To ask if you will actually vote?

Not asking who you're voting for, but are you actually going to make the effort of voting (by going to the polling station on the day or postal vote)?

Am on the app so voting options don't seem to be available.

I will spoil my paper. none of the parties represent me. I am especially frustrated that noone has pledged/has a plan to sort carers allowance. It's despicable to keep treating unpaid carers the way we are treated. I didn't expect change. unlike the teachers or nurses or others who feel hard done by we cannot go on strike etc. So nothing will ever change.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/06/2024 07:14

I’ll also add that iI always find voting exciting. It’s one of the few things at 56 that makes me feel like a proper grown up 😆

And there ain’t no pencil like a polling booth pencil.

Londonrach1 · 07/06/2024 07:17

Of course. Woman died so we could.

DanielGault · 07/06/2024 07:17

I'm not UK,and the voting is today so that ship has sailed. I did have a look into proxy but couldn't see anything jump out out me and I forgot then.

Me too! I can't vote for anyone but yes I will vote but will spoil the paper

Willmafrockfit · 07/06/2024 07:18

yes of course

CasperGutman · 07/06/2024 07:18

Of course I'll vote. I even voted at the pointless election we had last month, where the only position up for grabs was the Police and Crime Commissioner.

EasternStandard · 07/06/2024 07:20

Yes I always have

Please vote. You don't have to like them. Until new parties are voted in, nothing will change. Even if this election is just about destroying majorities, it's the first step towards better.

If people like you don't vote, then Labour will continue being awful in Wales.

If nothing else go spoil your ballot and write you aren’t voting as no one represents you. If everyone who felt that way did it then it would be very apparent and might get a bit more attention than poor turnout

Enko · 07/06/2024 07:26

No. My British citizenship is not yet through so not this time. (Waiting decision)
But next time I am. dh and the children all are.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/06/2024 07:29

Yes. I always vote.

Mandarinaduck · 07/06/2024 07:33

I’ll vote, and I’ll make a positive choice for one candidate - but I think that spoiling the ballot or putting in a blank ballot is fine. For me it’s the fact of thinking about it, going to the polling station and expressing your view. And ‘none of the above’ is fine if that’s what people feel.

For those who say ‘the whole system’ is rotten, what would you like in its place?

I would like a form of PR and more participatory elements such as citizens’ assemblies but until then I’ll vote in the system we have and choose among the parties we have.

TizerorFizz · 07/06/2024 07:34

I didn’t agree with militant suffragettes. They weren’t what I would have supported. So what they did over 100 years ago was down to them. I would not have supported bombing and arson but we do like to rewrite history.

Political parties are not representing my views. I cannot stand the right of the Conservative Party and my local MP suppoorted Liz Truss so clearly has poor judgement. He’s got a massive majority though. I suspect he will win.

Labour has some people I trust but they are just stating the obvious at the moment,. We all know there needs to be change but they are very light on how - exactly. I’ve just listened to an outline of how they are going to build 300,000 houses a year which was, frankly, pathetic! All of it has been tried. Apparently local people are going to decide. We all know that ends up with zero housing in some areas! So I’m concluding no one speaks for me because they cannot espouse workable ideas in detail. It’s a truly awful state of affairs.

Basically I need a postal vote and I cannot be bothered. It’s actually going to be a massive issue if we end up with a very weak opposition. We need a strong set of MPs to hold the Government to account or we get a dictatorship. We need to understand the pitfalls of landslide victories.

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 07/06/2024 07:35

Of course I’m going to vote, as should everyone. Even if it’s to spoil your ballot.

Temushopper · 07/06/2024 07:37

SoupDragon · 06/06/2024 22:40

Probably not as it is pointless in my constituency. The split is 60% Conservative, 30% Labour 10% Other. My vote genuinely doesn't matter.

What’s the voter turnout like? If it’s average to the country then if everyone who doesn’t normally vote showed up and voted for change you might just see it change.
My parents are in a seat Labour held for decades but it went to the conservatives last time round through a combination of people feeling disillusioned with the new Labour MP and opting not to vote or go to Green Party & people who didn’t usually vote/had previously voted UKIP going conservative. It wasn’t people changing Labour - Conservative that swung it. If you want a change then show up and encourage others to do the same.

If they didn't do what they did you wouldn't have a vote 🤔

Of course. I got a postal vote because I thought I might not be in the UK on polling day, though as it happens I will be. I do however think FPTP is a poor way of doing it and I think we should have a form of PR with an option for none of the above and voting should be compulsory.

CrunchyCarrot · 07/06/2024 07:52

Yes, wouldn't miss a general election!

pietut · 07/06/2024 07:55

Absolutely. Gleefully. I am a bit lazy though so I have a postal vote Grin

Boomer55 · 07/06/2024 07:55

Yes. I always vote and have done for decades.

itsgettingweird · 07/06/2024 07:56

Of course.

Whether it'll make a difference in my area safe seat I don't know.

But it's no good complaining about government if you don't use your voice when you have a say.

Even if your vote doesn't change anything it's counted - and it may show change in the stats even if not enough to affect change iyswim?

LMMuffet · 07/06/2024 08:01

DanielGault · 06/06/2024 22:38

No. I always voted, got train across country etc. Ironically I'm down the road now but can't walk. No easy way to go apart from a taxi, no money for that so won't be there. H will go and take DD. Not massively enthusiastic about any of the options though I have to say

If you can’t get to the polling station then why don’t you arrange for a postal vote? You have until 19 June to apply for one.

TizerorFizz · 07/06/2024 08:06

@DanielGault You don’t know that. There was great division between women about tactics. Bombing anything isn’t done in my name. Many women didn’t agree with violent tactics at the time either. Obviously I agree women should have the right to vote but I don’t believe in violence.

Turnout suggests the numbers on here saying they always vote is very skewed. 36% in local elections. There might be a high turnout this time but in 2019 it was 67.5% so lots of people posting here whose vote might actually count?
