What’s your fav low calories meal that doesn’t feel like a diet?

I think we all have a meal or two which we think is far too tasty for how few calories it is. I’m not talking about a salad or soup that hits the spot but a meal which you genuinely enjoy despite it being low-ish on calories. Ie you don’t feel restrictive when eating.

Mine is roasted chicken with some rub on the skin with olive oil, a sweet potato and garlicky broccolini. And a dollop of Nando’s sauce on the side.

Or chicken and prawns stir fry with Chinese cucumbers (a la tik tok).

There is also chilli but made with chicken mince that I have with a small serving of rice. Gorgeous. Nice with a sweet potato/ regular potato also.

What are you nice, but just so happen to be healthy meals?

Egg stir fry

Onion, pepper, courgette (or whatever veg available) >100 cal
Chinese five spice, soy sauce, chilies sugar and water or a squish of low sugar sweet chili > 50 cal
Ready to cook udon = 190 cal
2 boiled eggs as the protein = 160 cal

Makes a massive, spicy, tasty plate of food for 500 cals. Only takes 10 minutes.

Hairy dieters beef madras. Delicious, and doesn't taste like low calorie food. Just don't have lisds of rice with it!
Serves 4
4 long red chillies
800g braising steak (or other good quality beef, trimmed of all fat)
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 tsp medium curry powder
400g chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 tsp sugar
500ml beef stock made with one stock cube (the recipe calls for 750ml but I think it was too much)

Heat the oven to 150c. Finely chop 2 chillies, split the other two down the middle but don't deseed them. Heat a large flameproof casserole and add 1 tbsp oil. Fry the onion, garlic, chilli for about a minute. Stir in the curry powder then the tinned tomatoes and tomato puree.

Cook for about 5 mins until the liquid starts to evaporate. Add the beef , whole chillies, salt and sugar and cook for a couple of minutes - stirring constantly - until the beef is browned and covered in the tomato mixture.

Pour over the stock and bring to a simmer, stirring. Cover the dish and put in the oven. Check after an hour. Cooking time will be around 2 hours. If the liquid is still a little thin, put the pan on the stove top and cook, stirring constantly

I love soft poached eggs and poached smoked fish (basa or haddock) with something on the side (steamed cauliflower or butter beans). The runny egg yolk makes an amazing sauce.

I use shredded cabbage instead of noodles to make a salmon stir fry - salmon fillet with tandoori spice, red pepper and onion - natural yoghurt added at the end. Healthy and delicious (if you like cabbage).

Butternut and spinach Dahl with lots of coriander. I use half fat coconut milk. Lovely 🥰

That's a good idea, I do like cabbage!

Poached salmon and mash and carrots

Fillet steak or smash burgers with 5% mince. Usually with potatoes 'fried' in the air fryer and a big chopped salad. Just as long as you don't drown the steak in butter!

Cut it really fine and just Blanche for a few minutes before adding to the stir fry - amazing.
