To think staying in your pyjamas on stay at home days is minging?

A mum has just posted on one of my SM groups saying that she never gets herself or DC out of their pyjamas if they are having a day in the house. She asked if other people do the same. Loads of people have responded saying they also don't dress themselves or DC if they aren't planning on leaving the house.

AIBU to find this a bit minging? Fair enough if you're ill or as a one off, but every time you are home? Who want's to sit around all day unwashed in clothes you've had on all night? Also surely it's setting a terrible example for your children?

Maybe I'm just an old dinosaur but I think it shows a shocking lack of any standards.

Feel free to tell me I'm old and out of touch.

I kind of see your point op, but to me it depends-there’s people who wear underwear with pyjamas, are they wearing the same underwear and pyjamas all day after a night in them? Plus do the kids not go outside to play? Do they not help at all with cleaning? Once off maybe ok but as you say a few days is questionable!!!

Toastjusttoast · 05/06/2024 20:34

I’m not comfortable like that either but I don’t look down on anyone who is.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/06/2024 20:46

No kids here but I love a day at home with no “proper clothes”. Long lie, have a leisurely bath in the afternoon, then put on fresh loungewear (stuff that could easily go to the corner shop or take my neighbour’s dog for a walk, joggers, sweatshirt, Birkenstock clogs). I sleep in a nightshirt which I change out of as soon as I get up.

MiniPumpkin · 05/06/2024 20:50

It’s not minging no. Lots of people have ‘pj’ days. Personally I only do it when I’m unwell, like today for example, really ill and spent all day in bed but I did have a bath and change into new pjs for tonight.
I prefer to be dressed even if staying in house as I feel like crap otherwise

🙋🏻‍♀️

I don't sleep in my PJs, i get up, wash and then put them on.

MrsB2603 · 05/06/2024 22:33

YABU, I only do this if I’m not well so a couple of times a year most likely, however I don’t judge someone for maybe having one day a week in their pyjamas if they want to, I’d hope they change into fresh underwear in the morning though and still brush their teeth! 😂

XenoBitch · 05/06/2024 22:34

How does it affect you? It doesn't. so YABU to care.

I don’t understand the people saying their normal clothes are uncomfortable. Why do you wear them then? It’s not as though we’re all being laced into corsets and wearing whale bone stays and hairy tweed. I’m wearing jeans and a tee shirt and don’t think I’d be any more comfortable in pjs. Obviously I’m not including people with illnesses and disabilities who absolutely should wear whatever is most comfortable for them.

For me it's because my normal, fit-to-wear-out clothes are either jeans or trousers like jeans - except very lightweight summer stuff, they're heavier and stiffer garments with thick seams, and I wear narrow-legged jeans. They're not uncomfortable clothes, but not things I wear to sit around at home. They're more restrictive than PJs or my at-home daywear, track pants. Top half will be a t-shirt/skivvy /shirt and jumper and same applies.

ALongHardWinter · 05/06/2024 22:41

I regularly spend a day at home in my night attire. Can't see what the problem is. I still get stuff done around the house.

Catsmere · 05/06/2024 22:52

BotterMon · 05/06/2024 17:32

Yep absolutely minging. Why would anyone stay inside all day anyway unless ill?

All the reasons stated above, plus wanting to read or knit or watch something on telly or keep my cats company, plus not being able to go anywhere without driving, so saving petrol, plus just wanting a break from being out every day!

localnotail · 05/06/2024 23:29

Don't think its gross. Think its weird getting all dressed up if you are not going anywhere.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 05/06/2024 23:32

I don't think it's minging and I don't actually care what other people do in the privacy of their own homes.

I wear pyjamas before bed and during the day, but rarely sleep in them. I just like to be comfy if I'm not intending on going out.

I do agree though that I'm much more productive if I make the effort to get washed and dressed.

MaidOfSteel · 05/06/2024 23:38

I'm disabled and don't get out of the house much. I don't think it's worth getting properly dressed on days I'm not going out. I'm clean & presentable but I'm in PJs or loungewear. What difference does that make to anyone? Why do you think you have the right to judge me?

Think about those in different situations to yourself before bandying around words like minging or depressing.

👏 well said

@Dentistlakes i hate it when people say they are disgusting if they don’t shower everyday. You have come from a place of very high privilege to be able to afford to run the water and the electric for everyone in the house to shower everyday. It is an expensive thing for people to do. So maybe check urself before making comments like this. As that will make feel feel even worse about the fact they cannot afford it.

MyDearOliveDuck · 06/06/2024 17:46

I used to do that in my twenties. Now that I am old I get into my nightclothes at about 5pm.

Jumpingthruhoops · 06/06/2024 18:10

Iaminthefly · 05/06/2024 06:37

@Mrsjayy But it wasn't just one day. Some people were saying they do it multiple days. One woman said she wfh three days a week and never gets dressed when she does!

So, if it's not for you then fine, but why the need to judge something that doesn't impact you in the slightest?

For all you know this lady might be trying to save time - and money - on washing!?

I wear sweats/joggers, no make up and hair in a messy bun when I WFH - only proper clothes, face on and hair when I need to be 'Zoom' ready 😂

I said I WFH 2/3 days a week in my pjs and I really don’t care what anyone thinks. I shower every day after work (or in my lunch break) and change my clothes (or pjs) every day.. I only wear each pair once and the days I’m in the office I’m fully showered hair washed face on and scrubbed up before 8am - it’s a balance that suits me after 35 years commuting all being full time in the office I’m enjoying taking a more relaxed approach.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 06/06/2024 18:18

I can do it for nearly a week, even better if a whole one ! They are the best weeks .Grin

I think I reached peak ming this afternoon.

Went for a run, got home, removed shorts and put on knickers and pyjama shorts. Sat and worked (in my garden office) sweating away in my running top and pj shorts for about 30 mins. Then I showered, just in time for a zoom call.

My running top is bright orange (high viz for the roads) and my pj shorts have some orange in, too, so I was coordinated.

Post run pants and pjs went in the wash.

I live on a council estate and is more the skinny ones here to be honest.

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 06/06/2024 18:28

I don’t wear my pjs as they often smell of sleep but I will wear acceptable leisurewear which are essentially leggings and a soft jumper (just upscale pjs 😂).

saffy2 · 06/06/2024 19:00

I can’t understand why anyone would ever get dressed if they werent leaving the house!!! 😂 pyjamas are comfy! We love pj days in this house ☺️👍🏼

saffy2 · 06/06/2024 19:02

However, we did all get dressed every weekday during covid. We still did pj days on the weekends and bank holidays, but was aware that not getting dressed at all was not great 😂
