Don't throw your poo bags into people's skips

Vergingontheridiculous · 06/06/2024 20:50

We're having work done on the house. The skip is outside the back door, and the wall between the back door and the house has been demolished for access. There is temporary metal fencing which clearly shows the skip is on our property.

We live along a lane which is popular with dog walkers. Today I opened the back door to take laundry out and nearly stepped in the poo bag someone had lobbed over the fence towards our skip and obviously missed.

Even if it had gone in the skip, it doesn't get emptied every week. So, as soon as something heavy (like construction materials) was placed on top of the poo bag, that's going to go everywhere, and stink. And probably make it harder to retrieve usable construction materials.

What is wrong with people? Don't put your literal shit on other people's property (oh and actually pick it up and take it home with you/put it in a designated bin regardless).

IABU: totally fine to just throw dog shit anywhere, as long as it's in a bag

IANBU: don't throw actual shit onto other people's property. Or anywhere except a bin or your own house (where you can do what you like with it)

I’m on your side op but also couldn’t get too worked up about this especially if it was bagged and you were able to remove it without mess

theres no way you’re realistically going to get vindication here so no point getting yourself angry

It's a bin calm down. I always do this when I'm on a walk it's very convenient saves me holding on to it till we get to the park

Hopefully not someone's empty bin. Many household bins aren't emptied for 2 weeks and if your poo bag splits under the weight of householders general rubbish there's a chance that your dogs shit is going to be stuck to the bottom of the bin.

You chose to have a dog, take your dogs shit home with you.

god this is grim.

I have dog. I judge you. Self entitled people who think the world exists for just you. never give anything back or contribute because you don't understand the meaning of community or society.

yuck.

TheM55 · 07/06/2024 01:17

I live on the coast, no dogs myself, but like them. Plenty of council bins, tons of dog walkers. But we do get people walking onto our drive and lobbing bags of dog waste in our bin. It is worse on bin day when they are out. I don't like it, and think they are pretty entitled to do that, but it is preferable to them leaving it on the path. I once went out of my house to get in my car, to find a woman doing exactly that and I asked her what she was doing (in my bin). She was massively embarrassed and offered to climb in it to get it back out. I said "look, it's fine, just leave it, the bin will be emptied soon, but we get it all of the time here and there is a dog bin over the road for future reference" I don't spend much time with, or in my bin, so I don't care THAT much, but yeah, bad behaviour around skips is bad. Not just poo bags either, I have had people stop their cars full of their crap (not actual crap) and try and load it in my skip. No. I have paid for this container to be put on my drive and taken away. Just, no.

I’m going to assume you’re just trolling for attention.

DrFoxtrot · 06/06/2024 21:48

You can't put dog shit in a skip. It is likely to be one of the things that is prohibited. OP and others have paid for their skips and random dirty bastards might end up causing an extra charge to be added! Completely selfish behaviour.

As a dog owner I wouldn’t do this but I do get why someone might think it’s ok because if you’ve never hired a skip you might not be aware. Hopefully posts like this will educate.

Auburngal · 07/06/2024 06:48

I know the British have this thing of not reading signs.. What about a nice big sign tied to the metal fence with "the skip isn't a dog poo bin"

KeeeeeepDancing · 07/06/2024 07:04

Most skip contents now get recycled not put in landfill. I didn't know this til we had a skip.
I was similarly outraged when a dog walker put a poo bag in our skip.
Put a sign up saying not for dog poo?

mondaytosunday · 07/06/2024 07:55

Yuck. I have two dogs and would never put my dogs waste into someone's personal skip or bin. Or a business owned one. Unless it's a public bin the stuff comes home with me and is put in my bin.
@whyhavetheygotsomany that is disgusting.
@Anxiousheartbeat no you do not put it in another's bin even if out on bin day.
@coldcallerbaiter don't be ridiculous.
By the way any public bin (unless labelled for recycling) is ok for dog waste. It does not have to be a designated red bin.

It’s not a bin and more specifically it’s not a public bin it’s on private property. Most skips are sorted for recycling, think of the poor people having to sort through and there’s bags of (probably) split poo bags. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and so entitled, and I’m a dog owner and would be never do that.

BeansOnToast32 · 07/06/2024 08:25

I would never put my dog's poo in anyone's bin/skip, I don't even put it in my own bin so I certainly wouldn't put it in anyone else's.

I'm fortunate to live in an area where there are lots of poo bins, my dog usually has one poo on the garden first thing in a morning before her walk so I bag it up and take it to a poo bin when I go we go for our walk.

tiger2691 · 07/06/2024 08:39

No skip available so they leave it on top of my dustbin, in my dustbin but it's not unknown that they let their dog shit on the pavement or at the top of my steps, even underneath my motorcycle cover.

No it really isn't a 'bin' - a skip can stay outside a property for days or weeks (yes, the same one) much longer than a green/black/blue wheelie bin would be.

Take your dog's waste with you and put it into an actual bin at the park. You got the dog - this is one of the things that comes with dog ownership.

Oh and telling people to 'calm down' is immediately going to get their heckles up too!

Magnastorm · 07/06/2024 09:45

A skip is different to a bin. I don't really mind if someone sticks some bagged up dog poo in my normal bin - i'd rather they didn't, but if they do I don't really care that much.

A skip though is usually for building materials that are to be recycled - sometimes for cash. Having them stink and covered in shit is not therefore welcomed.

LostFuse · 07/06/2024 10:34

I doubt the people who did this will read this thread - isn't that who you should be aiming your disgust at?
Posting it on here is even less use than posting it on your local Facebook.

CrispieCake · 07/06/2024 12:20

YANBU. If I wanted dog shit on my property, I'd get a dog.

And what if the bag leaks or something. As a non-dog owner, you're not looking out for it so wouldn't necessarily know what it was and wouldn't be taking precautions like wearing gloves.

That said, the people who don't bother picking it up and leave it around for small children to step in and scoot and bike through are worse. Scum of the earth. The bin thing, I'd just rank as bloody inconsiderate.

mimblewimble · 07/06/2024 12:56

We had this during a heatwave, made our whole front garden stink as well as being disgusting as we needed to get in the skip and move stuff around to fit it in etc. The culprit was picked up by next door's doorbell camera - same guy every day. I put a sign on the skip saying it was grim and we knew who they were... Stopped after that.

I live 5 min walk from McDs and during the first lockdown when they were fully closed, I on my first walk after getting Covid and saw a man walking past McDs with his dog and popped a dog poo bag in one of the McDs bins! Yet a council bin opposite!

Those McD bins didn’t get emptied until they reopened the drive thrus. So that poo was festering in that bin for 2 months plus. Yet council bins 2-3 days

I used to work for McDonald's and part of my job was emptying the car park bins.

It was utterly, utterly vile at times - dog shit, shitty nappies just chucked in, used pads/tampons, broken glass.

It all had to be compacted in the biffa bins and the stench sometimes was terrible!

I’ve got two dogs, the largest is a 40kg greyhound cross. Sometimes I run with him and when he does a poo, I pick it up in a poo bag. Obviously I can’t run, holding a poo bag so it goes in my fucking pocket until I get to a proper bin or home.

Yes, it’s completely gross but that’s the shit that comes with dog ownership.

take your crap home and stop expecting other peoples bins/skips to be there for your convenience

Auburngal · 07/06/2024 14:29

Another thing re dog shit. If the dog poo bins are overflowing, don’t add to it. Take it to another bin!

There’s a dog poo bin between my home and parents. About 80% of the time this bin is overflowing with at least 6 bags on the lid and same again on the ground below.

I Report this on the Love Clean Streets app. Great app to report fly tipping, dead animals (badgers, foxes) etc

SnowFrogJelly · 07/06/2024 14:32

Some people put them in my black bin when it's out in the road waiting to be emptied

Crunchymum · 07/06/2024 14:38

Someone once walked up my path and put a bag of dog shit in my wheelie bin.

I was actually walking behind her, challenged her and made her take it out. Fucking cheeky mare.

Put your filthy dog shit in proper bins people.

Although the amount of dog shit on the pavement on my road alone makes me wish people bothered enough to even use someone else's skip / private bin.

It’s not a bin! It doesn’t go to landfill. It gets sorted through by actual people who recycle as much of the contents as possible. Throwing dog shit in is disgusting and likely to make the contents unrecyclable.
