Don't throw your poo bags into people's skips

We're having work done on the house. The skip is outside the back door, and the wall between the back door and the house has been demolished for access. There is temporary metal fencing which clearly shows the skip is on our property.

We live along a lane which is popular with dog walkers. Today I opened the back door to take laundry out and nearly stepped in the poo bag someone had lobbed over the fence towards our skip and obviously missed.

Even if it had gone in the skip, it doesn't get emptied every week. So, as soon as something heavy (like construction materials) was placed on top of the poo bag, that's going to go everywhere, and stink. And probably make it harder to retrieve usable construction materials.

What is wrong with people? Don't put your literal shit on other people's property (oh and actually pick it up and take it home with you/put it in a designated bin regardless).

IABU: totally fine to just throw dog shit anywhere, as long as it's in a bag

IANBU: don't throw actual shit onto other people's property. Or anywhere except a bin or your own house (where you can do what you like with it)

Absolutely disgusting. About as disgusting as the vile dog owners who hang bags of dog shit off the shrubs in my front garden, my garden has a path running alongside. There's even a public bin 30 seconds walk away. Yet another reason for me to despise dogs, or rather dogs that have dreadful owners.

Anxiousheartbeat · 06/06/2024 21:08

With a skip it’s not ok - but I do sometimes wonder when it’s bin day and wheelie bins are out if it would be ok, I just haven’t dared in case it’s rude. On the other hand, I would have 0 issue in someone putting their dog poo bag in my bin 🤷🏻‍♀️

Humans don't poo in the street though

No, but I do have a child in nappies and I'm not putting those in the skip for... obvious reasons to anyone but you.

It's not a bin.

And even if it was, it's not your bin.

You want a dog, deal with it's shit in a way that doesn't negatively impact the rest of society.

I live 5 min walk from McDs and during the first lockdown when they were fully closed, I on my first walk after getting Covid and saw a man walking past McDs with his dog and popped a dog poo bag in one of the McDs bins! Yet a council bin opposite!

Those McD bins didn’t get emptied until they reopened the drive thrus. So that poo was festering in that bin for 2 months plus. Yet council bins 2-3 days

Festering in a bag In a bin
Shock horror

Do you ever put your dog's shit in your own bin?

It would be perfectly reasonable to put a nappy in a bag in a skip too. Honestly this is crazy. I would never ever leave dog poo on the floor it's picked up and put in a bin. Might not be my bin but it's put in a bin...or skip

Are you the one putting dog shit in OP's skip? 😅

whyhavetheygotsomany · 06/06/2024 21:14

Yes of course I put it in my bin when I pick it up from the garden. It goes in a bag then it goes in the OUTSIDE bin till rubbish day.

No, it wouldn't, the contents are sorted by actual people, they don't need random shits to deal with.

KayDog · 06/06/2024 21:15

Our builders used a big tarp type thing to cover it, it was sort of a deterrent really. It was a bit of extra hassle to cover at the end of the day but it looked sealed up so people didn't put anything in it or on it. It did work as they would have had to really burrow under it to get anything in there! I think they used thick string/rope to tie it down.

And I totally agree, it's awful behaviour!

CJ0374 · 06/06/2024 21:17

Having spent nearly 3 yrs renovating and multiple skips OP, I understand! Am I correct that your skip is contained inside your back garden with a fence separating people from it, and people are lobbing it over your fence???
Ours was at the front of the property, next to a massive bramble hedge. Every day I'd find poo bags hanging from bramble thorns where people had thrown the shit bags and missed.
I bought cheap, fake cameras from ebay which had a flashing red light and added a CCTV sign. Also one that said 'SMILE, you are on camera' and the poo bags stopped!

That's a lot of bother to keep out a poo bag.

Yes, but while there are selfish twats out there chucking poo bags at skips, it seems necessary. Can you think of another solution? Maybe one which involves taking your actual shit home?

KayDog · 06/06/2024 21:21

@whyhavetheygotsomany
The builders did it, not me..it was part of the service.
And I'm glad they did, as it saved some poor soul clearing the skip the job of sorting actual shit from the rubble

Vile!! Imagine the poor sods at the skip hire depot who then have to sort through it all for disposal.

Agree with a PP who said that dog owners are a different breed. One woman used to walk down our road and push her dog's poo (in a bag) down the drain..... just why would you think that was ok?? Every day she used to do it, sometimes numerous times, any time anyone challenged her she used to shout "fuck off, it all ends up in the same place" I honestly dread to think what she used to put down her toilet at home

Someone needs to explain to her how drains actually work. Unless it's a victorian drain and there's heavy rain then yes it does all end up in the same place - raw sewage in rivers and we are all OK with that aren't we? Seeing sanitary towels, condoms and loo roll hanging off the vegetation on river banks. Lovely

And it’s because of obnoxious selfish shit-dumping arseholes that people go to so much trouble.

Oh and take your dog shit home next time FFS, I feel sorry for anyone who lives near you if this is your attitude.

Nellieinthebarn · 06/06/2024 21:23

I am a dog owner, and I consider this to be filthy behaviour. Poo should be picked up, put in a proper poo bin when available, or taken home to dispose of if it isn't. Putting poo in someone else's skip, or wheelie bin, is horrible.

RumNotRun · 06/06/2024 21:23

If you read the Terms and Conditions of skip hire you will see that animal waste is prohibited, so those of you who think it's ok cause it's just a big bin may actually cost the skip hirer money if the company charge them.

whyhavetheygotsomany · 06/06/2024 21:28

It's a bin calm down. I always do this when I'm on a walk it's very convenient saves me holding on to it till we get to the park

You know when occasionally there are threads asking people who drop litter or don’t pick up after their dog or all the other disgusting antisocial habits why they do it, and everyone says there’s no point because they’re not stupid enough to admit to it? We’ve got one!

@whyhavetheygotsomany why do you do those things, and does it bother you even a little bit that everyone else thinks it’s vile and would happily see you banned from society for it?

cfdaaeffssfg · 06/06/2024 21:31

My DF works in skip hire. I can promise you some of it still has to be sorted by hand. It's not a bin where the bag is removed without someone having to handle the contents. He tells me that dog poo bags are disgusting to remove.

CruCru · 06/06/2024 21:37

A neighbour up the road keeps posting about this on the neighbourhood Facebook page. If there are dog poo bags in it, the skip company charges him double.

whyhavetheygotsomany · 06/06/2024 21:42

You do all realise that a whole host of animals probably go rummaging through the skips at night and poo in there while they are at it don't you ? And they don't put it in a bag they just walk away !

DrFoxtrot · 06/06/2024 21:48

You can't put dog shit in a skip. It is likely to be one of the things that is prohibited. OP and others have paid for their skips and random dirty bastards might end up causing an extra charge to be added! Completely selfish behaviour.

Don't throw your poo bags into people's skips
