Is it really that weird to buy lots of the same thing?? I bought 12 pairs of shoes last year to find one that would fit and be comfy with a bridesmaid outfit, some of them were in more than one size. I thought that was fairly normal if you needed something specific

AlltheFs · 15/06/2024 18:44

delusionalonathursday · 15/06/2024 13:19

Why on earth would you order 9 pairs of sandals on line! No wonder businesses are starting to charge for returns

I had to order 17 pairs of shoes for my daughter to get 2 that fit. The company doesn’t limit the number.

Bigstuffypillow · 15/06/2024 18:48

Nothing wrong atall with ordering 9 pairs of shoes! Some ridiculous comments on here.

Dd bought a dress from a Next store. It wasn't suitable so she had to return it. She had the receipt. They asked her whether she was Miss X, as they claimed that this dress had been bought online (?) They wanted to credit Miss X's Next account for a dress that Dd had bought instore using her debit card, all as shown on the receipt. They eventually and reluctantly gave her a refund.

IT's because of the dratted 'personalised' tickets on clothes that are ordered online. If a shop turns around and sells them on the floor after they've been returned without changing the ticket, this is the result!

wearemodernidiots · 15/06/2024 18:57

Unfortunately, this is why I always return items to an actual store, even though it's a hassle.

It's also why I haven't ordered anything from Next in months and months, as the 2 most convenient stores for me have closed down.

HauntedPencil · 15/06/2024 19:03

I've had this with warehouse. I had to order 4 expense dresses for a wedding for a friend and I sent all back, and they claimed only 2 in the packet. I emailed trading standards and they were really helpful and I got a full refund.

DianaBarry5 · 15/06/2024 19:10

A few years ago, I waited about 8 weeks for a refund for a piece of furniture worth about £1000. Countless e mails and phone calls where hopeless until I emailed the chairman who was Lord Woolfson at the time. Money back the same day with an apology and a gift voucher.

Roadaheadclear · 15/06/2024 19:12

EatCrow · 15/06/2024 13:34

Next charge people to return items, they also charge delivery. How are they losing money? The goods ordered online are on approval.

Because they have to buy more stock to accommodate this kind of buying pattern. They either overstock or lose sales as most of their stuff is in other peoples houses being tried on. It's a huge problem
