Desperately thirsty no matter how much I drink

For the past two weeks I’ve been so thirsty no matter how much I drink. All throughout the day I have a drink with me without fail. I’m drinking so much water but my pee is also dark, which seems strange. I’ve stopped drinking caffeine, sticking to water (and sometimes squash and lemonade alongside), as well as sports drinks for the extra electrolytes - I definitely drink more than the recommended daily water intake but nothing is working!!

I’ve also been feeling really tired and easily out of breath.

Of course I went to Google, and it says it could be diabetes - I had gestational diabetes in 2020 and am currently pre-diabetic and overweight so maybe it could be something like that?

Has anyone ever had this before? Any tips on getting rid of this if you’ve experienced it?

Go see a GP

BlondeFool · 05/06/2024 17:49

You need to see your GP ASAP.

Nonewclothes2024 · 05/06/2024 17:50

You need to see a Dr. Could be diabetes. Are you tired ? Any thrush ?

TwilightSkies · 05/06/2024 17:50

Yeah definitely get checked for diabetes as soon as you can. It’s dangerous!!

Marmite27 · 05/06/2024 17:50

You need to be checked for diabetes OP, extreme thirst is one of the symptoms.

piglet81 · 05/06/2024 17:51

GP for blood tests.

Elisheva · 05/06/2024 17:51

Sounds very much like diabetes

TheCheeseThief · 05/06/2024 17:52

Diabetes, go and get checked now.

My son was like this and was in DKA with type one.

IggyAce · 05/06/2024 17:54

Definitely need to have a blood test with your gp and it definitely sounds like diabetes. It can cause kidney damage so get checked asap.

Bigsislookingforadvice · 05/06/2024 17:55

A fairly swift drs appointment is needed I think. A colleague I worked with many years ago was diagnosed with diabetes insipidus, it's quite rare but she was drinking litres a day and a constant thirst

All the best

Shiremum40 · 05/06/2024 18:00

You need to reduce your sugar intake as much as possible until you get to see a gp. Tell the receptionist that you think you are diabetic and feeling unwell. Tell them that you have had gestational diabetes as this increases your risk of diabetes. Good luck op, hope you get sorted soon.

WhenSunnyGetsBlue · 05/06/2024 18:00

As others have said... diabetes, you need to get checked.

romany4 · 05/06/2024 18:23

Definitely sounds like diabetes.
DH was like this until he had bloods done and diagnosed.

x2boys · 05/06/2024 18:35

This does sound like diabetes and I wouldn't bother with a GP my son collapsed last year in DKA ( Diabetetc keto acidosis ) which is life threatening i don't wish to worry you a but A&E can do a quick finger prick test which will immediately show if your blood sugars are high and they can start treatment immediately.

TheShellBeach · 05/06/2024 18:36

Diabetes.
If you can't get a quick GP appt go to A and E.

Trickabrick · 05/06/2024 18:36

I wouldn’t wait for a regular GP appointment, either call 111 or head to A&E - you’ve got classic diabetes symptoms.

35965a · 05/06/2024 18:37

Please call 111

BuffaloCauliflower · 05/06/2024 18:38

Call 111, it’s actually possible to develop Type 1 diabetes at any age not just in childhood, and that’s a medical emergency

Slugsandsnailsresidehere · 05/06/2024 18:43

Sounds like you've gone from prediabetic to type 2. It can be reversable if you get back to a normal BMI

HousedInMySoul · 05/06/2024 18:46

Yy you need to go to A&E! As someone else has said, it may be, or develop into, DKA

x2boys · 05/06/2024 18:47

Well nobody can diagnose on the Internet and there are some symptons that sound more like type one ,but either way it need checking out ASAP.

Anneta · 05/06/2024 18:49

It can be really serious if your blood sugar levels go too high. This is a classic symptom. Go to A&E and get checked tonight.

Brenna24 · 05/06/2024 18:50

It absolutely could be diabetes and I would strongly recommend calling 111. Gestational diabetes is a big indicator for going on to develop diabetes. I had GD and was enrolled in a study afterwards. I knew it increased your risk of diabetes but I was shocked when I started the study and they told me the figures. If I recall roughly 60 percent of women with GD go on to develop diabetes in the next 5 years.

HumphreyCushionintheHouse · 05/06/2024 18:52

i have Sjögren’s syndrome which causes dry mouth and eye, and makes me very thirsty.

I agree that you need to see a doctor

justasking111 · 05/06/2024 18:52

Call 111.
