50k. Life changing? Helpful? Bit extra savings? What would it actually mean to you?

I wouldn’t turn it down but it wouldn’t be life changing, it would go towards planned works so I don’t have to totally empty savings.

FourEyesGood · 07/06/2024 19:28

We would be able to finish paying off the mortgage and then go on an amazing holiday, the likes of which we will never actually be able to afford.

CountFucula · 07/06/2024 19:29

I’d be grateful but it is a tenth of what we owe…

Londonscallingme · 07/06/2024 19:29

Not life changing but obviously 50k is always helpful!

DustyMaiden · 07/06/2024 19:29

Nice treat, not life changing. If you’re young and not on housing ladder it could be life changing.

distinctpossibility · 07/06/2024 19:30

It would be amazing but not life changing in the long-term. Would pay off half the mortgage which would free up money for nice things.

Bextespisod · 07/06/2024 19:30

I don’t see this as a huge sum really. But when I actually think about that it’s crazy isn’t it? 50k… it’s loads in some ways but in other ways it’s peanuts as one fancy car and one luxury holiday and it would be gone

TulipsAndZombies · 07/06/2024 19:31

Very pleasantly helpful but not life changing. I think £100k might be more in that category.

Devilsmommy · 07/06/2024 19:31

Don't have a mortgage, live in social housing so this would be an amazing gift in my position

TulipsAndZombies · 07/06/2024 19:31

Nah I could make that stretch to way more luxury holidays than just 1!

WhenSunnyGetsBlue · 07/06/2024 19:32

Very helpful, if not life changing. I would be able to finish my degree which is currently on pause due to finances and get on the property ladder.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowItHaveAGin · 07/06/2024 19:32

It would absolutely change my life.

I would actually only need a 10k of that for it to be life changing.

LilianaVikavanovich · 07/06/2024 19:32

I’d be delighted to receive that amount of money l

not life changing , as we’ve paid off the mortgage and retired ( yes , I know I’m lucky )
wed definitely get the new windows we want and go on a few nice holidays

Panicmode1 · 07/06/2024 19:32

I was gifted £50k by my parents.when.my grandparents died - it paid for a kitchen extension, which changed the way we live in the house, but we still have a large mortgage and 4 children to get through uni, so it hasn't made a huge difference financially..

purpleme12 · 07/06/2024 19:32

Erm yes I definitely think it's life changing!
It would pay most of the mortgage off and make a massive difference!

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 07/06/2024 19:32

50k is a huge amount to me, it would clear my mortgage and mean that I could retire early.

AfterDinnerIDrinkASoda · 07/06/2024 19:33

I think I'd splurge most of it, although it would depend on who gave it to me.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 07/06/2024 19:33

Not life changing but I would be incredibly delighted and grateful. If it had been before I bought my house it would have been life changing. Now it would be just really helpful. Would probably keep it as a safety net though as savings wiped out when buying house a few years ago.

Jifmicroliquid · 07/06/2024 19:33

It would be life changing for me.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 07/06/2024 19:34

Or pay off some off some of the mortgage and then reduce monthly
payments.

SmallGreatThings1 · 07/06/2024 19:34

Completely life changing for me.

VanLife33 · 07/06/2024 19:36

And me @SmallGreatThings1 🙂

haerneen · 07/06/2024 19:37

Not life changing. It would be nice but it wouldn't make a difference to anything we could do.

APurpleSquirrel · 07/06/2024 19:37

With £50k we could pay off our debts (not mortgage) which would free up more monthly income to save for holidays, savings, pension etc.
with what's left it would pay a nice chunk off our mortgage (about a 3rd) again freeing up more monthly income.
So yes, it would be life changing for us.

Jellykat · 07/06/2024 19:39

Absolutely life changing!
