To think staying in your pyjamas on stay at home days is minging?

A mum has just posted on one of my SM groups saying that she never gets herself or DC out of their pyjamas if they are having a day in the house. She asked if other people do the same. Loads of people have responded saying they also don't dress themselves or DC if they aren't planning on leaving the house.

AIBU to find this a bit minging? Fair enough if you're ill or as a one off, but every time you are home? Who want's to sit around all day unwashed in clothes you've had on all night? Also surely it's setting a terrible example for your children?

Maybe I'm just an old dinosaur but I think it shows a shocking lack of any standards.

Feel free to tell me I'm old and out of touch.

If Im not going out I wear pj's all day, but I don't sleep in pj's so... Not as bad.

Of course someone’s come along to blame it all on the fats 🙄 I’d rather be fat and comfortable than thin and judgmental! What a waste of your time to
be so unpleasant.

Hmm1234 · 06/06/2024 21:31

Staying indoors like that is fine but there’s some people in my area that will happily come onto the Main Street or shops in pjs and a dressing gown 😶

IrnBruLolly · 06/06/2024 21:34

It's usually always the obese, who are just waiting for a fashion designer to design the right trend.

I believe it's called a mumu. 👀

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2024 21:41

Wow @OldPerson. Just wow! I’m going to say it, are you ok? You seem, I dunno, angry. 😆

Don’t bother having a go back at me. I go to the gym 4x a week and have never even seen anyone do the school run in their pyjamas so…

mondaytosunday · 06/06/2024 21:47

My teen DD doesn't bother getting dressed on the weekends. Only on the very oddest days would I not get dressed as I have dogs for one thing, and (shockingly for MN) do answer the door!
The other Sunday other was pouring with rain and we stayed in and I wore a kaftan in the house, when it cleared up that night I took the dogs out without getting dressed- threw a long cardi over. But it was dark and was just walking around the neighbourhood.
When kids were little though I still got them dressed as it was part of the routine, but I'd also say it was a rare day we didn't go out somewhere.

FlipFlop1987 · 06/06/2024 21:49

I change twice! But more for comfort and warmth. I can’t regulate my body temp overnight so always sleep in vest and shorts, then when I get up I swap the shorts for ‘lounge wear’, usually quite thick comfy house clothes because then I’m freezing once I’m up. These are just for cup of tea and breakfast. Then I shower and dress properly.
I can’t stay in my pajamas all day, I’ve currently got Covid and feel absolutely rotten but still managed to get dressed even though it was just a tracksuit and took about half an hour.

I can only imagine some people’s washing piles changing pajamas, towels and bedding every day. Their electricity bills must be sky high!

@Iaminthefly unsure of your age so not going to comment anything ageist but….

You sound like a nauseating snob. And I’m so glad I don’t have any friends who share your views. My friends and I love PJ days and hope we can give the snobs something to snigger about to make themselves feel superior whilst we go about and enjoy our days.

If I go out then come back home, jammies on. If I stay in all day, jammies stay on. Basically if I’m in my house I’m wearing jammies. I only wear clothes to leave the house. Comfort only for me

This

Pretty sure it's the carbs, tbf. 🤣

Laurama91 · 06/06/2024 22:03

My dad used to tell me not to get dressed in school holidays if I wasn't going out to save on washing.... it kind of stuck with me

Jeannie88 · 06/06/2024 22:26

This is something I would never have dreamed of doing and never did as a child. I couldn't believe it when I visited anyone who did this, judged it as slobbish and lazy. However, since becoming a parent and very rarely having a home day at the weekend, yes I have done it sometimes! Not us, we change, but let dc stay in pjs until evening bathtime then fresh nightwear. It really is quite nice tbh not to have to change their clothes all day now and then. As I said, it's not often as we usually go out, but now I'm not adverse to it. I xx

ElizaJ74 · 06/06/2024 22:59

I have a drawer full of pj's but actually sleep naked.
I love nothing better than a designated lazy day, shower, clean pj's and an afternoon in front of the tv.
Now we're judging how people relax in the privacy of their own homes?!
And their cleanliness?!
Give over!

I don't mean to sound like a bully. I meant it more from the personal view point that I would feel sweaty, smelly and basically minging if I sat around in last nights PJs all day!

You don’t know what you’re missing 😆

@Dentistlakes i hate it when people say they are disgusting if they don’t shower everyday. You have come from a place of very high privilege to be able to afford to run the water and the electric for everyone in the house to shower everyday. It is an expensive thing for people to do. So maybe check urself before making comments like this. As that will make feel feel even worse about the fact they cannot afford it.

Maybe more than one of you can shower at the same time to save money?

Cornflakelover · 06/06/2024 23:56

If I’m staying in I will shower and put my PJs on

if I’ve been out once I get back home I change into my pjs /

I have loads of pjs and hoodie type long t shirts so whatever I put on is clean

DiduAye · 07/06/2024 00:25

YABVU firstly because it's non of your business what people do in the privacy of their own homes and secondly because you equate not putting clothes on with not washing or wearing what was slept in which probably isn't the case.

Iaminthefly · 05/06/2024 06:37

@Mrsjayy But it wasn't just one day. Some people were saying they do it multiple days. One woman said she wfh three days a week and never gets dressed when she does!

When I worked from home I would do this on multiple days but always had a shower after tea/before bed and changed PJs nightly. Also, I'd wear knickers, changed daily, with them, too. They're just clothes that are more comfortable, that's all.

Orangeandgold · 07/06/2024 02:03

I have something called “home clothes” - if I’m staying in then My PJs come off and the home clothes come on. It’s clothes that I wouldn’t wear out but 10/10 for comfort. Could be old T-shirts; old PJs; loungewear.

Im sure I’ve had days I’ve stayed in my PJs.

I don’t think it’s an issue to be in PJs all day. It doesn’t set a bad example. I think when your children become teens and they start smelling - then it’s minging.

Bowies · 07/06/2024 05:47

I don’t think it’s of concern, but agree it’s healthy to get kids outside most days unless they are ill or exhausted.

I love my PJ days (as does my lovely husband) and occasionally we PJ it for days on end, particularly during covid. We sniff each other for pit stink but otherwise, we neither care nor judge anyone’s quirks. My early 20s stepson would be 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 if he knew, my awesome 19 yo stepdaughter would probably join us 😂😂😂😂😂

I think not getting dressed for work is different to a "lazy day". I WFH but I still have to drop DD off at nursery and walk the dog etc, plus deliveries come (we don't like going out 😂). So clothes, even just "comfies" and a shower feels necessary.

A day where you're gonna sit on the sofa and watch films? PJs are fine.

Jack80 · 07/06/2024 07:46

Some people clean in pjs/lounge wear, some people will change in to clean pjs after a shower/bath for the day. I like to get dressed even if it's into some joggers and a top/hoody but each to their own. I wouldn't be saying it's minging. It's just your opinion.

chocolatemademefat · 07/06/2024 07:57

To those people who say it’s not unhygienic and they don’t smell - yes you do. There’s not a woman alive who doesn’t need a wash EVERY morning so whip off the pyjama bottoms and sort yourself out. Ugh!

Are you sticking your head down for a sniff? I know my mum was never smelly and she didn't shower daily in recent years.
