Do you wear nightwear?

Tired Episode 19 GIF by The Simpsons

Following on from a thread on there, it got me wondering, do you wear nightwear?

Since being an adult, I never have! My PJs are used as loungwear that i may use for transitioning between bathtime and bed

yabu - I do wear nightwear
yaNbu - I do not wear it

Yeah, usually a nightie. I find I get too sticky if I'm totally naked - sweaty bits stick to each other!

I wear PJs for the same reason. My arms and legs get sweaty and itchy if they're in direct contact with other naked skin, and I end up scratching them and causing rashes and sore skin. So PJs with full length trousers it is.

MrsToothyBitch · 06/06/2024 08:15

No. I've slept nude since 16 - rather weirdly this started at boarding school (once I had my own room). I'd only done it occasionally before then, in very hot weather but I sleep much better this way. I only wear a nightie now if I'm sharing a room with other people or if we're on holiday with my FiL - I just prefer it then for some reason. My preferred option if we're in other peoples houses but not bunking in with others is just knickers, nightie under my pillow for emergencies, which I always had at school and uni. I also only like very lightweight nightwear, I roast otherwise and it's always a nightie, never pjs, I've refused them since I was 3.

DH used to sleep fully nude but has had some sweat/blocked pore issues between his legs lately so currently puts fresh bed time boxers on but hopes this isn't a forever solution. We both sleep better nude- although he's a poor sleeper anyway. He would add a tshirt in a shared room for politeness if needed . His pj bottoms are loungewear and are his round the house wear.

We've conceded the need for me to maybe wear a nightie and him to wear boxers for a few years if we have children and to obviously cover up if they have sleepovers though. My parents are nude sleepers but I have a couple of memories of them in some nightwear from when I was very small. I'm guessing this was for convenience getting up and dealing with me if I was sick or something as I was only ever allowed to sleep in their bed with my mum if I was poorly. They reverted asap as soon as I was considered old enough! We were a fairly relaxed family wrt nudity though.

I usually wear knickers and a sleep bra. I might wear a baggy t-shirt, a slip nightie or satin pyjamas if I'm particularly cold or staying at someone else's house. DP sleeps starkers. I used to when I was younger but I've got massive knockers and I find it more comfortable to sleep in a top with a bit of support these days. And wearing a bra top without knickers just feels weird.

BigDahliaFan · 06/06/2024 10:22

Naked with a dressing gown by the bed (we have an en suite). Also just us two in the house, but even when it wasn't, still slept naked.

Though if I'm staying in a hotel on my own or in someone else's house or somewhere unfamiliar - I'll wear PJs....

GoodlifeGlow · 06/06/2024 10:25

I wear just knickers, I like to feel naked but not be naked if that makes sense!

Can you imagine being in a deep sleep and you wake to find some emergency has happened and not only that but your’e naked! 😄

This is why I wear nightwear.

Edited

My next door neighbour's house was broken into one night, during the early hours of the morning.

The burglar had obviously disturbed them and the shouting/kerfuffle woke us up, as well.

My husband goes scuttling out the front door to see what's happening, the burglar has already run away, and the front door was open.
My husband called out to Peter* and
Joanne* to see if everything was ok.
And they were both stark bollock naked.

I wear pyjamas but no underwear, I'm not keen on sleeping naked unless it's unbearably warm.

ToadofTOADhall9 · 06/06/2024 15:01

What, people wear Bras, in bed?

I dont even want to wear it at work, nevermind in bed haha

Surely it depends on time of year and temperature?

In summer I’m generally naked (well, knickers!) and in winter PJs, then in between that nighties.

If it’s very cold I may put my fluffy dressing gown on it I’m struggling to get warm and can’t sleep.

I find my feet are my temperature regulators, so if I’m cold I need to warm them up. I’ll usually wear fluffy socks to keep them warm and cannot sleep if my feet are freezing. In summer I’ll keep feet bare and put them outside the covers if I’m hot.

Definitely no one size fits all answer for this question!

DP sleeps in shorts and T shirt, or just shorts, or naked.

Chiarali · 06/06/2024 15:36

I’m amazed people are able to stay warm enough sleeping naked in England (even with a duvet). Except for the very rare summer days when it’s 30 degrees, I’d freeze and wouldn’t be able to sleep.

RampantIvy · 06/06/2024 15:38

I find pyjamas too warm and being naked too cold, so I wear a nightie - usually an oversized T-shirt style. I don't wear underwear in bed.

TheChosenTwo · 06/06/2024 15:40

No, never. I hate the feeling of sleeping in clothes, I fidget so much in bed that I would end up getting tangled up in everything. Much prefer to sleep as nature intended - no, not in a pile of leaves in a cave but in my comfortable warm bed, starkers!

zingally · 06/06/2024 16:48

In winter I wear a PJ long sleeved top, but just knickers on the bottom.
In the summer I switch to a mans XXXL t-shirt, that basically functions as a nightie, and again, knickers. If it's very hot, I'll just do a vest top.
I can't do PJ bottoms, as I don't like things around my legs at night, but I just can't do naked! I feel too cold and exposed!

qotsa · 06/06/2024 16:50

I do. My DH doesn't. I do because I sleep walk, so I wear a vest top and pants. Lucky really, as I was out on the street, in front of the house, in my sleep in them a few weeks ago. 🤦🏻‍♀️

mitogoshi · 06/06/2024 16:54

@Chiarali

In England? I've never been cold at night in a house. 4.5 tog duvet for most of the year and no heating on, even in winter overnight. I have the window open a bit. I do think some people suffer from cold whereas I'm always warm

ToadofTOADhall9 · 05/06/2024 15:09

If an emergency had happened, the last thing I would be concerned about is the emergency services seeing my jacksy hahaha

You wouldn't mind standing in front of your house, waiting for the fire engine, stark naked?! I would. Especially as neighbours come out to see what's going on!

I'm an oversized t shirt and knickers girl. I also don't want discharge over my sheets or legs. Do those who sleep naked not have an issue with this?

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 06/06/2024 16:58

Do you all have some kind of Barbie-vaginas with no discharge, ever? I don't and I could never go naked anywhere for that reason.

Haha, cross-post!

bridgetreilly · 06/06/2024 17:02

Pyjamas all the way. No knickers. Naked on very hot nights but I find that if it’s muggy and I’m sweaty, then it’s better to have pyjamas.

The thing that always makes me laugh is in films when the woman is wearing a bra in bed. Nope.

mondaytosunday · 06/06/2024 17:07

Oversized long t-shirt. Nothing else.

My Pjs are loungewear too.🙂 We sleep naked. Unless I'm ill. Then I wear pjs. Just because getting dressed and undressed is a pain when you're sick

Idontjetwashthefucker · 06/06/2024 17:11

Just pants

DeadbeatYoda · 06/06/2024 17:15

No

DeadbeatYoda · 06/06/2024 17:17

If there is an emergency, I'd just grab my robe from the door hook on the way out.
