To think you can't take a chair from someone else's table?

We're on holiday at the moment and there's evening entertainment on so I walked over with the children while H was having a shower and sat down to grab a table.
I sat where there was 4 chairs because we have are a family of 4 dh was on his way and children had got up to go to the stage floor.
A man came up grabbed one of our chairs so I politely said excuse me my husband is sitting there.
He made a joke about H being very small because he couldn't see anyone sitting there.
I then explained H was on his way and would be here shortly but he took the chair and said no love you reserve seats with bums.
Aibu to think I had grabbed a table for 4 because we're a 4 and he should not have taken our other chair?
By the time H has arrived I'd found him another chair but that's not the point he could have done that himself.

This bit here is the issue. He knew you had a use for the chair and bullied it off of you because he could.

And this bit

and said no love you reserve seats with bums.

He made a joke? No he a nasty little man and is a joke.

itsgettingweird · 15/06/2024 12:30

Well obviously you go to a table of 4 for a family of 4.

Unfortunately there is a large number of entitled pricks in this world. Sadly you happened across one.

fairysoft1 · 15/06/2024 12:45

and said no love you reserve seats with bums.

You should have sat on his lap then until his wife made him get up.

That would have been a great look for when the husband arrived.
At least he's have for a snack.

Carebearsonmybed · 15/06/2024 12:48

He was manspreading.

Demonhunter · 15/06/2024 12:49

It's fine to ask someone if the chair is being used, it's not ok to still take it when you're told it is!

OneTC · 15/06/2024 12:49

I'd be moving his chair all night

bodminbeast · 15/06/2024 12:50

At least he's have for a snack.

That was meant to say at least he would have got a smack

AhBiscuits · 15/06/2024 12:59

He was definitely out of order, what an arsehole.

Although I remember a guy by us is in a similar set up holding a huge table for his group. They didn't arrive for 3 hours!

wearemodernidiots · 15/06/2024 13:02

He was a dick.

And there's zero chance he would have spoken to you like that if you were a man. Or taken the chair.

Catopia · 15/06/2024 13:08

He was rude not to ask IMO. I'd have said he was in the loo and that by his logic no one can ever leave the table for any reason.

WimbyAce · 15/06/2024 13:11

Normally people ask if chairs are taken so he sounds a bit of a dick tbh.

Workawayxx · 15/06/2024 13:12

Very rude and I agree with the posters who have said he wouldn’t have done it to your husband. Wait till his wife/kids go to dance or to the loo and nab their chair while calling over your shoulder “you reserve seats with bums!”.

Sell123 · 15/06/2024 14:23

That is very rude. I was lying in a hospital bed once, another patient's relative decided to take my bedside chair!

MrsDTucker · 15/06/2024 10:16

I don't think someone can save 3 seats though.

But most of the time people ask. I would.

She didn’t save three seats, her kids were on the stage and obviously would return to her.

Irishmama100 · 15/06/2024 15:10

That’s awfully rude of that man. You did zero wrong. I would have been sooo cross.

DingDongWitchDingDong · 15/06/2024 10:12

"Put the chair down."

This... with crazy eyes

Thepeopleversuswork · 15/06/2024 15:17

I think his comments make him sound like a complete bellend.

But I have some sympathy with his fundamental point: people who are there get priority over people who are not there. I would have asked if you minded rather than just taking the chair but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking an unused chair.

housethatbuiltme · 15/06/2024 15:33

BlueMum16 · 15/06/2024 10:58

So you had 3 empty chairs? You can't hold seats all night for the children who are at the stage for the show.

Of course you can and everyone always does... what weird ass holidays have you been on?

The entertainment is on specifically so you can get up and join in, it doesn't mean you lose your seat/table. What a ridiculous concept as if a night out is a game of musical chairs every time someone stands up.

ButtonsB · 15/06/2024 15:36

That's how scum behave. Of course people sit down at a table and wait for others to join shortly.

Bellyblueboy · 15/06/2024 15:51

I get the rage if anyone I don’t know calls me live in that bloody patronising way😡

InSpainTheRain · 15/06/2024 16:38

The chair stealer is just showing how bad mannered he is. What a cock. Of course if someone says that another person will join them at their table you don't take the chair. Before taking a chair it's polite to say "Do you mind if I take this chair please?"

Jeannie88 · 15/06/2024 16:43

That's rude!

fetchacloth · 16/06/2024 17:41

' No love' would have caused a public fallout for me. What a prat 😡
