Well deserved

MissMoneyFairy · 14/06/2024 22:46

Congratulations

cjcghana · 14/06/2024 22:49

Despite watching (me, from afar) you can't help to wonder what he and his wife actually went through. I think he thoroughly deserves it and that our King is more astute than many people realise.

IMO they need to stop giving honours to celebrities (musicians, actors) and exclusively give them to people like Alan Bates.

Pombearprincess · 14/06/2024 22:51

Very pleased for him. Well deserved.

Irishmama100 · 14/06/2024 22:53

That is just amazing news. So well deserved 🥰

cjcghana · 14/06/2024 22:54

Absolutely.. it shouldn't be for political cronies

Brilliant news and very well deserved.

YANBU

Kendodd · 14/06/2024 23:09

Brilliant!
I heard he was offered an OBE years ago but refused while head of PO (can't remember name) still had an honour.

AllLopsided · 14/06/2024 23:19

Unreasonably happy about this, considering I don't know him. But have watched a lot of the Post Office Enquiry and he is so deserving. And yes an astute move by King Charles. I hope it helps Sir Alan further the cause.

Couldn't agree more.
Arise Sir Alan!

Excellent, i hope he gives heart to other people fighting the fight.

Can I tag on a whoop for Tracey Emin, who has been damed, if that is the word. Just listened to her on the radio and apparently she had her four years cancer free result today, so a doubly terrific day for her.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 14/06/2024 23:34

Also tagging on a whoop for Mark Cavendish!

Redglitter · 14/06/2024 23:36

Brilliant news. So well deserved.

He's the type of person who deserves recognition rather than sportspeople and celebrities.

WannabeHealthier · 14/06/2024 23:38

So chuffed at this news. Provides others fighting their own David v Goliath battles with hope!

Also congratulations to Tracy Emin, well deserved - she’s had a tough few years with cancer (and lasting physical damage) so pleased for her as she seems a lovely person also true to her roots.

LightSpeeds · 14/06/2024 23:47

😀

MrsAvocet · 14/06/2024 23:54

Yes it's excellent.
I'm quite impressed with the list this year actually - there are quite a few people who I actually feel deserve their honours which often I don't think is the case.
But yes, I think that Alan Bates' honour is particularly excellent and I hope it heralds more actions to help the people he fought for.

I really don’t think it takes much astuteness. And it would have been suggested to Charles as part of a list.

Turefu · 15/06/2024 08:34

Congratulations!
Although part of me can’t help thinking it’s a bride to shut him up. Now is one of “Sirs”, establishment, will he keep on fighting other “Sirs”? I hope so. Also , giving title is easy, giving money back , pay fair compensation and put responsible „Sirs” to jail much harder. Good luck.

I agree.
I'm glad we don't have an honours system in Ireland.
It would be so open to political interference etc.

CurlewKate · 15/06/2024 08:54

Not wanting to come over all Republican-but the Monarch doesn't actually choose the people put forward for honours. They can-and have on rare occasions-vetoed.

Let's hope they get on with paying the compensation.
