How much do you pay for wraparound care? I’m panicking

moniiiworries · 09/06/2024 18:04

Lone parent, no help, going to have to pay for wraparound care from as early as possible and late as possible. Does anyone know what this costs roughly? I have enquired at a couple of schools but they refused to discuss costs unless I was considering the school and had applied or looked round etc and I didn’t want to lie! Dc is only 3 but I am so worried about what’s to come

School I work in (Lancashire) it is £3 for breakfast club (from 8) and £6 for two hours after school club (to 5.15)

DreadPirateRobots · 09/06/2024 18:20

West London. Breakfast club £6, after-school until 6pm £16.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 09/06/2024 18:22

Have you tried asking on a local Facebook group?

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 09/06/2024 18:23

You'd be better to post on a local parents' Facebook page for the costs for your area. Have you checked a benefits calculator to see if you might get anything towards your childcare costs?

Invisimamma · 09/06/2024 18:23

£6 for breakfast club 8am-9am. £12 for after school until 6pm.

But you need to be on the list from birth here or you are not getting a space! The waiting list is 5yrs long for everyday except Friday.

HippeePrincess · 09/06/2024 18:25

Midlands 4.50 bc from 8am, teatime 9.50 til 5.45, local schools round here publish this on the website.

Boofips · 09/06/2024 18:25

N.E.Lincs
Breakfast club £5.25 (7:30am open)
After-school club £9.50 (closes at 5:45pm)
As you're a lone parent you may be able to claim 85% of childcare costs back through universal credit. If not available to you then use Tax Free Childcare account.

And people say, ‘your prices go down when they start school’

Some of these would be £400 a month! How do people do it? Especially if you’ve then got a younger one in full time nursery

Because full time nursery would be £70 a day and I'm only £18 for wraparound. Significant difference.

20% tax free childcare discount.

If there's two working parents that's less than £9 a day each.

sonypony · 09/06/2024 18:26

Ours is £8 morning from 7:30 and £13 afternoon till 6. That includes breakfast and a hot dinner.

CatamaranViper · 09/06/2024 18:27

Northumberland here and ours is £2.50 from 7.50am. £4 if they stay until 4pm at ASC or £7.50 if they stay until 5.30pm.

We used to use a childminder who was 7.30am until 6pm. She dropped off and picked up at our school too so was much easier to fit in around work

idontknowaboutyou · 09/06/2024 18:27

South Yorkshire £7 for 7-9 and £9 for 330-6. Term time only though. And you have to re book on every term.

I use a local private nursery for wrap around. It's same times but £5 for breakfast and £7 for after school. £36 for full day in hols. No obligation to do holidays. They offer 0-11 years

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/06/2024 18:28

What hours do you need. The school my dd went to wasn't suitable for wraparound as the hours were too short, I had to use a childminder to get the times I needed

FlyingSoap · 09/06/2024 18:28

Still a lot though isn’t it! I bet lots of parents with little ones don’t know how much wraparound care will cost

sonypony · 09/06/2024 18:29

Do you know anyone who has a child at one of the local schools or knows someone who does? Or you could ask on a local Facebook group. Seems a bit odd they won't tell you or have it on their websites.

Mammyloveswine · 09/06/2024 18:29

My school has free breakfast club and after school club is £3.50 until 5pm

ChangedForThisAgain · 09/06/2024 18:30

East of England here (but commutable to London): £5 for breakfast club, and £5 per hour of after school care, up to 3 hours.

ShotgunSally · 09/06/2024 18:31

I used breakfast club - free and cm after school plus holidays/ inset days, £5 pH. As a single parent I found cm more flexible as holiday clubs were often 10 - 4, worth checking out holiday cover if you will need it.

Blacknosugarplease · 09/06/2024 18:32

Manchester
AM - school start: £7
PM- until 6: 9.50
tax free so minus 20%

gojumpjump · 09/06/2024 18:33

6.50 BC £9.50 ASC

CelesteCunningham · 09/06/2024 18:33

NI.

Breakfast club with no breakfast, from 8am: £1

After school club, both til 6pm, either:

School after school club, provide own snack, £18
Private after school club run by midday: pickup, hot meal, £30.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/06/2024 18:35

It will be on the school website if you look in the menu under extended hours or whatever they call it.

In my son's school in east London it costs £4 for breakfast club (from 8am) and £9 for teatime club (until 6pm).

GetUpStandUp4 · 09/06/2024 18:09

South east. about £20 a day for breakfast club and aftershool until 6 I think. split about 6/14.

Ours is this too. London based.

StrawberryPavlova · 09/06/2024 18:38

Our childminder is £5.20 an hour, so £7.70 for breakfast and school drop off, and £10.40 for two hours after school, including a light tea. The local before/after school club (not run by school) is a similar price.

Shelby2010 · 09/06/2024 18:44

The other thing to remember is that not all schools have wrap around care & there may also be a waiting list.

Check when the waiting list opens, ours you could put their name down a year before they started. Another local school you could only put their name down after the school allocation had been released. My friend was waiting at midnight for her son’s school to confirmed so she could get the form submitted.

There is a government initiative to improve wrap around care but who knows what that will look like on a local level.

Shinyandnew1 · 09/06/2024 18:46

Choose your school carefully. Some don’t have wraparound care or have breakfast club but it doesn’t start till 8, but no after school care.

What hours will you need, @moniiiworries ?
