It it so so so sore.

I struggle to eat and I catch it when I talk.

Been having an incredibly stressful time lately and have a few in my mouth, but this one wins the award for the worst.

What the hell can I do with it? Bonjela is so painful when it goes on I could scream.

Ps. Yes, my whole lip is swollen because of it

I remember having one that bad in my late teens, and it was actually impetigo, not an ulcer. Saltwater rinses will help with oral hygiene around it, as it needs to stay clean. See the pharmacist for something better than Bonjela.

comedycentral · 14/06/2024 22:44

Corsodyl is also really good if you have it in the house, but don't use it excessively as it can stain your teeth. I hope you feel better soon.

Greengagesnfennel · 14/06/2024 22:44

Ahhh that looks so sore. I feel for you. I suggest the Bonjela complete filmogel that you have to put on with a spatula. Hurts like hell when you put it on but it forms a protective layer over it. I’ve never had cold sores though. Could it be a cold sore? Maybe try some acyclovir cream as well just in case?

AuditAngel · 14/06/2024 22:48

Are you sure it is an ulcer? It looks like a cold sore as it looks like blisters

AuditAngel · 14/06/2024 22:49

if it might be a cold sore try aciclovir, and if you don’t have that, try ice to reduce the swelling

Pigeonqueen · 14/06/2024 22:51

I think you actually need that checked as it doesn’t look like a typical ulcer. (I say that as someone who is under 2 oral specialist at the hospital for oral licen planus, invasive Candida and recurrent ulcers).

cherryassam · 14/06/2024 22:52

DH gets horrendous ulcers and swears by these: Boots ulcer pastilles
Anbesol adult gel

The gel does sting initially but if you can bear it, it does then actually numb it

Whoknowswhatanymore · 14/06/2024 22:52

I agree that I don’t think it’s an ulcer….ulcers appear in the mouth, not on the lip. I’d go to a pharmacist and ask for advice for a cold sore.

soshelpsos · 14/06/2024 22:53

Thank you 😊 I'm pretty sure it's an ulcer as I've also got several in my mouth and tongue right now. I've never had a cold sore that I know of.
This is one big thing rather than little clusters like the coldsore pics I just googled 🤔

Ice is a good idea and I'll do some salt water too

I suffer from this. How do you remedy it? I can't eat certain foods or anything with any spice as it aggravates it.

Anotherparkingthread · 14/06/2024 22:55

This is absolutely cold sores. You may be newly infected as initial outbreaks can be worse.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 14/06/2024 22:56

I use Gengigel for inside my cheeks as I bite them and it helps with the soreness. I think it can be used on ulcers too.

ImFuckingPerfect · 14/06/2024 22:57

Oh that looks so sore. I’m not a medical professional but I’ve always used Difflam mouth wash if I’m a bit run down and get mouth ulcers. It works a treat and clears them up in a day or so.

IWantToBeASleepingCat · 14/06/2024 22:59

Anbesol.
Also mouth ulcers are first sign of b12 deficiency.
I used to get 20 a week on lips/ tongue/ inside mouth.
I now have weekly b12 injections ( Do it myself). Not had one since.

Chlorohexodene mouthwash (branded is corsodyl) use it twice a day but water it down a bit as it can discolour your teeth.

After every food and drink, rinse your mouth out with salt water it really helps.

If you can deal with pain put straight vodka into your mouth and swoosh it on top for as long as you can bear- it will completely numb it for a while.

If you get them a lot ask for a blood test- I suffered for years before finding out it was a b12 deficiency.

You can't see on the photo but I'm pulling my.lip down to show it. It started on my lip inside my mouth but has grown to such epic proportions it can now be seen without pulling it down.

This was it yesterday when I was trying to show my friend a photo.

I keep biting it which won't be helping

OP you need to to see your dentist. When I had a massive and really painful mouth ulcer for a few weeks it turned out I had an infection called ANUG and needed antibiotics. My dentist said it’s commonly seen in people who are stressed.

Loubelle70 · 14/06/2024 23:13

Try these....compeed cold sore patches. i had half my lip covered in sores, these stopped the catching them etc...allowed to heal.

sadmum27 · 14/06/2024 23:17

Oh wow that's a monster. I suffer badly with them and usually find it's a waiting game. Take care of yourself with rest, hydration and good nutrition so your body has the best chance of fighting it off, plus paracetamol and saltwater rinses. Ulcers are vile and make me feel so unwell when I get them, hope it clears up for you soon.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/06/2024 23:17

call in to see a pharmacist for advice in the morning.

DayIntarnishedarmour · 14/06/2024 23:23

You poor thing. I have recurring mouth ulcers . After testing for inflammatory bowel disease and other possible causes, the oral surgery dept of dental hospital prescribed dissolvable Betamathesone tablets to make into a mouthwash and use 4 times a day. This stops them in their tracks so they don’t ‘mature’ into big, agonising beasts like your one.

The pain used to go on for about 10 days and like you I could hardly eat, drink, brush my teeth etc and even to talk and kept biting them which made things worse

. I wonder if your GP can prescribe the betamethasone? You add 5/10 mls of water and keep the solution in your mouth for5/10 mins and spit it out. It’s the only thing that has really helped, as I get the wretched things at least once a week. The dental hospital also prescribe a paste called Oracort to use overnight in addition to the rinse. Only the hospital seem to be able to prescribe and dispense this though. I hope you get sorted, the pain is just horrible.

In the meantime iglu, saltwater rinses but get it checked asap in case it’s also infected.

Pwincessb · 14/06/2024 23:24

I'd pop to the pharmacist they will give good advice. Also might be worth getting your B12 tested if you are getting a lot of ulcers (especially if you are felling tired as well). Feel better soon!
