Do you do skincare?

In my early 30's and I don't do any skincare, wash my face daily but that's it. Do you do skincare? Should I be doing it now? Aibu to think I don't need to start a skincare routine and surely it's not as common as I'm led to believe?

If I'm wrong, where do I start?

I didn't do any skincare in my thirties, aside from washing my face with water and moisturising occasionally. I'm 45 now and I don't think it did me any harm, my skin doesn't appear to have aged more than anyone else's! But now in my mid forties, I "have" to do skincare - by which I mean I look noticeably a lot worse without it. I use Clarins cleanser, moisturiser, eye cream and night cream. Without it make up just looks awful on, and I have very crusty looking skin 🤢 and obvious wrinkles. The good news is I still look pretty good if I do my skincare routine, eat well and sleep well! 44 was when it changed for me.

Whether most people do or not is irrelevant. When two people are 50 (often younger), you can tell who had a routine so you choose which one you want to be.

I have a simple routine of wash, moisturise, sunscreen in the morning and wash & moisturise in the evening. A glycolic peel from a tube a few times a week.

Inexpensive, high concentration products which I use as needed e.g niancinamide, retinol, collagen etc. I'm early 40s and no lines. Stopped smoking and started using sunscreen at 20 (one of those kids whose parents never used suncream 🙄) so any positive changes help.

And it's not just about having to. It literally only benefits you so choosing nice products that you look forward to using is a nice thing for yourself. It's why I only buy really nice things. Not always expensive things but nice things.

I use le Roche posay spf every day wind, rain or shine. (I have roseacea so have to but I’ve noticed more beauty bloggers doing it daily anyhoo!)

I wash with Cetaphil gentle cleanser, then use avene/ cerave moisturiser, then spf, then primer (Aimee Connolly), then clarins bb cream then mac spray fx. Oh and cerave eye cream. So not a lot of skincare but enough iykwim (night Cetaphil, then a night moisuriser- haven’t found a holy grail yet- plus cerave eye).

ps I’m 43 with good skin, my skin is too sensitive for acids and I’m not really bothered anyway, I like the feeling of comfort more than tight and new if you know what I mean!!)

Here is my routine that I follow:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

I use Tret and Nivea and sunscreen. Nothing else. V happy with my skin. All else is hogwash anyway.

Opalfleur2025 · 05/08/2024 16:45

I used to but not really now.

I remove my makeup with cleansing oil or balm. I apply a hydrating essence after I shower and when I wake up as well as a facial oil/ serum when i feel dry.

Apply the Ordinary 30% aha peel on my spots if I get them. I wear spf 50 bb cream daily.

I do not, my mum buys me skincare stuff for Christmas and I use it when I remember but have no set routine other than washing my face and using sun cream if I'm going to be outside during the day.
I honestly was glad that I didn't have a 10 step skincare routine when I had a baby and the majority of my free time went out the window. I could do toner/moisturiser/eye cream etc before bed but most of the time I just want to wash my face, brush my teeth and fall into bed!
Also in my early 30s btw and look my age. My mum looks good for her age and I think a certain amount of it comes down to genetics, despite my mum insisting its her expensive moisturiser lol

I certainly do! Vit C serum and moisturiser every day with one or other of the lastest miracle products slapped on for good measure. Retinol, eye cream and night cream every night locked in with a layer of coconut oil. I didn't even get started until I was nearly 50 though and have sunbathed, eaten junk and generally not looked after myself at all until them. Delighted to report that my skin is in lovely condition, I never wear make up even, except mascara, and I find the self indulgent faffery book ends my day in a very calm and relaxing way.

I'm 34 and luckily have good, young looking skin genetically.
I'm very skincare focused and have been for about 10 years.
I wash my face with gentle products (mainly MooGoo milk wash which is brilliant and one of the most non-stripping ones available), my main facial moisturiser is also MooGoo called 'Full cream moisturiser' and I add a bit of rosehip oil to that mixed in with that.
I wish I'd known about these products beforehand, because I had a face full of cystic acne that I had NHS roaccutane prescription for. It might not have taken away the acne, but it would have made it less sore.
I use lanolin cream habitually underneath my eyes because it's meant to be very hydrating.
I have balms and oils that I also apply that have beeswax and comfrey and all sorts in.

FeelingUnsure99 · 05/08/2024 18:52

I wash my face with Simple face wash and moisturise with a high spf moisturiser for sensitive skin and use a separate eye gel (also Simple atm as it happens - it is lovely and cooling and good for insomnia induced puffiness). I wash my face to get it clean (obviously) and moisturise to protect my face from the sun and also to make it feel comfortable, not tight and dry.

But that's it - no serums (whatever they are), night cream, acid toners, any of that old nonsense, honestly they are a waste of money!

raffegiraffe · 05/08/2024 19:00

Yes.
Morning
Vit c serum
Moisturiser with spf
BB cream with high SPF

Evening
Ceramide face wash
Rosehip oil or a hyaluronic acid serum
Tret

Once or twice a week a glycolic acid toner.

I had terrible skin and it's much better, never had compliments til I started tret. Its faded a big age spot which I was so pleased about. I tried all the usual faders with no success at all
