How much do you pay for wraparound care? I’m panicking

Lone parent, no help, going to have to pay for wraparound care from as early as possible and late as possible. Does anyone know what this costs roughly? I have enquired at a couple of schools but they refused to discuss costs unless I was considering the school and had applied or looked round etc and I didn’t want to lie! Dc is only 3 but I am so worried about what’s to come

NW. Nice commuter suburb of one of the big cities. Private provider. Can’t pay by the hour, only flat fee for each session.

Breakfast club £6 (7:45-9am)
After school club £15 (3-6pm)

At roughly £5/h (without factoring in TFCC) it feels like a bargain compared to nursery fees which averaged to ~ £8/h, again on a flat fee for a 10.5h day.

Make sure you ask the school if they actually have free places available for new starters in wraparound care. Ours does not, and neither does the next closest school. I know three class mums who are working fewer hours than they want or are trying to work with their kids at home after school because they can't get childcare.

I managed to get a childminder and pay £5.25 per hour (3 hours after school).

Sunshinedaytoday · 09/06/2024 20:12

I pay £200 a month for 5 days before and after school. 7.30-6

SnapdragonToadflax · 09/06/2024 20:12

Check holiday clubs too. Ours only runs minimally - two weeks this summer holidays, for example. There is more choice 5+ from external providers, but sending a just turned 5 year old to a private club with no friends attending with them is a bit scary.

Chickychoccyegg · 09/06/2024 20:15

I'm a childminder, I accept tax free childcare, so you get a discount of 20%.
I charge £5 8-9, £15 (3-6)

xyzandabc · 09/06/2024 20:20

Wow, mine are all at secondary now but just looked up the prices online for the primary school they went to.

Morning from 7.30 £8.10
Afternoon until 18.00 £17.70

That seems pretty high to me.

Viewfrommyhouse · 09/06/2024 20:20

East Midlands. Breakfast club, 7.30 to 9am is £5 - breakfast is provided. After school club, 3.30 to 5.30pm is £8 - snack is provided.

Lokshen · 09/06/2024 20:26

Breakfast club 745 £5, after-school until 6pm including snacky tea £20

notmyrodeo · 09/06/2024 20:32

I'm a lone parent - I use a childminder as the school before/after school club couldn't guarantee me 5 days - I couldn't put the school down as my first choice without knowing 100% I had childcare - but the club wouldn't offer a place until school had confirmed child had got in 🤪

I pay £6 for mornings including breakfast
£12 for pick up until 6pm including snack/sandwiches/fruit - so £18 per day but they are registered with tax free childcare so that saves 20%

ThatCalmPombear · 09/06/2024 20:34

It varies so much between areas and also between schools.
At my kids' school (zone 2, London) it is £2 for breakfast club (from 8am) and there is a free after-school club for kids age 6+ until 6pm.
This means that full wraparound care for my two is £20 per week. If we went to the school over the road it would be £200 per week (£5 breakfast club, £15 after school club) which we just wouldn't be able to manage at all.

Tristar15 · 09/06/2024 20:37

My DD goes to breakfast club 5 days a week 8-9 then after school club 3.30 until 5.30 4 days a week. This month’s bill is £240. Tax free childcare makes it a bit cheaper than that.

It varies massively. Some schools have free breakfast clubs and free after school activities. Some charge £3 some a lot more!

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 09/06/2024 20:48

Devon
£7.00 after school club until 6pm.

£15 per day holiday club 9-4.

Peccary · 09/06/2024 21:02

£5 before school and £8 after 7.30-5.45, North West Derbyshire. Rates are on the school website, weird yours won't share. Is there a local FB group you can ask?

Whippetlovely · 09/06/2024 21:04

£4.50 breakfast club and £10.50 asc until 6pm , I use tax free childcare so 20% off that. It’s at the school and he has dinner there. South east

Whippetlovely · 09/06/2024 21:05

By the way you can look on the schools website if it’s at the school it will be on their policy’s and the price will be on there. It’s rather odd they won’t tell you the price never heard of that as that could be a consideration to you wanting to go there as some schools don’t have their own.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 09/06/2024 21:05

£8.50 a day (7:30-9 breakfast club £4.00 and 3:30-6pm after school club £4.50)

scotstarstrikestwo · 09/06/2024 21:12

11 and 16 respectively. Aberdeen. Privately run bear school as the school one too full

halfshutknife · 09/06/2024 21:17

We are BC £6.30. ASC £17.30. Glasgow.
It's going up next term 😩

Tweensandterribletwos · 09/06/2024 21:24

Yorkshire
breakfast club from 7:45 - £5.50
after school club until 5:30 - £11.50

gano · 09/06/2024 21:28

West Midlands - BC £3.50
ASC £10 until 6pm

Zitouna · 09/06/2024 21:37

We’re in London. Ours is £4.50 breakfast club, and £16 ASC, but that’s until 6:30 and includes a proper meal. Siblings get a reduced rate. we particularly like beciase they are flexible about last minute bookings/changes. But the offer and costs seem to vary hugely.

TheWorldKickedBack · 09/06/2024 21:49

£10 BC, £18 ASC in South East from September. Very expensive!!!

workingmumguilt · 09/06/2024 21:52

South Coast

breakfast club £4.50/day
afterschool club £12.50/day

we use tax free childcare to get it 20% cheaper

scotstars · 09/06/2024 21:54

Varies greatly by location. I'm in Scotland £2 breakfast club from 8am and £10 after school care until 5.45pm.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 10/06/2024 01:32

It varies so much between schools. We are in the NW and for DC breakfast club is £8.95 drop off from 7:30, after school club is £12.95 until 5:45pm. This is run by an external provider on school premises. My DNephews school same town is £7 breakfast club and free after school club until 6, this is run by the school but you cannot reliably book 5 days, it depends on demand per half term. Usually she can only book 1-2 days per week and not the same days each term.
