Elderly Relatives/bad relationship

If you have an elderly parent who has been in contact throughout your life but not as a caregiver and you didn’t live with them. They were around in the background, brings toxic energy and has done some extremely hurtful things. Is it still your moral responsibility to care for them as they become frail and start to need care because they are your parent?

No.

Most religions say something along the lines of honour your parents. This doesn't mean you have to personally care for them.
