To ask if you will actually vote?

Not asking who you're voting for, but are you actually going to make the effort of voting (by going to the polling station on the day or postal vote)?

Am on the app so voting options don't seem to be available.

I will go to the polling station, whether I select a candidate or spoil my ballot will be determined by the party manifestos.

At the moment a spoilt ballot looks most likely. I know it will be counted but I would prefer a 'none of the above' option.

A 'none of the above' option would potentially get the most votes this GE! I've honestly never seen so many people struggling to choose a party to vote for.

And a change I've seen on here for this GE is that I've seen fewer people coming on the say that spoiled votes are a waste of time and you should actually be voting for a party. That's an interesting change, IMO.

Yes. Our polling station is difficult for me to get to due to mobility issues but I'm still going and voting. It feels more important than ever this year.

You can still get a postal vote until the end of today if it's easier for you.

I'm not UK,and the voting is today so that ship has sailed. I did have a look into proxy but couldn't see anything jump out out me and I forgot then.

I’m confused. You said in a previous post that the polling station is just down the road from you and that your husband and daughter would be voting but you can’t because you can’t go there except by taxi. Which implies you are in the UK. Now you say you’re abroad and that voting is today? Even though no voting is taking place today. Anywhere. Am I missing something?

The Irish are voting in the EU elections today (and maybe local elections too?).

TrustPenguins · 07/06/2024 09:22

Yes of course. Have always voted.
Why wouldn't I?

RandomButtons · 07/06/2024 09:23

Yes.

Other countries have taxis. Not UK.

'down the road' means nearish. In my electoral area. In my case I can barely make it down the stairs so not near enough.

BIossomtoes · 06/06/2024 21:37

Women died so I could vote, not doing so would be like spitting on their graves.

yeah it’s this really, people died and also continue to die for the right to vote, so whether i go in person or do a proxy, and whether i vote or spoil my ballot, i’ll for sure go

Alaimo · 07/06/2024 09:24

I am a Brit in the EU. I will be voting this weekend for the European Parliament elections and have requested a postal vote for the upcoming UK election.

Eviebeans · 07/06/2024 09:25

I'm not sure if I will vote and am shocked at myself for feeling this way

I’m sorry about your mobility issues. But a previous poster has explained you are talking about the Irish elections, I thought this thread was about the UK GE. My mistake.

Though I’m now not sure what you mean about there being no taxis in the UK!

If you don't fancy any of the parties, it would be useful to be counted as a spoiled vote if you can summon the energy (you could apply for a postal vote if you do it today; but less effort!). I think getting a message across that no party suits us is actually really important this time.

I meant I'm in another country, not in UK. I can see I wasn't particularly clear with that though! Yeah, we have local and euros here today. Not as exciting as GE but still!

Dis626 · 07/06/2024 09:35

100%. I always vote. Although admitedly in the last election I stood in the polling booth trying to decide where to put my cross for ages.

ElizaMulvil · 07/06/2024 09:50

Yes, I've not missed a vote in 50 years. You have to think of it as taking a bus not a taxi ie voting for the party which is moving in the general direction you want. No one is going to agree with everything a party puts in its manifesto

So eg better support for the NHS, or abolishing fire and rehire, or taking buses and trains into public control.

Not Tories for me or Lib Dems (if push comes to shove, as they will support the Tories on past evidence.)

Emmadaily · 07/06/2024 09:59

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 06/06/2024 21:32

Yep. Always. Never not voted in any election or referendum since I turned 18.

Same here
I applied for postal vote a few years ago
So just waiting for the post to arrive.

They've explicitly ruled out coalition with Cons and Reform.

I'm 61 and haven't missed voting before. The choice has usually felt easier than it does this time around
It's not due to a lack of motivation in any way but that there feels to be very little option to improve the current situation
It looks as if it may be a case of following this advice and work out what the most important issue(s) is to me and vote for who best meets that criteria if not all

Projectme · 07/06/2024 10:16

wouldn't occur to me not to vote.

freakyoldhermit · 07/06/2024 10:17

I am on holiday so have applied for a postal vote, just hope it comes in time before I go

Tessasanderson · 07/06/2024 10:18

Nope. I havent voted for the last 10-15 years. I hate them all with equal measure and i dont want any part of it. Yes i know my vote could influence things but if everyone is as bad as each other then the only way i can live with myself is to stay out of it.

SpinyNorma · 07/06/2024 10:42

I haven't bothered since the 2017 election. I am open to voting and will read all the manifestos but I haven't seen anything worth voting for so far.

There's no way on God's green earth I'll be voting Conservative though. Everything that's happened since 2016 is unforgivable.

Mathsbabe · 07/06/2024 12:53

Yes. We've always voted

FrogandTrumpet · 07/06/2024 13:19

All this spoiling the ballot paper nonsense - I’ve been at counts, trust me, no one gives a shit.

ChocolateTeapot208 · 07/06/2024 13:26

No there is no point in voting. I hate the conservatives but the only reason Labour is winning is because the conservatives are hated over what theyve done.

I would consider voting again if we had a possibility of not just being labour or conservative. The country needs to dry something different. Yes I dont get spoiling ballot paper either, wasting your time no one cares like the government dont

Whoever gets in, I will still

  • Struggle to heat in winter
  • Not afford a yearly holiday
  • Have to work long hours full time
  • Be taxed to pay for people who have children when I am single and get no help
  • See people in government make the same amount of money I will make in 10 years in like 6 months.

Look at what's happened over the last few years, PMs breaking their own rules, crashing the economy and yet they are all too rich to feel any real pain from it.
